Sukritact has been hired at Firaxis!

He certainly deserves it. He doesn't just do good work, but innovative as well. When he first put that grid in for seeing what effect placing a building would have I thought WTH is that for but then as I played it was obviously a really great idea. I fell on hard times, been gone a long time but I recognized his name when I saw it. If we lose him as a modder hopefully it's because he's just too busy doing big stuff in the game. I wish him the best of luck, the best job is the one you love.

Sukritact's mods are great. Hopefully the extra resources being part of the company, and presumably being able to be all "I would do this if only XXX was available to me" will help.

And I'm not just speaking of the basic UI mods. The urban identities mod in civ 6 was a great addition, it added just enough extra interest without going too far. Hopefully we can get more great bonuses like that officially now.

To cool down everyone's expectations. Please remember that it's different working on stuff as a modder to working on stuff as an employee. Let's hope he'll not be squashed by grinding gears of corporate procedures and will be able to deliver quality you know him for. Great news of course! :) Just trying to keep expectations at reasonable level.

I'm torn.

On the one hand I am happy for Sukritact. Well deserved and a great opportunity to work for a company that made the game he obviously cares so much about! Congratulations! :)

On the other hand... modders have so much more freedom in what they can do. No need to compromise with a team. No endless quality control cycles (but usually quick bug fixes instead). A lot less "out of the box" solutions now, because suddenly he is in the box himself.

Good job!!! I guess Firaxis recognised his work, he was already doing some good mods for civ6, and he is doing a good job for civ7 so far.

I really like having someone that knows the game in developpment, I hope that will hasten the UI polishing!

Yeah, in the X-Box :P

Pun aside, it will be different when he has to take consoles into account instead of doing the best interface just for PC.

In any case, very happy for him =)

We will see how much he is able to do. His mods afaik are for PC only, and not something that takes consoles into consideration. Whatever he makes, or helps on, will need to deal with that fact.

With all that said, he already has a UI mod out. Seeing some of these incorporated before the end of the month is doable. We probably wont see any major changes until after that. Hopefully the corporate bs doesnt hinder him too much.

And VR.

I'm definitely the last person to bash Civ going VR. I actually love it!
But aiming with controllers (and actually hitting a button) limits how small those buttons can be.

There are a lot of things to consider. Other than various types of controllers, companies usually have separate roles for UI designers and coders and, unlike mods, those things are rarely done by the same person. That's on top of that corporate processes require more testing, documenting, etc.

So I wouldn't expect miracles, but nonetheless, I'm happy for a creative person getting job with the game he likes and I'm looking forward for his contributions to make the game better.
