Succesion Game (PG1): The mighty Germans (with edited rules)

Alright I took 10 turns but my summary is a bit short.

In my first turn I traded Atomic Theory to the Egyptians for Silks, 231g (Per Turn) and 60g. Universal Suffarge got completed a few turns after that in Berlin and that casued our Golden Age to occur in the year 1894AD! Aztec invasion of the Fukushima area countered and wiped out. Aztecs talked to us offereing Peace Treaty, they wouldnt give anything else so I had to just accept the deal with just the Peace Treaty. Berwick coverted to the English a while later and not that long after that the Aztecs attacked India causing us to declare war on them again :/ Eygpt demands Steel but I disagree and they just insult us and on my last turn the Hoover Dam got completed in Moo Point.

Heres the game.

Is the navy that's headed in the direction of Portsmouth doing anything? Send them over to Aztecland to wipe their bums out.

Sorry guys, but because the forum went down for 18 hours(!) I couldn't download and play the game. I'm afraid you'll have to wait for tomorrow, because today I don't have time! Sorry :(

Take your time :)

And Smiley I think the ship your talking about had to unload some of its Cavalry at Fukushima to defend against fair sized Aztec strike force.

I finally found the time to play my turns. Here they are. The reigh of Gumby continous :)

-----------------
1910 AD - First turn. Let's see what you all have accomplished so far. Pollution is appearing on a few places on the map. Refining has been researched. Switching to combustion. Located oil in our territory. Must get railroads to those places. I'm going to prepare an assault on the Aztecs. Let's get some military.

1912 AD - Damn, I hate pollution. I'm getting military to Semidea and stock them up there. I'll build good transports as soon as we have combustion.

1914 AD - Indians and Aztecs signed a peace treaty. Btw those workers are doing a great job. Lots of infantry ready for action this turn. Moving them all to Semidea. We'll learn those Aztecs.

1916 AD - About 5 other infantry ready for battle. Nothing important. Just 1 turn to combustion.

1918 AD - Combustion completed so switching to mass production. That'll lead us to TANKS AND MARINES. Now building transports as well. Bad news is that there's only one Aztec city left on island. Maybe i'll attack them somewhere else.

1920 AD - A few more infanrty have finisched as well as the first transport. I'm going for three full transports. After that we'll keep making infantry, artillery and transports to keep a constant wave of military.

1922 AD - I'm going to get all attack units to Far North now, because that'll be much closer for keeping those transporters coming. Next turn I'm going to get three transports full.

1924 AD - Two transports are full. The third one had too little movement points. Transporters are heading for Far North.

1926 AD - We have mass production. Going for Motor. Transport. Transporters full. I can fill up another transporter in far north.

1928 AD - History of the World tells us that we're the most advanced nation.. Whoops. I ran out of time

These were my turns.
The next few players should be able to crush the Aztecs, but I think we're gonna experience war weariness quite soon. Good luck!!

I can't play too many turns, so I've played 10:

The first thing I noticed was how bid the Babylonians got. I think we'll have to destroy them, or else they will win by conquest.

Since we already have the Hoover Dam and Hydro plants in all cities, those coal plants are just a waste of money since they don't increase the production. [/b]So, please don't rebuild them.

1928 - Massive coal plant destruction. I made some production changes and finished complete upgrade of German Army.
1930 – I sold refining to civs that didn't have it. I got 2 luxuries and money for it. Finished our Mutual Protection Pact with Indians. I started to move our fleet to Babylon. Aztecland is too far away and they seem harmless. As soon as our transports get to Babylon we'll have some Panzers to load on them, and we will start the razing period. Right of Passage with Russia plus wine in exchange of our rubber and gems.

Our strategy in a war against Babylon should be raze cities and replace with our owns. We can't haze Ninevev, Babylon and London (Great wonders). Since we're going to lose a spice source our first gold should be to secure one. Hence, we should star from Ebla and then go up to Akkad to secure ivory sources. This will be a pretty hard task because Babylon's railroad net is complete, and we'll have to secure position and attack at the same time.

1932 - Zzzz

1934 - Our Golden Age ended, and we lost one turn of research as Mot. Transp wasn't discovered as it was supposed to. Umma (with an oil source there) deposed our governor and turned to Babylon, one more reason to destroy those bastards. War is declared between Babylon and Germany. Recaptured Umma and destroyed two Babylonian Ironclads.

1936 - Mot. Trans discovered. In 2 turns we'll have about 10 panzers. Flight is next. Two Bab Cavalries destroyed near Ipswich.

1938 - As an Elite attacked Phocaea, the Great Leader Barbarossa showed his value and was immediately shipped to fight in the Babylon continent. Four Transporters are already stationed in Fukuoka preparing to invade Babylon.

1940 - India signed a MPP with Babylon. India declared war on us. Babylonian Ironclad destroyed when attacking a German destroyer. The Aztecs are mute since I started my turn. It's impossible to plant a spy in this game!!! 32 units landed near Ebla.

1942 - Six (that I could count) obsolete defensive units arrived at Ebla. Babylonian Army (2 Cavs and 1 Pikeman) destroyed by a German Elite Infantry. Destroyer became elite when it sank an Indian Galleon. Aztecs finally speak again, but they want techs for peace, so we're still on war. Our army destroyed an Indian infantry at New Delhi. Heroic Epic will be ready next turn in Berlin, and Moo Point will finish MA in 5 turns. New Delhi was captured by Cavalries (4 resistor). Artemisium captured.
Ebla Battle (razed city)
Killed: 2 infantries, 2 riflemen
Casualties: none
Captured: 5 workers, 1 cannon.
German reinforcements arrive near Hindana (8 units)

1944 - Babylonian cavalries strike, many retreat and some die. 9 units lost.
7 Babylonians Cavalries and Knights killed.
Leipzig founded.
Ganges (India) razed. 7 workers captured.
More reinforcements arrive at Babylon.

1946 - About 60 Babylonian units appear (30 of them are cavalries). Leipzig founded at Ganges previous location. Trades incense and gems to Aztecs dyes and 24gold/turn. Gave the Aztecs steel and got 22gold/turn for an alliance against the evil Babylonians. Egypt and Greece don't wanna help us (they're furious). As soon as India speaks we should try to turn them to our side.

1948 - Hidleg (or something like this) burned to the ground. Megara captured. Most Babs cavalries retreated to heal.

When we raze Eridu, we'll have that part of the Babylonian continent without borders and things we'll get easier. Build a city next to the spice source as soon as Eridu is razed. I'm not moving our troops in Babylon. It's up to next player what to do with them. Retreat, and strike directly at Eridu might be a good option. The problem is that the artilleries already moved. Keep our infantries fortified because a lot of cavalries are coming next turn. You'll play part of 1948, but you can consider it my turn. Things at the island below our continent are calm now, but India might try something there, so be careful. This was the turn I enjoyed the most, but i did a lot of mistakes, so you'll have to solve some of them. We have flight. You can start to build some functional bombardment units now.

Good Luck Morten!! You might need it.

Here are some satellite pictures of the two battlefields.

Here's the file.

What do you guys think of my turn??
It was a bit bumpy.
I think we should post some ideas to help Morten. It won't be easy to destroy the Babs, but it is doable.

Good Luck again Morten

Pggar, you've got us in a World War! And in the middle of the 20th Century? Whoever heard of such a thing? ;)

Seriously, though, what wonders do the foreigeners have? I'll understand if it's the Sistene Chapel, but if it's crap like the Oracle, then just raze the city. In one game I was playing, I captured Birmingham (England) late in the game. The city had Pyramids. I had an army of tanks (Four tanks, with the Pentagon) and the city culture flipped back. I lost a four-tank army!

Good job getting our first GL, Pggar :goodjob: , but if you put blitz-able units (like the Panzer) into an army, then you lose the blitz-ability. Oh well, too late now, I suppose.

I know, that's why I put one single panzer in it with 2 infantries. I use armies defensively, but I gave this one a little offense so it could win a battle faster. That's why we got Heroic Epic so fast. Now we're gettin battlefiel promotions every other battle.

1948 The war veteran general Wammel wins the popular election on a promise to end the war.
Once elected, Wammel forgets all his promises and immediately starts to plan the campaign.
Few years later he can harvest the first fruit of his planning. His strategy is simple.
Mass production-transport of PZ'ers and naval blockade of Babylon, effectively cutting
the enemy off from vital supplies. Round after round of german troops embark from Fukushima to Babylon, and little can Babylon resist this invasion. Wammel decides to mobilize for wartime economy, and to introduce a new concept in warfare : Blietzkrieg. Slowly, babylon cities surrender, one by one.

1952 Miletos fallen to germany, and burnt. Other cities will fall very soon.
Wammelberg founded on Babylons coast. The same year, babylonians strike back. They conquer Wammelberg and savagely burn it to the ground. Berlin builds military academy and is ordered to build another army.

1953 New Ellipi fallen and razed. Ny Wammelberg founded. Hakodate fallen and burnt. Waiting for more settlers to come up. Eridu fallen and razed.

1954 Babseby founded. Forces besieging and bombarding several babylonian strongholds.

1955 Bo Hamburger founded North of Babseby, beating an egyptian expedition to the spot. Russians declare war, unprovoked. I knew they couldn't be trusted. They pillage a couple of squares and capture a few workers. hm-hm. Nothing serious.

1956 Massive battles taking place all over Babylonian continent. Bjarneriis founded.
Telloh finally captured after prolonged battles and burnt to the ground. War declared on egypt, after repeated insults. Magnitogorsk taken from the russians, new gov'nor installed.
Babseby conquered by babylonians and burnt. Whats worse was 4 bombers lost in the attack. Bjarneriis taken by babylonians as well. I figure they lose 2/3 of all those cavalrys, but by god do they have many of them.

1957 El-Ashushmein and Pithom taken from the egyptians and new guv'nrs installed. God damn! This war is pissing me off. Babylonians take Ny Wammelberg and burns it. OK. Next player gets to take revenge. AND they take Bo Hamburger too and burns it as well. How many cavalry can they have? -Its ****ing boring, when it just sends one horde in after the other, no matter how many casualties they get. Can't they do something interesting for a change?

It's pretty hard to stabilish and secure a city in Babylonian ground. They have 62 cavalries. The good thing is that their army is split with our war and the one they're having with our allies, the Aztecs. Btw, how did you plant those spies? Everytime I tried my missions failed (the spy system is IMO the worst aspect of Civ3). Was that the reason for any of the other wars started in your turn?
It's your turn Smiley. Good Luck!

I played through four or five turns. Your bug seems to be catchy, though, Morten. I'm pretty sick. I got the Great Leaders Rictoffen (Slain before used) and some other guy (waiting in Berlin). I managed to raze a few cities. Due to war discontent, the nation went into anarchy. I started an evil plot to destroy the English nation once and for all. In exchange for Iron, Saltpeter, and Steam Power, they declared war against Russia. Since their only two cities are on our island and a Russian island, this will soon pay off when Portsmouth is taken by Russia, and we are in position to annihilate England once and for all.

Sorry to hear that. Get well soon!

The other wars had nothing to do with the spies. I had no problems planting them in particular, except with the aztecs. Russia declared war suddenly without reason. And egypt sort of got in the way when fighting babylon. It was a good opportunity to rid them AND the russians from our continent. Unfortunately my plan backfired, since the babs managed to actually take all 4 new settlements (which I did not expect after all, after the massive razings of their coastal possessions). It is amazing, since its not like those settlements were unprotected. They just kept sending their sons to their death until one finally on a long shot managed to kill off the defence. Silly, really. Pretty much what I don't like about the combat system in Civ3 -the mindless hordes of units sent to their death, one by one.

Have you guys ever seen the AI make proper use of artillery before taking a city? It makes shore bombardments often enough, and cannons are used for defence, but seldomly as an offensive 'softening' of the enemy. It seems too random to me.

Anyway, I was in the middle of destroying babylonian ressource improvements (horses, saltpeter etc) with my battleships and bombers, so it'll be a good idea to continue that mission, so at least they cannot build more cavalry. (or other gun-types). And just keep the panzers rolling. Then the war will be won, eventually.

I have the game but wont be able to play and post the summary till tomorrow night since im back at school :(

Also get better Smiley and anyone thats sick basically, does seem to be a bug going around.
