SUL5b - Competing Succession Game Teams

Stwils,

Why did you want to know when York's cultural borders would expand to the coast?

Bob, I noticed from the save that Writing is 11 turns away, and I'm not sure then how many turns for Map Making. My thinking was that perhaps by the time we get both of those the border in York will have expanded to the coast so we can still start the Great Lighthouse about as soon as would have been able to had we built York originally on the coast.

Does that make sense? (I still can't see anything on the York city display that tells how many turns before border expansion though.)

I had a big long set of notes typed up and I went to post it and the server was full and I lost it. I don't have time now to post them again, but I'll get them out soon
I didn't do much really

StWils,

The location of the cultural border doesn't impact on our ability to build the great lighthouse. The reason I was frustrated with the decision to build off the coast is that, as far as I understand, only coastal cities can build the Great Lighthouse and naval units. A city that has a border on a coast but does not have access to the sea can not build these improvements.

Padma,

since Vin lost his notes would it be okay for Infoman and the Georgia posse to get cracking? I'm sure they're anxious to go. :)

Bob,

So expanding to the coast would not help us. We would need to expand many tiles out beyond the coast to the sea to be able to be a coastal city. Is that what you are saying? Or are you saying the original city before border expansion has to be built on the coast?

Stwils,

The second one :)

The reason why there were so many cities that were actually on coastlines in the original dot map was so that we could use them to produce naval units improvements (like harbors and the Great Lighthouse).

Absolutely!

I'm just here for guidance, not detailed critiques like in a Training Day Game. :D

FWIW, I downloaded the save, but haven't had the chance to look at it myself. :)

Ok gentlemen, I am going to download the game in about an hour and play my 10 turns.

I printed a copy of the dot map from the prior posting as a reference.

:D

Infoman, you have 2 hours left to post your turns and savegame.

Just saying this to increase my post count.

My computer caught a virus last Friday and I have not been able to play my ten turns. Either skip me this round or move me to the bottom of the list. I should get my computer back either tomorrow or Wednesday from getting fixed.

Either stwils or mcdan pick it up see what you can do.

Sorry guys.

I am posting this from work since I do not have internet or email access for the next day or so at home.

Good luck.

 viruses :die:

Gentlemen,

I got my computer back so I will have it hooked back up later today barring any more problems with viruses.

:D

Infoman, you want to go ahead and take your turn now? And then I will follow you on our regular schedule.

Let me know.

Got ahead and play your turns. I have to get some work done at the house tonight on top of putting my computer back together. I catch it the next round. Thanks, for the consideration.

OK, team. I will be playing this tomorrow.

I have some questions to ask and want to know the general path we should take.

So do you have any input about where a new city should be founded. (If in fact we can do that these next 10 turns.)

And is it too early to decide if we want to go for Conquest or Culture or whatever.

And Wonders???????

Give forth your suggestions. :)

I realize we are in the early stages here but I don't want to screw things up for us...

We already have York and I think we need to build a road quickly between L and Y - gathering the incense along the way. For the next city - a coastal city definately - want to get crackin' toward a Great Lighthouse and Harbor :) - am looking at on Bob the Builder's dot placement map and think #2 or #5 seems good. Too risky to build at the "choke" for now - I like keeping Wally there for the time being. Am hopeful we can establish trade and an embassy with Romans. I might say choose #5 (am a novice) but we could build on the coast - have cities on either side of island, include the wheat and as we develop there will be little overlap. Humm.

Since England is Expansionist and Commercial - seems like we should be concentrating on either a Domination or Cultural Vic. Either way - build up defense, found cities, and prepare for wonders - really want that G. Lighthouse so we can travel and trade. (am broken record on the GL - must find another wonder to focus on :) )

Observations - 11 moves until Writing with science at 20%. After writing I would suggest Map Making and then return to Bronze Working - does that seem OK? Hopefully when trade improves with other countries we will be acquiring these more quickly through trade. We are not listed in the top 5 cities.

Well, that's my imput for now - wonder what the rest of the team thinks ???

stwils,

It is still early and we need to focus on expansion. Try and get cities on Dot 1 & 5. This will cut the peninsula we are on in half and provide 2 coastal cities to build and explore from. 1 will have the whale and 5 will have wheat.

Tech wise we need to get map making as soon as possible to build ships.

I would not worry about wonders at this time.

I would focus on getting cities going via settlers. My preference is coastal placements for now. In the interim I'd either get a few more scouts or military units to gain contact with whomever is to our north.
