Symptoms before Civ game!

I was in a COTM just recently-and I think it lasted all of 1 night, because I got thoroughly caned by the Germans around 600BC or something  . That will teach me to take on a game at Emporer level :mischief: . At the moment, I am nuking Greek cities as a way of taking my mind off of Civ4 for a while :nuke:  .

Yours,
Aussie_Lurker.

The Sims 2 and Mafia consume too much of my non-Civ3 time for me to obsess over Civ4. I have four websites I visit as soon as I get online, all at once (tabbed browsing, doncha know. :D ), and CFC is one of them...if there's news here, I read it. Besides, my anticipation of Civ4 is tempered by the growing realization my computer most likely won't run it...or TS2: University...or TS2: Nightlife...

My solution for this is to not, in any way, allow myself to see or read anything about Civ IV. Yes, I am extremely excited about its release, but I have forced myself to stay away from any information about the game. Because of this, when the game does go gold, everything will be completely fresh and new to me. I know it sounds odd that I would post this here in this forum; the explanation is that I saw this thread as a topic on the main forum list. ;) I think a good way for you to pass the time as you anxiously await its release is to play Civ III a few more times. Start an epic game on a huge map on deity level. That should help you to pass a lot of time. Alternatively, play a COTM or GOTM for Civ III. Hang in there! :)
I look at prerelease but I just don't let myself care much either way. Your strategy certainly works.

I especially like tehsensei's method! Work harder and play harder and ignore civ!

I remember reading of your series of unfortunate events. I, too, a solid Emperor level player, narrowly avoided disaster at the hands of the Germans. You'll be happy to know that I was able to rebound and win via 100K culture. I took out those Germans for you in my game. ;)

You will be happy to know that both the COTM and GOTM that are currently available are both Monarch. Cruise on over to the GOTM, download the save, and have another go. Good luck! :)

Hygro,

Yes, it has worked well for me. I remember getting really anxious about PTW and Conquests. Although I thoroughly enjoyed both when they were released, especially Conquests, the anxiety detracted from the games a tiny bit. I am still holding to my strategy--this is the only thread in the Civ IV forum I have opened. ;)

Hey, congratulations Jonathan-great news :goodjob: . I just noticed the new COTM. Should be a cool way to take my mind off Civ4 for a while-plus I can take a short break from 'nuking Greeks until they Glow' ;) :mischief: :nuke: .

Aussie_Lurker.

I have a good idea, you can play rise of nations and pretend it's civ 4 because there almost identical.

Hygro,

I hope you wiped them out for me as well, Hygro!?!? ;) I had the same unpleasant encounter... I'm so glad a new COTM came up! And I've been on vacation, so my mind was occupied otherwise. Back home, my civ IV anticipation just reached new tops again.... Sorry for being slightly [offtopic] :D

Eh no I don't play any OTM games, Stilgar. I've been too focused with other stuff--see my first post in this thread.

If you drink enough alcohol and do enough drugs, maybe engage in enough casual "relations", you'll forget all about Civ, I promise!

Moderator Action: Please keep the discussion appropriate.

I save all the civ4 images on my computer to look at them when I want, or use them as my desktop pic!

If I'm not playing Civ, I'm editing civ. If I'm not editing civ, I'm here downloading things for civ. If I'm not downloading things for civ, I'm on these forums about civ. If I'm not on these forums, I'm writing on pen and paper civ stats, etc.! The only other places I go are when I've been dragged out of my house by familly/freinds!! And even then Civ is ALWAYS in my mind!!

I think you meant that for me, instead of Hygro. :)

Absolutely, I wiped out those pesky "sneak attack" Germans for you, too! Vicarious vengeance is yours! Come to think of it, I wiped out the Spanish, French, and Sumerians, as well. ;)

I have another Idea, stop posting on this forum and the upcoming game won't seem as anticipating.

If you guys are waking up every morning anxiously ticking off your calendar until the release on the 15th of November for THE game you might want to check-out this web for the next 120 days ... it's a completely overhauled CTP2 mod called Ages of Man by Stancarp which is more like an expansion pack with new gameplay features you've only dreamed of in a civ game:

http://www.theagesofman.net/about.html

Pdf read me: http://www.theagesofman.net/readme_final.pdf

If CTP2 was a medicore game (5/10) compared to Civ II (8/10) or Civ III (9/10), this MOD raises the yardstick to an impressive 8/10 for CTP2. Guaranteed to stop you drooling for the next three months.

Highly recommended and it's free. ;)

You can download it from Apolyton (albeit you need the original CTP2 game to play it):

http://apolyton.net/

This thread is funny - cause its true. I've got all the same symptons. I hope I don't fail UNI cause I spend all my study time looking up civ news...

In the mean time I am getting into my first COTM game, and MTDG.

For waiting long periods, Civ IV is nothing compared to stuff I am involved in. Here is some of the stuff I am involved in:

Here is a online game that fans have been waiting over a year (myself including) to play, and we still are not shure when it will come out:
Pirates of the Burning Sea Main Sight: http://www.burningsea.com/
Pirates of the Burning Sea Community Websight: http://www.burningseacommunity.com/

Another Pirate related sight it Pirates Ahoy! There are several games that they are waiting for including Age of Sail and Captain Blood: http://www.piratesahoy.net/

For pirate fans and fans of Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl, There are a lot of sights waiting for the sequals. They are filming 2 sequals at the same time right now. The first one is supposedly suppose to come out in July of 2006.
Here is the Pirate Ahoy Thread: http://forum.piratesahoy.net/index.php?showtopic=5157
Here is a good sight just for the sequal who have been tracking the sequals since 2003! and really picked up in Decemeber 2004/January 2005: http://filmforce.ign.com/objects/570/570328.html

Now these games and guys are real fanatics and fans. Just think of how they think (you can tell now what kind of people I hang around with online).

I remember going though this when Civ III was about to come out, but now I'm about to start college :D, so that might distract me.... well, maybe a little bit ;)

Pirates of the Burning Sea?

The game looks cool and the graphics are awesome. Is it similar to Pirates of the Caribbean? If so Iam interested coz I liked Pirates of the Caribbean (more than Sid Meier Pirates) and it was fun.

It is far more advanced that Pirates of the Caribbean. I would say it is not a lot like Pirates of the Caribbean, but is similar with a lot of historical accuracy. It is a internet only game. You might want to read more on that sight.
