Doesn't anyone think Civ4 is awesome enough already. It corrected all the mistakes from Civ3, Its enormously moddable and well balanced with MANY diverse strategies possible for victory for each victory condition.

SO unless they find a way to recreate the modern minitech races like in WWII between germany and the allies and have lots of little but important unit advances and expand this to the entire modern era

I WANT ALPHA CENTAURI II INSTEAD. c'mon alpha centauri was like top 5 games alltime. Its up there with the half lifes, civ 2, x-com ufo defense and mario bros.
how could you not want this game with modern gaming techs/ideas. This would be sick and the modding in this game would be ridiculous. Lets hear some support or reports of developments on this front.

They should work on perfecting(AI,Diplomacy, etc.) civ4 before moving and bringing out another sequel.

I'll stick with Civ. The problem playing strategy games based on an alien or fantasy world is that I don't know what techs do what and what to go for. I was lost completely on the Test of Time fantasy scenario and abandoned SMAC after starting one game because I couldn't really relate to the tech tree as much as I could with Civ. (Even going back to Civ II the hardest thing is readjusting to the technology paths and I can't believe I got so good at back in my university days that I beat the local chess champ - who introduced it to all of us when we got bored of losing to him at chess - hollow :)...)

@blunt3d - never was a truer word spoken. Though things seem better with BtS.

I am sure the same was said of Civs 1, 2, and 3 when they were the most modern thing that could be made.

Hell, in ten years, we're going to look on Civ4 as ugly and poorly designed :D

I'd like SMAC II as well....but I understand that there's a licensing problem: apparently, Electronic Arts still owns the rights to SMAC.

Until that's changed, there will likely be no SMAC II. :(

There could be if Ea successfully takes over 2k. And at this point, I couldn't care less if they do or not.

I'd prefer to see another expansion pack. Something that would make certain traits no longer suck (Spi, Prot, and Imp), something that would add a large amount of new civs and some more leaders for existing civs (Why does Japan only have one leader still? Japan and Spain are like the only two Civ4 vanilla civs to still have only one leader.)

As a Civ lover of course I'd be happy to see a Civ V roll out but I'm not burned out on Civ IV yet, glad to see colonization getting revamped, and could stand to see a SMAC II hit before a Civ V too.

Why not just use a mod that adds a zillion leaders and civs? I personally don't see a need for even more leaders and civs. There are only so many ways to scramble the traits, starting techs, and potential UBs/UUs. Adding more civs and leaders just means you'll have a lot of repetition and overlap.

The graphics for Civ4 now look old and for that reason probably very few new people will buy it at this stage.

Not going to happen unless EA buys out Take Two. They own the rights to it. And they certainly aren't going to sell it to Take Two or Firaxis as long as they're trying to take them over.

You should. EA has a reputation of destroying good development houses. If they do the same to Firaxis that they did to Westwood, Civ games in the future will suck big time and eventually Firaxis will no longer exist.

What's wrong with Spiritual? It's a hell of an advantage being able to bounce between civics any time you like. If I'm suddenly at war, I can switch instantly to Police State, Nationhood, Vassalage and Theocracy. When it's all over I can switch instantly back to Representation, Free Religion etc. That's a huge benefit! That makes it one of the most powerful traits in the game IMO.

Sure, world peace would be nice, but don't you think the world is awesome enough already? I mean, there are no world wars going on and I can't remember the last time someone was nuked.

A little bit over the top, sure, but the principle is the same. Everything can be tweaked to made better, why stop at an arbitraty point?

lol. Those are three of my favourite traits (Spi > Pro > Imp)

It loses its advantage as of BtS.
By the time you have all of the civics, Cristo is available. Not to mention that golden ages are a lot cheaper now.
The only way you can even make limited use is to build both Pyramids and the wonder that gives you all religious techs.

Cristo can only be built by one civ, and you can't always be in a Golden Age. It may not be quite as advantageous as it used to be, but it's still pretty powerful.

In Civ5 I'd like to see battles on more than one plains. For example, you capture a planet, and then it becomes availabl to you like it is in FF, and if it's attacked, you have to fend off the attackers on the global map.

I don't agree with that at all. Sorry. A decent graphics card + BlueMarble is a vast improvement over running it with minimum specs.

I bet when Colonization is out, we will be able to take the Ocean dds files and dump them into BTS too oooohooooh :-)

And if all someone is concerned with is how CIV looks, they shouldn't bother playing at all.
