Superpower

No they may have a military to rival anyone's but economically they are backward. I doubt they'll ever be a serious rival to the US as having a strong military is now less important than a strong economy. China relies on foreign investment- without this they'd struggle.

China is quiet fascinating. I personally have no doubt that the 21st century will be the chinese century. Right now they are the second biggest economy in the world. If they continue to grow like they grew in the last decades, they'll be number one in 30-40 years. The obvious critical point is, how will they manage the internal problems they will face in the near future. The other question is, will they become bellegrient ? And how will the neighbours of China react ? Particularly Japan, which gets more and more dwarfed by its neighbour.

Aren't you guys forgetting India being a superpower in this century? Just because much isn't heard about it doesn't mean it is weak.

USA, and China - EU will be puppet of USA. That is the way of the future. Just take a look at the GNP numbers.

It's all about the enonomic power. Balance of power: China<-->U.S.
All others will be secondary.

The Brits screwed India over - hard. Everything is all mixed up. It'll be at least another hundred years before they finally recover from it.

But Veeeery Looong Term, yes, India should eventually be a super power.

They'll become truely capitalistic when they'll become truely democratic. I also don't agree that they have the army to become a super power. Their army is large, but it's nearly worthless beyond China's immidiate nehibours.

China's immediant goal is not to become the dominant super power but to achieve "regional hedgimony", or in other words to be able to dominate eastern Asia, which does not take a army that can travel the world. The get forgein companies to invest in China, which helps their economy, but high-tech industries like the airplane manufacturers are forced to build factories and train Chinese workers if they want to do business in China. That gives China many military secrets they would not normally gain access to. China aslo spies on the U.S.A. for the same reasons. They use their large political lobby in America to gain privledges like favored nation status. China will continue to grow stronger until America realizes whats happening and stops China from taking advantage of us.

Yeah, i can't believe the bull**** our government is doing to us. First we screwed the Tibetan guerlla fighters, it was a very touching report. Then, we let the Chinese take over almost every job in America because it saves money. Do you really think that the CEO's getting filthy rich off of that money will want to create jobs in America where they have to pay people? NOOOOOOO!!!!!
America promotes peace and democracy, no?, then why are the Chinese allowed to suppress correct guerillas in Tibet and Xinjiang?

I'm very sorry about that. As an American I am absolutely disgusted with the way our government pimps nations such as yours and even moreso how your leaders are so willing to follow along with it. However, it has been my experience to expect nothing less than absolute corruption from these people.

As an American I find absolutly nothing wrong with that. If the Australians want to disregard the U.S. they can, we won't stop them. We did not stop France and Germany from doing the exact same thing. We support governments that suport us. Most governments did that at one time.

India has a lot of potential, perhaps more than any other country. But their economy is pretty weak compared with their size, and unlike China they aren't hiding their problems.

Demographic trends and political disunity will cripple the EU.

The US won't be disappearing anytime soon, but the US has also probably reached the limits of its power.

India has potential but given current trends is certainly not going to reach superpower status within the next 50 years.

China will grow ever stronger. Let's hope their values change. It will be disturbing to have a non-democratic superpower that's fascist in all but name.
