Before the comming of each civ game, players may expreience a number of sympthoms. If these are not treated it could lead to long hours of re-reding civ news and refreshing Gamespot.

I am having truble with this and its causing me alot of problems.
I hope some of you could share some time waiting tactics to get us throught this anctious period of awaiting. If you are also suffering from this sickness, feel free to talk about.

Lets stick together for the next 120 days.

Sitting down to read the whole pre-release section on here, visiting the forums often, and yeah... visiting Gamespot. Need some tactics! Fast!

Good thread ;).

Same here. Seems like im a falling into a daily routine. When i get home and go on the internet, i check out Civfanatics and then head on over to gamespot, after that i continure with my normal day. However, i go through these periods 2-3 times a day. I need help!!!

Wow...you guys are true fanatics. I'm always the last one to hear about new news. But I would say you should just console yourself with the knowledge that one day it will come...

Severe your internet connection!
The withdraw symptoms will continue for a month but then you will be fine.
The real trouble will be in November and December.
No need to worry yourself with Gamespot addiction when the actual game is still to come.

Side effects include:
-Drymouth
-Nausea
-Indigestion
-Drowziness
and
-Turn-Based Perception of time

Civilization is not for everyone, consult your doctor before using. Civilization should be played if you have had recent surgery or suffered severe injury.

Use only as directed.

Yea i tried other games. I am waiting for crown of Glory, anyone know of the game. Its sapose to be released but there is no info about it. I dont know, as soon as i start thinking of one game i start thinking of civ.

Its bad and there is still so much time left. I want civ before i explode.

Well, whenever I am not playing Civ3 to wile away the hours, I am almost always here-or at apolyton-looking for even the slightest hint of new info on the game.
The worst symptom for me, though, is that whenever I see an in-game screen shot, I instinctively try and click on the cities and/or units-either to bring up info, or to send them off to attack someone-only to remember that you can't interact with the game yet :( .

Same problem. The worse is trying for hours to create a unit line in a piece of paper or thinking on posible civlopedia entries. It´s a nightmare trying to put everything togheter in your head with the limited info that we have.
Also: Extreme exciment due to new information.

Try vBraun's method and get a new interest to pass the time. I for one have all my focus on my upcoming new cash-infusing hobby of DJing. I suggest you all find things you love unrelated to civ and give your attention to those.

I am experiencing similar symptoms.

Spending my time at work compiling pre-release information about the game. Hoping the game will be everything we hope for. Thinking up strategies on the shards of information we have.

Cant wait to get my hands on it. Until then I just got Knights of honor last night. Seems like a fun game, complex though...

Someone was talking about Turn-Based Perception of time, I think there was a physics theory of time that was supposing that there was sorta something like that. The idea was at least it might be incremental. So maybe it wasn't a symptom but you starting to notice the effect. Remember something is wrong only if you admit it is wrong ;) .

Me too...
Checking Civfanatics every hour at workplace, reading threads...
I also reread articles, yes...

I find the best way to kill time till mid-November is to play Civ3! :)
(don't tell me we should already put it off)

Well, yes, luckily I will have more work to be done IRL, which for one brings some money for a new machine (for Civ IV), and consumes time, too... great! :)

My solution for this is to not, in any way, allow myself to see or read anything about Civ IV. Yes, I am extremely excited about its release, but I have forced myself to stay away from any information about the game. Because of this, when the game does go gold, everything will be completely fresh and new to me. I know it sounds odd that I would post this here in this forum; the explanation is that I saw this thread as a topic on the main forum list. ;) I think a good way for you to pass the time as you anxiously await its release is to play Civ III a few more times. Start an epic game on a huge map on deity level. That should help you to pass a lot of time. Alternatively, play a COTM or GOTM for Civ III. Hang in there! :)

:crazyeye: That's a good one!

I've learned to avoid that kind of pre-release devotion to a game. It has burned me in the past. You spend too much time fawning over something that is still a ways away, and then when it comes out, it doesn't live up to the hype you've been building up for it over the months you've waited.

I'd say relax, and try to find other things to enjoy. Play some other games, be it civ3 or something entirely different. Don't worry about it too much. If you don't spend all your time anticipating it, it will be out before you know it and you'll be happier for it.

If you guys are bored, I'm sure the GOTM and COTM could use more particapents. And then theres also the Demogame. :)
