Sum up liberals and conservatives!

A liberal wants you to do as you please, but that society should support you in doing so.

A conservative wants you to do as he pleases, but that you should support yourself in doing so.

A libertarian wants you to do as you please, and that you should support yourself in doing so.

Those that want you to do as they please and that society should support you in doing so go by many labels.

 That sums it up nicely. :goodjob:

Lets see you guys sum up liberals and conservatives in one (non run-on) sentance each!
I can do better than that; one sentence for both.

Politics makes strange bedfellows.

(In other words, Perfection is right. There's no core meaning to the labels - just two hashes of positions that have stuck together in recent history.)

The Politians:

Conservatives - Wear a Blue tie
Liberals - wear a Red tie.

Otherwise none.

Conservatives want more economic freedom and often equate government interference as reducing freedom. Most conservatives want a smaller government that is less involved in day to day activities.

However there are some conservatives who view police, military, and intelligence agencies as very important and strive to maintain high levels of funding for these groups. These people form one bloc of the conservative type. Not all conservatives are like this. To stereotype all of them as being like this is to miss the big picture.

Many conservatives think that superflous genetic attributes aka "race" should play not any role in how society is goverened.

Liberals often think that the government promotes freedom through various programs, grants, and allowances. Liberals are much more likely to distrust a hands off free market economy and prefer a larger role for the government. Liberals often believe that minority groups require protection by various programs. They often insist this is to combat discrimination however I definitely do not view it in that way. Liberals frequently support extensive regulations in most economic activities.

Extremely libertarian or extremely authoritarian branches of either become more similar oddly enough (in terms of the means to produce objectives not in their goals). It is the mild conservatives and the mild liberals that are very different, usually (often being opposites on almost every issue).

Each side insists they are more "intelligent", wiser, smarter, and more open minded than the other side. I largely suspect that this is merely a scam to get people to support one side or the other. It is a trite trick to claim superiority in this manner over your opposition. Claims like those merely skews the reality of what each side supports (not to mention make dissent difficult). The "race card" or claiming the foe is always racist (without bothering to understand their position) is a lame tactic employed frequently in political wars. For example if one opposes affirmative action one is often dubbed "a racist".

I'll post Fearless Leader's, because I like it:

Republicans: Crooks who are idiots sometimes.
Democrats: Idiots who are crooks sometimes.
