I am contracted to produce a translation of 3 short stories by Poe, which should be less known.

I already chose two:

-The man that was used up
-The Sphinx

looking for a third, any suggestions? :)

Famous stories can't be used, ie none of The Black Cat, Masque of Red Death, Cask of Amontillado, Tell-tale heart (my favourite), House of Usher, Pit & the Pendulum (thank god; it is no good anyway :) ) &c.

The Murders in the Rue Morque ?

It influenced Arthur Conan Doyle in developing the logic in his Sherlock Holmes detectives.

And it is a nice story to read as a guessing game who did it,
whereby the final logic to draw the correct conclusion, is by the assumption how the witnesses were 180 degrees flawed in their logic.

That is his most famous story - i just --ironically-- forgot to mention it :D

My bad
I should have guessed that
It's just that I am so anti-celebrity, anti-authority, that I really don't care about famous or not.

Anyway, being Dutch and rebellious, how about The Devil in the Belfry ?

Is about a sabotage by the devil, completely destroying the orderly live of all the narrow minded law abiding citizens of a village (being BTW Dutch immigrants to the US :D)

Something like a big hack of the internet today laming our @ addition of today.

As a somewhat related aside, @Kyriakos are you a fan of Ambrose Bierce?

I haven't read anything by him. I keep meaning to, though. (edit, see below; i confused with with Sheridan Le Fanu, apparently :) )

edit: actually, i have read the occurrence at Owl creak bridge, i think. Or skimmed through it, but know the conclusion.

...So... any other suggestions, apart from the Devil in the Belfry? (which iirc i have read, and i am not sure about it) :D

Just need one story. Although it would be good if it can be 6000 words or a little more, and at any rate not significantly less than 5000 words :)

It has to be relatively obscure. It would make no sense to translate the famous ones again, cause publishers think they will sell more if they market the book as having obscure stories by Poe.

Another idea would be the Imp of the Perverse, but i am not particularly fond of that story, and iirc it is also a bit smaller than 5K words (3K or something?).
I'd pass on William Wilson as well.
