Sucession game - LK4.

I will be checking in tonight, awaiting my turn at the Throne of Domination...

seems like that is the direction we are taking.

I got no messages that anyone had started wonders except for us. I wanted to get the head start and use workers to boost production. I think we have a shot at getting the Colossus, which would really help if we need to develop colonies over seas. So, continue playing. I guess my turn will come around 200BC or so, we better have crushed the Greeks by then!

There rose to power, sometime during the 11th or 12th century B.C. in ancient Egypt, a very strange yet mighty character indeed. His name was HoHoTep, presumably named so for his… shall we say…. unique, booming laughter. With a large, white beard (very different from the black-dyed pointed versions normally sported by the Egyptians) and his twinkling eyes, HoHoTep gave the appearance as a harmless jolly man. His penchant for wearing red was well known, and it was said that his large belly shook when he laughed like a bowl full of beer – jelly had not been invented yet.

Yet, HoHoTep had a rather insane side to his character, and this led the people of Egypt to proclaim him Pharaoh. Certainly only one touched by the gods (and perhaps even a deity himself) would act in this manner.

As it turned out, HoHoTep became a ruling despotic pharaoh who was known for bringing joy to children …. As well as DREAD to his enemies.

1150 BC:
HoHoTep takes the mantle of pharaoh. His decisions are swift and sure. He sees that his people have no iron, and wishing to make a gift of this resource to his people, he sends a settler to a hill rich with the mineral. The insane side of HoHoTep has other ideas as to how to use the iron.

1125:
HoHoTep cracks the whip to give our settler a defending spearman to travel with him. Workers are building a road to connect the empire to the iron city when it is built.

1100:
Heliopolis changes production from settler to archer. HoHoTep rumbles in laughter when accused of training an offensive-style military. He then returns to his daily papyrus.

1075:
HoHoTep’s little elves – as his workers came to be known – continue the building of a road to iron while also clearing jungle and mining near older cities.

1050:
In this year, HoHoTep and the Romans decide to exchange gifts. The Romans give Egypt Horseback Riding while Egypt presents Rome with a gift of 60 gold. Caesar was heard to have muttered “Pretty lame to not have a gift and have to give cash. Surprised we didn’t get a homemade gift certificate for a backrub or something!”

1025:
Hark! the Herald Angels proclaim that in the Egyptian Empire the city of Pi-Ramesses is born. Built directly upon a hill containing iron, the Egyptians now have the means to be mean. A swordsmen corps begins training here.

1000:
HoHoTep takes stock of the world about him. The city of Pisae has been built upon the land bridge that seems to be spawning Aztecs. HoHoTep sees that he’s caught between a rock and a hard place, between the Scylla and the Charybdis, between the Tigris and Euphrates. The Romans have the look of a nation set to show its fangs, and HoHoTep decides to do what any kind Egyptian Pharaoh would do: get them FIRST!

975:
As work continues on the roads leading to Pi-Ramesses, HoHoTep addresses his people:
“My people, I have my list of Roman cities and I’m checking it twice. It would seem that only the city of Antium thus far has access to iron. Therefore, only in one small city will they be able to build their Legions. And with greater numbers of our swordsmen, we will SEE NO LEGION, HEAR NO LEGION, AND SPEAK NO LEGION. With this in mind, my fellow Egyptians, with HoHoTep in charge you will FEAR NO LEGION!

The people, impressed with the way HoHoTep referred to himself in the third person, were very happy.

950:
The road to Pi-Ramesses is now complete, and iron is available in all the cities. Swordmen are rushed with the despotic whip in Heliopolis and Memphis. For people here, the booming laughter was not so kindly received.

925:
Settlers irrigate the flood plains near Pi-Ramesses. More people = more swordsmen.

900:
An archer upon a hill verifies what HoHoTep suspected: the nearby city of Veii is defended only by spearmen. Growing excited, HoHoTep rushes swordmen in Elephantine and again in Memphis.

875:
Alexandria builds a swordman unit without rushing. The players are beginning to get into place. We need to attack before any other Roman cities get iron.

850:
Map Making is discovered, and while it seems that EVERY coastal governor wants a galley, land units are being built instead. HoHoTep sets the science elves to study Philosophy in an effort to come up with a justification for what he was about to have his soldiers do.

825:
The Aztecs are getting cheeky and Jaguar warriors are running about the land. HoHoTep wonders if THEY have iron.

800:
Our swordmen and archer are in position now. HoHoTep sees that the Greeks have no iron either. Hmmm… but those dang Hoplites can be annoying.

775:
With our army in place around Veii, and more swordmen coming, HoHoTep contacts Caesar:
“Hey Ceez, what’s going on?”
“What is it you want you red-wearin’, goofy laughin’, scraggly beard doofus?”
“Well let’s see. I’d like to go shopping. I’d like Veii, Pisae, Antium and Pompeii if you don’t mind”
“Bite me, HoHoTep!”
“Then war it is. Sorry, but my demands WERE pretty reasonable.”

750:
HoHoTep calls his troops to battle:
“Now Slasher, now Hacker, now Stabber and Ripsem. On Shooter, on Crusher, on Smasher and Hitsem. To the top of ramparts! To the top of the wall! Now dash away, crash away, smash away all!”

In fact the battle was a bit anticlimactic. Two swordmen take out the two spearmen in Veii and take the city. No losses.

Rather than keep the size 4, poorly placed city, HoHoTep razes it completely. No time to sit and quell resistors, and we have a settler at the ready anyway. It’s onto Rome now with some reinforcements on the way, then on to Antium with their rich iron deposits.

And hey, we got a few worker elves in the bargain.

730:
The two wounded swordmen head back to Pi-Ramesses for healing and possible battles elsewhere. Extras join the main group and head toward Rome. It can be seen that Rome is only defended by spearmen as well.

A LEGION is spotted out of Antium. Hmmm.. so much for the wisdom of HoHoTep.

710:
Our troops move about to draw the Legion from the hills.

The PYRAMIDS are built in Thebes! Granaries for everyone. This Ushers a GOLDEN AGE in for the industrious Egyptians. While not the BEST time in history to have one, it will certainly help our efforts.

690:
Settler ready to build when needed. It may be better to wait until the war effort is finished.

A mighty swordman takes on the Legion now that they are on equal footing, and our mighty swordman is victorious!!!!!

The city of Rome is now surrounded by 5 swordmen and an archer. It is defended by spearmen. When the troops look to see what HoHoTep is going to tell them, they can only see that he has picked up some deer from a “wild game” square and has taught them to fly him away.

And as he flew away, his troops could hear him exclaim:

“Happy Golden Age to all, and try to get horses from the Greeks soon as well!”

OK, guys. Rome is ours, but it’s up to the next person as to what to do with it. It’s in a nice spot, and the city isn’t all that large right now. However, Antium should be the main target here as that will be the ONLY city capable of producing Legions. You may wish to raze Rome and build there later. Our early cities have been good with production and growth (and now should be better with the Pyramids). Settlers can be made relatively quickly and could always fill in where needed.

On thing, though: don’t stall on this and make peace or anything. It’s imperative, I think, to reduce to the Romans if not completely to no more than one or two cities. I’d prefer them gone all together. Then maybe the a few Greek cities so we can have horses.

There is a Roman settler/spearmen team nearby. I would crush them when the opportunity is present to stop them from plunking down where Veii was (and it’ll give us two MORE workers!)

The land bridge toward the Aztecs has a great spot for a “canal” city. This may be nice for when we begin life at sea.

The Colossus is nearly complete. Most other civs went right to building the Great Library once the Pyramids were done. I don’t think that we can start the Library and have it finished before another civ does, so the next person may want to keep the Colossus building up or switch to the Library. On a different note, I didn’t even check to see, but we may be able to be the first to build the Lighthouse. This could be useful.

Honestly, we are doing pretty well on our own in tech, and we’re going to have the option of Republic probably just as we’re done claiming the Roman and possibly Greek lands. My thought is to stay with the Colossus or try the Lighthouse if available – but it’s up to HoHoTep’s successors.

Hope I can upload the game properly.

Here it is, update to follow. Kev left me in good position.

Highlights: Rome & Antium are ours, we raised Cumae, and built new city between Heliopolis and Rome. Now at War with Axtecs and what is left of the Romans. Greeks are on our side with an Alliance against Aztecs (not that they can really help).

Next person up can pretty much take out Romans if so desired. I suggest taking their capital but leaving the other 2 cities as a buffer against Aztecs. Can take their top two cities north of Antium also. At the end I started to build infrastructure. Have several temples now and Colossus. Building Lighthouse and Great Library now.

I had a Golden Era (is that right term?) my WHOLE 20 turns, began on my first turn, ended on my last. That was great. We need to get some ships now, also.

690 BC State of the Empire: 378 gold, 7 cities, seiging Rome!

670 BC Berlin completes Oracle, Glorius Battle of Rome: 2 swordsman & 1 archer reach paradise, Rome is ours!

650 BC We are tech advanced! Code of Laws is next on the way to Republic. Swordsmen regroup in Rome for attack on Antium. Road to Rome is under construction.

630 BC Roman settler killed trying to settle closer to our territory, 2 workers captured.

610 BC Whoa! Legion Spotted between Rome and Antium. PANIC spreads throughout Rome. What shall become of this?!

590 BC Roman archer attacks Rome and takes out our only Vet Swordsman. Rome is dumbfounded, how can that happen?

570 BC Jungebes builds Colossus, Lighthouse is up next.

550 BC The Roman Legion takes a route away from Rome and into the heart of our Glorious Empire. Our army of Swordsmen venture forth to Antium, we must stop any further production of Legions!

530 BC Build barracks in Heliopolis and Thebes. Our Swordsmen discover a second LEGION defending Antium. Should we sue for peace or shall be pursue conquest? The first legion is attacked approaching our heartland by 2 swordsmen. one dies, one rules supreme. Legion #1 is dead. Roman city of Cumae succumbs to one swordsman, we raize it to the ground, didnt like its location.

510 BC Antium Legion attacks our swordsmen. Miraculously it dies attacking us. All bow to AmenHotep. For the almighty one is watching over us! This is Glorius victory for Egypt and foreshadows only one thing: The Fall of Antium! Antium puts up a tough fight, we lose 3 swordsmen. Alas, we reign supreme. The Iron of Antium is ours!!!

490 BC Code of Laws discovered, on to Republic. We are at 100% science, only losing 2 gold per turn.

470 BC Great city of Giza built on wheat stalk. Temple is ordered to protect our border as the Roman capital is 3 tiles away towards the Aztec nation. Workers ordered to Antium, we must connect Antium and Rome to our empire.

450 BC Rush temple at Rome to protect our border with the Romans. there is a iron deposit between Rome and Roman Capital, we must get it!

430 BC Aztecs want philosophy, I say no. We are now at war because of my decision. Was it wise? We will find out soon.

410 BC nothing of note, kill a few roman archers and warriors. Two Aztec Jaguar warriors approach iron city of Antium...

390 BC nothing of note. Roads being built to connect all our empire.

370 BC Greeks contact Glorious Egypt. They want to trade world maps. I trade but give them 5 gold per turn in exchange for a pact against Aztec Nation. Perhaps not worth 5 gold per turn in hindsight. Hmmmm... Our People expand our Palace, the first such expansion.

350 BC the borders of Rome expand, the iron deposit between Roman and the Roman capital is ours! good move building temple at Rome. All Romans & Aztecs on our territory are now dead. Those Jaguar Warriors are pain in the butt with their 2 moves per turn.

330 BC Romans are nuetralized and Aztecs are nowhere to be seen, switch to building infrastructure. Swordsmen approaching Roman capital.

310 BC Station troops for defense of Glorious Egypt. Heavy at southern end for Roman and Aztec aggresion.

290 BC End of Golden Age. Roman capital attacked. 2 spearman die defending. not enough troops to take capital but Romans civilization is on its last breath. Next Egyptian leader can do what he wants with Romans.

State of Empire in 290 BC: 501 gold, 2 more cities conquered, 1 raized, and one built, Republic will be researched in 4 turns, large army of swordsmen, technologically advanced.

The World is Ours!!!!

Attachment: gloriousegypt.zip is 670BC :( :(

fsume93, if you can download 290 BC, I will try and get it done tonight. Sound like a very messy game. Way to much war this early.

Though I am glad to hear Jungebes builds Colossus
:)

Terribly sorry about that. Thank God for autosave as I deleted a whole bunch of files after I uploaded that last night. Of course our game was one of them.

here is the right one.

I think our war with the Aztecs is a bit of a hollow one for now. Neither the Romans or Aztecs are too much of a worry at present.

270 BC - The son of Lee takes over. He finds the kingdom a total mess. War with two other nations, but far to little military. Money will help, and we sell the greeks furs to World map, $40, $1 / turn. I sell Iron (we have 2 extra) for $3 / turn + $2. Should also keep Greece dependent on us. At the few cities they have, then are not a player at this point.

I am building the Forbidden palace in Rome.

Great lighthouse production time cut to 63 turns from 78. The city is capped until we get aqueducts, so emphasized production.

230 BC. We get beat by the Aztecs for Great Library. Not surpised. I was already planing on Monarchy for Hanging Gardens as a back up. Good news, no lost shields when I switched to library. I have almost never got GL and Pyramids.

170 BC. Foolish Aztecs. Run behind our lines to try and steal a worker. Net cost we lose 2 turns of work to kill a Warrior and Spearman. I'll take those type of trades all day :)

150 BC. - Blasted Archer from Pompeii kills a swordsman. Need to waste a few turns to get reinforcements. Attacking force was light to begin with.

10 BC - Pompeii falls! +26 gold and a worker. I start a temple to improve border lock.

10 AD - Peace in our time. We sign a peace treaty with Rome for Veii, 1 Egyptian worker, 2 Roman workers, and $75.

90 AD - Greece and Rome sign a peace treaty. Who cares
We buy a worker from Greece for $30. True peace in our time. Peace treaty with Aztecs for $163 and an updated map. REPUBLIC is here!

Wrap up.
1 - Forbidden palace in Rome will allow us a LARGE production base. Don't stop it. 2 golds hills at full revenue will do wonders for us. Can you say super science city?

2 - I upgraded all warriors to swordsman.

3 - I am trying to get 2 spearman per city. However, you may not want to go much further with this.

4 - The furs and iron deals with Greece end shortly. Cancel both, then negotiate a new fur deal.

5 - The spearman near Antium neads to reverse direction. Bad order.

6 - Get colusiems into Thebes, and maybe the other 2 nearby cities.

7 - Get Rome to declare war on us. I am already crossing borders, and issueing annoying demands. Take Neoplis and see what we can suck out of him this time for peace.

8 - The galley by Mephis is waiting for the GL to complete. If we get it, start trying to find the rest of the civs.

9 - Keep the libraries building by Greece. I don't want a blasted culture flip.

I am happy. I got my goals of the two remote Roman cities, Republic is formed. I am dying to see forbidden palace on line. #1 in science to stay once it happens.

Up next - OHwell

EDIT - Deleted old attachment

Sounds good.

Whatever you decide, please go with the Forbidden palace plan:goodjob:

I think I simplified things some. You get the challenge of getting a fleding Repulic rolling.

The O so great Lord of Hammers once again takes the throne!

130 AD- The Fur deal is renewed with Greece, 2 g per turn plus 30 gold.

230- Got construction for Philosophy from the Aztecs

270- Our legions have attacked Rome under command of a rogue commander (Me) Neapolis, the Roman stronghold, was captured in the blink of an eye!

280- 2 groups of Romans were captured, they are now slaves

310- Ravenna captured! Made peace with the romans for all their gold, 1 gold a turn, their last city other than the capitol, and their map! They are pretty much worse than a goody hut now.

330- The Aztec forces en route to Greece went through our territory, when asked to leave, they declared war!

340- The aztec forces in our territory are nearly wiped out, the majority of our swodsman are headed to Aztec lands.

350- O so great King of Egypt has fell in quicksand! His succesor carrys his burden of Egypt

- I actually wanted war with the zulu, they were really pissing me off. They also almost killed Greece, so I sihned an alliance with Greece to help them.

- The zulu are at a disadvantage, because their offence id destroyed by me, and our forces are headed towards them.

- Lead us to total domination over Zululand!!!

- whoever made all those swordsmen, THANK YOU! :goodjob:

Wow, this is quick group! The world has changed a lot since the days of HoHoTep.

I'm wondering if it might not be a decent idea to look into taking on the Greeks as well relatively soon. I seemt to recall that their cities have horses nearby, and I thought that we lacked them as well.

Looks like we won't even end up building our "Special Unit" at all. Oh, well, the Pyramids gave us our Golden Age anyway.

OhWell - I think you meant the Aztecs when you were talking about taking on Zululand. Unless I missed something...

Great job, all!

And Lee - I actually thought it better to start the war when we did. The Romans were bound to get hungry later on, and it seemed better to take them on sooner rather than later. It's tough that we started out sharing our smallish continent with 3 other civs - seems like we needed some early skirmishes to establish ourselves. Thankfully, it worked out in our favor.

It most definatley was the aztecs, trust me. But about the Greeks, we shouldnt attack them just yet, they are Gracious, and they are our allys! I think we should wait until at least we kill the aztecs. And it doesnt matter about our UU, it really sucks. Lead us to victory:goodjob:

The Roman war was perfect. Very short and sweet.

Aztecs declare war vs. us. :goodjob: Not much headache with war weariness.

Ignore Greece for now. Our only source of revenue for trade. Plus killing the Aztecs are much more important. If we get to the Aztecs, horses are at our border.

I hope Rome keeps building forbidden palace. I don't want a mess of a game like the Persian game I am in with crap for production.

Ohwell, no attachment I didn't hear a complaint, so it sounds like the Lighthouse is still on its way!

As for all the swordsmen, your welcome.

Up next - lurking

The GL is two turns away, get ready to sail that galley.

Move a spearman from Veii to Antium. NO FREE TARGETS! My bad wasn't fixed.

Connect Neapolis / Ravenna to our road network. Will help with the Aztec war.

Keep the forbidden palace building in Rome. It is getting there :goodjob:

The spearman in rome can capture the Aztec warriors. Activate it before moving It will be back before Rome is in danger.

Kill the Aztecs behind our lines before we lose all of our improvements :( The are one the verge of breaking our Iron connection! Two cities in danger!

Take the last Roman city. Worthless spot, so RAZE Pisae.

Very nervous right now. Rush build some military.

Not feel nervous, the Aztecs hav a HUGE army in our lands, I killed most of it. Dont worry! You must not have much confidence. Although the Aztecs may destroy our iron supply, we have plenty of swordman! Trust me! The Greeks have helped us by luring the Aztecs to them, and we attack the onrushing troops. They will probably not bother to pillage anyway. One of our cities was attacked, but no damage done. We can overpower them! And yes, Rome has nothing left to offer, raze them.
