From the Signup and Game thread, this thread is to vote on whether or not character requests should be allowed.

A couple of comments on character requests:

1. You have no idea what your role PM will look like, so the reasoning for your request would not be for a more powerful character, just your favorite character.

2. A request could only be made in PM

3. A request does not mean you'll get the character, it just means I'll take your requests into account VS I do it totally at random.

4. Just because a character is evil doesn't mean they are mafia, you never know.

5. You have a week to vote

6. Voting will be public, and votes from non-players will not count. I will vote only if there is a tie, and only to break the tie, as I don't really have much preference. My slight preference will not be revealed ATM.

If I do accept requests, I will only accept them through PM. Don't request until I get 25 signups (I modified the number.)

EDIT: Zack I'm not surprised. Feel free to post in the thread and back up your opinion up. It may convince people.

DOUBLE EDIT: Omega, Roy will be included only if we get at least 30 people, as some roles will now be used for cover.

Alright, a couple of points:

1. You didn't vote. Only votes on the poll will be counted.

2. You don't know anything about your character role PM, who is mafia, what your abilities will be, or even if you will get the character you requested. All you are basing your suggestion on is who you like in Brawl.

3. I'm only deciding this via Democracy ATM because I personally have no real opinion ATM. If you can convince me why its bad I'll single-handedly reverse it voting aside.

Eh, I sort of do have a slight leaning, but not enough to make an accurate decision. Enough that ATM I'm willing to let democracy decide.

However, one good argument is better to me than 6 votes without discussion. While I suspect allowing requests will win in the votes if you can convince me why it won't work I won't do it.

Remember, not all "Bad Guys" will be mafia, and not all "Good Guys" will be innocent.

Well, yes, however:

A: I'm not letting people pick, I'm letting people give requests, and therefore it won't be totally random, but I still have the final decision to say no.

B: Unlike Star Wars Mafia, its irrelevant whether your character is good or evil, that doesn't mean whether they are mafia or not. It makes no difference.

C: Only requests in PM will be counted.

I'd really like to take your word on this one, but as it seems very popular I'd like to be told exactly why it kills the game. Even if everyone else votes for it I'll kill it if its proven to me it'll ruin the game.

Also, Zack, did you reenter the game? I thought you left. Maybe that's why you didn't vote?

ATM Its 6-2 in favor of allowing character requests. I'm curious as to why CivPlayah thinks it will "Ruin the whole game."

Uh, because, if you pick your own characters, it ruins the element of surprise from the whole game. I mean, sure, you don't know whether your character is 'good' or 'bad' but I'm pretty darn sure you would have a good idea.

This isn't Pick Your Poison. This is Snakes and Foxes. So let's play it like it's meant to be played and not obscure it into something it's not.

For the record, I don't know where Zack is coming from, this game is far more similar to the Sith game he's hosting than a mafia game, where people made up characters and stats wholecloth. Lots of Mafia and NOTW hosts in the pasts have often been rather biased imo in giving out roles nonrandomly - not that this is bad, but this isn't even so far as that, as the host is just taking preferences into consideration.

Assuming everything is fairly reasonable about really obvious characters not just being "good" or "bad" I think it's fine for people to get a favorite. At the least, perhaps we could come up with a list of characters not to have in the game - if we only have like 25 players or something just to ensure no one gets someone like Jigglypuff (if they don't want to)

Balance trumps what you guys want. Period. If giving someone a certain character would break the game, I won't do it (And there's a deep spot in my that wants to give Tanicius Mario to mess with him)

Seriously though, while I think Jigglypuff is a pretty good character, she probably would be "Weaker." I'm gonna try to keep everything balanced and so on, some characters will probably be more powerful than others, I won't deny it, but I will make every character good in his own way.

BTW- I still haven't decided ATM. I can see both positives and negatives. In a Brawl game like this one, its not like a Mafia game. AFAIK it won't break the game.

Maybe I should have never brought it up, even though Ilduce really wanted it. I don't want to tick anyone and I don't want anyone to leave. I'll decide later. Your votes will make a difference, as will your arguments.
