Suggestions and Requests

One issue with Mali collapsing around 1600 like I agree is most historical is that it would mean no West African slave trade, just "raids" by European units. Though it does seem to be the case already that Mali has very few slaves to sell in comparison to the Congo, so maybe not such a problem? It should either be the case that Mali collapses and has its cities destroyed so France can settle them or France gets a conqueror event with some middle Industrial Era tech. They should probably get one for Algeria too with an early industrial tech
I have no answer for this. The slave trade issue didn't even cross my mind. Neither Mali nor Songhai were big transatlantic slave trading empires. That said, I don't want no slave trading states in West Africa, and part of the reason why empires stayed small during the 1700s is bc the slave trade required constant warfare which encouraged fragmentation. I'm stumped. I guess just give France a conquerors event in the 1800s? Also, wouldn't hurt to give the Dutch an event in the Congo at the same time to simulate the Belgian takeover of the Area? Probably give it at railroads. I don't know, I'm spit-balling. The slavery issue stumped me.

That was actually my long term goal with the statesman, but this idea is currently on hold.

Maybe culture could be used as the "political capital" resource. You could "spend" the culture in a city, reducing the amount and shrinking the borders as appropriate. It could be used to rush certain buildings, or unlock bonuses such as stability increases.

I feel like if any commerce should be used to improve stability, it should be espionage. After all, you're not only spying on foreign powers, are you? I feel like espionage should have a use even if you are isolated, enabling you to spy on your own subjects and keep them in line.

I figure that culture has always been the mechanic from vanilla civ4 that was the closest to stability. Namely, the concept of using the culture slider to get happiness for the whole nation.

Espionage could represent the underhanded "evil" tactics for controlling stability. Culture could be used for the positive side, everything being relative. These things could also be unlocked with specific techs which would help fill out the tech tree nicely.

On the conquerors event idea, I really like the conquerors that spawn in the Americas. I think that the key distinction is that the Inca and Aztec get conquerors that spawn against them. Whoever discovers them gets the conquerors; it's not always Spain. The Americans inevitably get conquered, but it could be by anyone. I don't like the idea of having scripted invasions where civ A invades civ B. If the goal is to ensure that Mali is invaded and collapsed, then simply give conquerors to whomever discovers them. The game remains open-ended, and you can find cool alternative histories.

But we don't want whoever discovers Mali first to conquer them because that would mean the conquerors would spawn in the Middle Ages. We want them to fall to a European civ during the Scramble for Africa. Or we just want the land to be empty so France and England can send some settlers there

Perhaps something related to civics? An effect of Totalitarianism could be the ability to spend espionage points to remove instability?

Could be something like, "first civ to contact them with rifles researched." If you already have contact when you complete the research, the troops show up immediatly. It could also be tied to tech era.

Ancient civilizations' economy sinks to the bottom thanks to the high maintenance fee of excessive slaves. Maybe something can be done about this?

You mean the units they capture?

Yes. They had so many slaves that they had to run research at ~20%.

Also they had like -20 stability penalty due to "loss to barbarians".

I'm talking about AIs, of course.

You know what, slaves should probably not cost maintenance anyway.

How many did they have though? Were they idle or used mostly as workers? Maybe I also need to improve the AI so they use them to hurry more. A look at a save would also help.

I rolled a 3000 BC Vikings start, and there were ~50 slaves in the world IIRC. China had ~20 and used them as inefficient workers. Lots of tiles remained unimproved.

If you need saves I can roll some starts and upload, later today.

Thanks, I think that would help.

Is there any interest for a company city value viewer in the WB?

Spoiler :

It's not really something you can edit; I think it is confusing to display derivative values of this kind in the WB.

OK, I exaggerated the number of slaves, or at least in the 5 3000 BC Vikings starts I rolled the total number of slaves in the world were around 20-30, as you can see for yourself. What one can observe is that in these games, AI China always had more than half of the slaves in the world(in the 5th save, China had 22 slaves out of the total of 25), and they paid handsome maintenance fee for that.

(You can also observe horrendous city placement.)

Yes! We could always use more statistics.

I really would like to see the company values somewhere in the city screen itself, not the worldbuilder. I really despise the Shaferian method of hiding information from the player.

Stop trying to troll me. Nobody displays literal AI weights in the game either.

I got some new ideas!

• I think how religion spreads with a great prophet needs to be looked at again. I once did the Spread religion, and nothing happened! It didn't even spread Protestantism across the channel to Paris.
• Great prophets should be able to spread religions even if you are Secular. You should be able to pick a religion. Likewise, they should be able to spread atheism.
• Religious prosecutors should not disappear if removing a religion is successful. Let's keep them around, and name them the spanish inquisition.
• Religious missionaries should arrive with Trading Company events.
• Serfdom should give +1 to watermills. Otherwise, slavery is just better

• The river in Nigeria really needs to be fixed. It should be moved 1W all the way up, and also not connect to the river flowing to the east.
• Madagascar should not have uranium and spices. In fact, the tile that has the spices should be a barren desert. Instead, place a cow and a coffee on the island.
• I've been thinking about this a lot, and I was wondering, do holy shrines have an advantage on faster speeds? It seems to me a 20 gold cap on marathon is more useful than a 20 gold cap on normal.
• Greenland. Come on man. Just add a few tundra and a whale and some aluminum. A couple forests on the bottom is historical. It isn't that much to make it look somewhat nice and realistic.
• Move the Scottish whale and island down so Edinburgh is superior to Inverness
• Make Belfast core for England
• Move river in Morocco 1W
• Remove oasis's in Sahara
• Remove uranium in Libya and place it under the mountain north of Nigeria

• Trafalgar, in my opinion, is simply too powerful, but only for a short time. I would much rather balance that out. How about reducing it to 25+ production bonus, but the experience bonus does not expire?
