SW1 - Rule Britannia

Got it, played it. As nobody declared war on us, there's little to report other than tech advances and trading.

>>>THE SAVE<<<<

Turn Log:
0 500 Gift Hammy into the Middle Ages, to see what free tech he gets. Engineering. Monotheism and Monarchy go his way for that tech. Now to France, who have Feudalism. Mono+Engineering gets that one. Iron+Dyes for Furs+Ivory+change from France. We're not planning on invading France too soon, are we? Lux rate goes down to 0% as a result. Chivalry in 7 turns @ -7gpt. Disband some reg. Warriors as they're a waste of space and support, and get us back to running at a profit (1gpt). Switch Temple builds to Libraries, they're more useful and only 20 shields more. Brighton switched to a Library as well, working the mined hill instead of the tundra gets it 3 shields instead of 1.

1 510 I love the Lighthouse… even more so as a seafaring Civ. Movement 5 Galleys safe at sea on a map like this? Uber-Power! Not much doing this turn.

2 520 Again not much, except Ipswich rioting because I forgot to switch CivAssist back to auto load. Couple of units built, London Mace->Horse, Dover Horse->Library. Switch Oxford from Palace to Library; as a pre-build, it's pretty slow going.

3 530 Dye Forests Aqua->Market. Warwick Aqua->Horse. South Fish Harbor->Court. Berwick Worker->Court. Oops, Oxford has the FP… still want to get a Library there, though, and MM to get it more shields.

4 540 London Horse->Sun Tzu (pre-build for Leo). Leeds Mace->Court.
5 550 Coventry Market->Horse.
6 560 Farsouthpoint Worker->Harbor.
7 570 Learn Chivalry, start Invention. Canterbury Aqua->Knight. SWeetpot Library->Treb.
8 580 Newcastle Court->Settler. Oxford Library->KT. Cambridge Barracks->Court.
9 590 Romey Pokey Walls->Court. Comandgetme Harbor->Court. I park a Knight on a hill north of Romey Pokey, just to let Pizza Boy know we have 'em ;)
10 600 Coventry Knight->Library. France building KT. In Besancon, a size 3 city miles from Paris with little or no improvements. The AI sure is funny sometimes.
11 610 Ship Monotheism to Rome for Spices. Dye Forests Market->Worker. Newcastle Settler->Aqua. Richmond Library->Court.
12 620 Dye Forests Worker->Library. Canterbury Knight->Library. SWeetpot Treb->Aqua.
13 630 Invention->Gunpowder. Warwick Knight->Library.
14 640 London switched from Sun Tzu to Leo's.
15 650 Nothing doing. Next player: there are some sweet gpt deals out there for Feudalism (most notably Arabia and Babylon) - I'd go for them. France are the only ones keeping up with us tech-wise (they got Chivalry a few turns after we did), so no tech deals with Joanie, even if she offers to pay well. Nobody's interested in invading us, and given our military, I doubt anyone will try it on for some time. This could be a builder's paradise.

Neil. :cool:

We have the Library, yes, but the AI are researching at such a pitiful pace, and have so few contacts of their own (and won't until Astronomy... AFTER the GL expires) that, whilst it's profitable to shut down research, it's not going to get us many techs. Perhaps a few turns to save up for upgrades, but as we're building Leo's, that can wait as they're not urgent due to us not fighting anyone.

Neil. :cool:

^I was just thinking we should take advantage of the slow tech pace to build up our infrastructure, so that when war does come, we'll be so powerful that the other Civs will cringe at our might :)

And we probably should not be trading Iron to France. They're probably our top adversary at this point in the game.

the log

4-move transports
5-Canterbury lib > knight, come&getme get a sci guy due to unhappy dudes.

summary.
we are nice in the bank.
also VERY nice techwise.
up chiv + Inv on babylon, mono + eng on carthage, eng on russia, rep + mono + eng on arabs (id love to get those silks), poly + rep on zulu, gunpowder on frogs (stoopid ironhead :suicide: ) and eng + chiv on rome.
thay are all broke.

hammy wants horses + chiv for his insence. maybe we should take it?

How bout we rush some culture in towns around rome like Romey Pokey, Loch Ness and whatever town is next to Rome's on our continent?

I *tentatively* got it, as I don't believe I'll be able to play for 48 hours. If a new recruit appears, allow them to play first.

@ ChrTh - u got it mate. if you cant play, just post. i will try to delay your turns asmuch as possible.

@ the admiral - i think i've been a complete idiot to forget rushing during my turns. and believe me, i thought about it, just never occured to me to actually RUSH anything. the ony redeming reason i have is that i was broke most of my turns - or saving up for leo's
rushing some culture is a great idea. maybe we will get that roman town out of romey pokey for free. and avoiding back flips is always nice.
we should do that.

soul warrior,

I've been thinking about this game, and while I hate to say it, I think we might want to abandon it. Here are my reasons:
1) We've won this game. At this difficulty level, with us all being humans (and the AI not being ones), with the tech lead and our infrastructure ... the only way I can see us losing is if we somehow don't have coal
2) The goals of this game are unworkable. The only way to get luxury monopolies is to essentially break the back of the owning Civs, and after doing that, they're not good partners for trading. (Plus we can't declare war)
3) It's tough with the defections, but four players isn't enough to play a SG where we hope to be at war to acquire the luxuries, there will be a lot of delays for availability, etc.

It's your game, so I don't want to tell you what to do, and if you want to keep playing, I'm more than willing to continue. I just think you might want to spend your time focusing on your other games rather than keep up with this one.

@ ChrTh - ill admit you made some very valid (and disturbing point). we are at a very time consuming phase, adn the lack of players isnt helping at all.

if the team wants to abandon, so be it, but i think i will keep it up, as i am wondering how soon and what score i can get out of this.

so - your votes please gentlemen. continue or abandon?

if we get another abandon vote, i fear we will have to declare this as "won on technicalities". OTH - i will try and keep it smoldering with some advances.

speaking of RL, I'm not available to play until Friday. I agree the game's won, but I'm agreeable to finishing it.

If the rest of the group wants to keep playing, well, so do I! :thumbsup:

I'm playing now, will have it back tonight

Early Years 800 AD - 850 AD

I drop science to 0%. This does two things: slows down the game, and maybe give the AI a fighting chance, and gives us time to build up infrastructure.

I sure as heck ain't giving away Chivalry

I do trade for Incense from Hammy, giving him Iron, Dyes, and 10gpt

Joan has Theology, wants to trade it for Gunpowder. I :love: her, but I resist her charms.

Middle Years 860 AD - 900 AD

We complete the Knights who say Ni! in Oxford

We complete Leo's Workshop in London. Let the Mad Upgrade Orgy begin!

We give the Zulu The Republic for Wines

Later Years 900 - 950 AD

Time to re-up with Joan...I have to trade her Iron otherwise I'd lose two luxes and I don't want to have to raise the Lux rate...I get her treasury though

Oxford riots one turn before Temple is built :rolleyes:

Our Palace gets a new wing!

Ok, the three workers on the home continent are foresting the Tundras, three workers=three turns, keep them together to finish.

Newcastle is our defacto troop gathering point.

That's really all I got, did a lot of upgrading and infrastructure this time. Still a waaaaay too peaceful world :spear:

Nothing happened until 970 when Hammi moved a bowman and 2 pikes next to Loch Ness. In 990, I got tired of them sitting there so I politely demanded they leave our territory or declare. Hammi chose the latter. In response, I upped the luxury rate to 20% and killed the bowman. Pizza Boy was amicable to a Right of Passage so he's off our back for 20 turns. Pizza Boy sold us the secret recipe for his food (spices) for dyes and 13gpt. Keep the roads to the east and west of Loch Ness garrisoned or Hammi will land a bow or pike there every other turn. In 1080, the re-foresting of the north was finished. In 1060, I had a brain spasm and forgot we had the GL and traded Chiv. to Abu for Theo, 13gpt and 65g. Cathy finished Sun Tzu's. Joan finished Sistine. The Fall of Nineveh came in 1090 when it was razed by our lone elite knight. The brutality of the destruction did not bring forth a MGL. Incense Coast was built to redevelop the area. Several cultural civic improvements were rushed. There's a mini-SoD in Incense Coast. Joan has education. The homeland rally point is Newcastle. Watch Pizza Boy and keep the cities garrisoned. He keeps parading MI around our borders. I'd like to get the gems before letting Hammi off the hook. I played 15 turns.
