SW8 - Stupid Spacers!!!!

the SoZ sure would be nice, if only we didn't have to build it.

The Veii 4 turn settler factory is working well.

Nice turns Vol. BTW, I looked up the ST episode and it's entitled "The Apple", however, the advanced machine on the planet is named "Vaal". Don't you just love the internet and how you can research such near worthless trivia.

Do we have any fears at this point in the game of making the AI's too weak to get the tech pace needed for Space?

Definitely no fear yet. Remember there's a whole other continent.

Speaking of which, now that we have Map Making, time for some galleys and some suicide voyages!

I've got -- you guessed it -- homework! -_-

Tomorrow night shouldn't be as busy, though I don't like saying that then not being able to play after all.

If jb can play tonight, we can swap, and I'll play tomorrow.

Swap w/ IP...

Turn 0 – 350 BC
Goal is Construction & Currency. Theo will not talk.
Varna and Adrianople are both the next viable target. More units can reach Adrianople so that’s next.
Neopolis SoZ.
Move Legions outward. Bring an elite into play.

IBT: GA is over.

Turn 1 – 330 BC
Moving units to settle, attack, build.

IBT: Byz sword runs out and makes a legion elite. Doofus Byz archer moves into open next to an elite legion.
Ragnar’s not happy about our ship.
Spain’s building the HG’s
Viking warrior looking aggressive towards worker.

Turn 2 – 310 AD
Elite win. No GL.
Move worker back into our territory to help w/ Neopolis.
Theo can only offer us Philo and Poly. I’ll take it, spare Adrianople, and hope she has more to offer the next time around. England, Spain and the Vikes all have Construction as well as at least one Government tech.
We are strong vs. all others.
Ragnar’s too far away at the moment.
Peace treaty w/ Spain is up in 3 turns so Isabella’s next.

IBT: Theo kicks out our forces. Rome riots. Brilliant.
Theo’s borders expand and push out beyond one of our dots (Lt. Blue). Wasn’t counting on that.

Turn 3 – 290 AD
Move settler towards brown.
Found Syracuse on southern hill near English territory.

IBT: Isabella’s not happy about us scouting her land and so we’ll leave for the moment.

Turn 4 – 270 AD
Moving troops.
Turn 5 – 250 AD
Moving troops.

Turn 6 – 230 AD
These Viking warriors in the North keep running up to our workers as if there about to pounce. Man I would like to off these dorks. Nothing else.

IBT: Viking units move off.

Turn 7 – 210 AD
We can declare on Theo but the forces are not shifted over there as of yet.

Turn 8 – 190 AD
Found Caesaraugusta and Palmyra. Moving forces.

Turn 9 – 170 AD
Found Jerusalem and Tarentum

Turn 10 – 150 AD
There are enough units in place to attack Spain but if you wait until next turn there will be two more elites on the scene.

well, was hoping for one of the C techs.
no matter, thats why we keep spain around.

my guess is we have about 25 turns before the MAS and revolution.

thats when this gets really hard...

Iro up (switched with JB)
SW on deck

I was hoping for one of the C-techs as well but Theo had neither and keeping her at war wasn't going to make them come any faster.

I also really, really wanted to kill the two Viking warriors running around in our northern parts but again, since this would only slow Ragnar down on the tech pace and have a very small chance of extracting anything of value from him, I resisted.

Pre-turn – Looks good. I’ll wait till next turn to attack.

IBT – The Spanish archer moves out of range of our stack.

130 (1) – Antium worker->worker. Lutetia warrior->worker. Hmm, 3 of our cities have over a 1% chance of flipping.

Declare on Isabella. Move most units towards Barcelona, but the 2 elites go to Valencia.

Why was there a settler fortified in Lutetia? Send it south

IBT – Theo asks us to leave her territory. Ah, Sardica’s borders expanded.

110 (2) – Pompeii worker->Legion. Capture Barcelona, losing 1 vet Legion, but killing 2 spears and a sword. That also gets us another iron. Kill the 2 stray swords and archer, but lose 3 (!) legions! At least we get another elite.

Found Nicomedia ->worker.

Upgrade a reg warrior.

IBT – The Byzantines send an archer into our lands…it’s probably just passing through, but I’m keeping an eye on it. Spain moves an archer and a spear out of Valencia.
Portugal completes the Great Wall in Lisbon.

90 (3) – Rome legion->settler. Veii settler->settler. Wait, the factory seems to be off. It’s at size 4. Build a cat for now. Viroconium cat->cat.

IBT – A Spanish sword appears south of Nicomedia…how’d he get there?

70 (4) – At Valencia, one legion takes one damage killing a spear, the other dies, doing just one damage.

IBT – Now a Viking warrior moves into our territory…
A Spanish spear/settler pair moves onto the iron by Barcelona. Not sure if they’re planning on pillaging or not.

50 (5) – Toledo warrior->legion. The Legion takes Valencia, but is reduced to 2 hp. Another Legion is coming to help.
Upgrade the warrior.
Isabella is willing to give us Currency, but that’s not enough.
I ask the Viking warrior to leave, but he doesn’t. I can’t get any units to help protect Neapolis (defended by just an archer), so I move units closer.

IBT – False alarm. The warrior moves on. The Spanish spear/settler pair heads back, but two more swords move onto the iron. Some other units appear to the north.

30 (6) – Rome settler->legion. Ravenna worker->worker. Brundisium barracks->legion.
Settle Seleucia ->temple. It’s right by Byzantines and I don’t want this to flip.
Kill both swords on the iron, losing just 1 hp.
Switch Syracuse to a temple, since it has a 1.5% chance of flipping.

IBT – The palace gets a second story…with no windows. A Hun galley appears by our curragh.

10 BC (7) – Veii cat->settler. Get two Elite wins (sword and archer), but no leader.

IBT – One Spanish sword by Nicomedia (another had appeared, too) attacks, and redlines a legion. The Hun takes two off our curragh, but sinks.

10 AD (8) – Cumae galley->legion. Hispalis legion->legion.
Move some troops towards Santiago.

IBT – A sword attacks the Santiago stack and wins!
Vikings start Sun Tzu’s!

30 (9) – Viroconium cat->legion. Palmyra barracks->legion. Tarentum warrior->worker.

Kill the sword by Santiago. Kill the last sword by Nicomedia, and promote the legion. Get another elite win, but still no leader.

We can get Currency, Lit, and 64 gold from Isabella now, but I want Construction so we can get into the Middle Ages.

I abandon Barcelona because of the flip risk, but a settler is coming to resettle.

IBT – The Vikings send a warrior into English land. Elizabeth then asks for Ivory and 11 gpt for Gems, but that’s a :nono:

50 (10) – Rome legion->legion.

2 spears and a sword are killed at Santiago and we capture the city without any losses.

The settler is heading north to resettle Barcelona.

Isabella still won’t offer Currency and Construction. We may have to take one more city (which I think is the capital, Madrid).

After Isabella, I’d say the Byzantines need a beatdown. Sardica is pretty annoying.

grab it Own.
im certain you'll like it.
seems rather straight forward now, but were getting to the point where things are begining to be harder.
just remember these basic rules: No sci EVER and only deals are via peace talks. (no 20 turn deals allowed)
just post an "i got it" as i planned on doing this tomorrow.
ill post a "im playing now" if you havent, but you can take it after me (unless Vol wants it)

SW - got it unless Own grabs it.
Own - ?
Vol -
IroP -
JB -

Another question- Can I give them gold for currency and construction in peace talk?

Thats what we have been doing previously.

Razing is preferred to capturing because of flip risks, city placement, and slaves.

Looking at the game, I am starting to get concerned about crippling the AIs.

England, Spain, and Scandanavia are all small and have poor land (jungle, water, and tundra, respectively).

We probably really need to get in contact with the other continent, and perhaps trade those contacts to our continent through future peace talks. This could help keep the tech pace reasonable.

It might be nearing the time to slow down a bit on military build up and focus on infrastructure.

Future wars should be very limited, and just taking what we can get in techs. Here's a proposed list of cities to raze in future wars.
England: Warwick and Newcastle. (Maybe Liverpool).
Byzantines: Sardica, and Naissus.

Another strategy might be to to eliminate one civ, but leave the land open for another civ to colonize. Like raze England, but let the Vikings settle it.

If that's true, we can always gift them cities. If that's against the rules, we can abandon some cities and let them resettle the area.

more infra, less military sounds very nice.

i disagree. we want all civs to be ready, willling and able.
