T_McC03 - Guns and Bowses (Vanilla C4, Emperor)

OK I guess everything is done but the fat lady singing. I will continue taking out Cy. I am going to raze cities that will be enveloped by Salidins culture. We are @ 40% land area and Toku is next with 24%. This will give us plenty as Cy's cities have not been factored in yet. Note we are Number 1 in every catagory but soldiers and this honor goes to guess who?? Toku, what a surprise. Stop frigate and disband the one I see.

1802: Fascism is in and I went with Communism. Industry is like 23 turns away and I'm not sure what marines are good foron Pangea. They counter arty but Toku and Cy will not have arty. State property OTOH could net some major cash. Might also build some workshops and watermills for production. I revolt immediately to Police State. I see cat-arty upgrades are a bit expensive. No point as cats are still useful.

1804: Moving

1806: Step next to Parsagrad and it has 5 rifles and 2 cannon. I brought too much firepower. 11 infantry 2 rifles. I bypassed Arebela for now as it will be surrounded by Sal's culture. I notice Toku is at war with Sal. I don;t know when this happened. Very nice.

1808: Bomb down Parsa and go in with CR2 arty. First on looses at 28%. Second also looses but at 70%. Infantry clean up without loss.

1810: Orleans Revolts. Open boarders with Toku for scouting purposes. Should have done this sooner. Scouting shows his Big SoD is on the Eastern front in Kagoshima. On our side he has some cats and knights plus the standard number of rifles in each city. Nothing we can't handle.

1812: Communism in and I revolt to state property. nets us about 75gpt.

1814: Start electricity but turn off research. We might as well get $$ to upgrade everything we have before the final push. Wow Sal's culture is huge. It looks like he's going for a cultural victory.

1816-18: Marching Marching. Split into 2 groups and move on Cy's last 2 cities.

1820: Susa is burned to the ground. Arbela is a 0.1 HP rifle from burning. Loose 1 arty in the process.

I have been building almost nothing but troops. Infantry and arty. Next player will note I have workers scouting out Toku. I leave them so you can see the landscape. He now has cannon. His big stack is in the east and he will probably come after Parsagade which will be in resistance for 6 more turns. You might wait for it to come out before declaring so he can't strike from his or neutral territory. I have been putting troops into tarsus and Cuzco for a 2pronged attack in the west. I assume he will go for Parsagrade with his big stacks in the east. We can start taking cities from the west while he is occupied.

well good luck I certainly don;t expect to see this again. Very good game and surprising easy varient.

I bribed him for Nationalism :)
I actially noticed that Toky make a good friend, if you good with him (And at that moment we were in free religion and Merkantenilism and with +4 fair trade bonus) he really put weigth if you bribe him to attack someone.

On practicall comments.

I do not believe we benefit from state property.
We have wery little of workshops or watermills.
On other hand open border with Toky give him a huge trade income with our cities.

It will not chang eresult, but facing cavalery insted of knigth will be an annoynce.

got it, are we allowed to get a permanent alliance to win the game?

Another one who's getting addicted to the PA.
PAs + vassal states will be the new addiction. ;)

save

ok Cyrus will be gone next turn

took them out at turn one, then decide to take out France first
got a GS which helped with electricity as it did not matter much anyway
Orleans went into revolt again good timing to take out Huamanga
taking out that 1 tile Island was a nightmare we lose 6 units doing so
on turn 8 took French out and immediately declared on Toku
march towards Nagoya and Tiwanaku, waiting for the response first

Japan's counter on the first IT is non existed except for a cannon attack that is futile
climb next to Nagoya and it's only defended by 3 rifles

suffer some losses at Cori when Toku attacks with knights and cannons
turn 10 take Tiwanaku, take Nagoya without losses purely with arty

units are sourounding Pasergadea including a stack of 13 units, start to mop them up (23 unit total there)
in the end none of the 23 units are left and our troops get good promotional value here
but in the background there are more cannoncs coming.
Next player to decide on proper tactic to take out Japan

shouldn't be an issue to win here, we currently have 51% of the land

oh, and Tatran, I don't think I like a permanent alliance as the AI is crap and only causes more trouble

Guess, you haven't tried vassals states yet.
This feature really can screw up things.I still have to see a friendly backstab.
PAs are a game saver,but I'm more a manipulator than a warmonger.

Mutineer already knows this, but check our deals with Sal. He is getting way too much help from us. He is trading us at least one resource that we've since captured in our wars. He is also deriving at least 5X the trade benefits from Open Borders as we are.

Agreed that we are in mop-up mode, although it will take a few turns to haul our move-1 units around Toku's land and wait for enough cities to come out of resistance.

Actually, just thought of something: We already have a few Galleons, maybe we should build a few more and sail a portion of our army up to the N edge of Toku's territory. That might speed things up a bit. And if we happen to have to kill HC on the way ...

Not sure why we researching rokerry. Industrialism will open the last unit we can build, Marines.
Darn, Toky field a lots of cannons, Marines have bonus agains them.

whatever Toku has is absolutely no match for our combo of inf/arty. I went for rockerty as it opens up SAM's which according to the display also require no resources. Thought of going after that. It doesn't matter really anyway.

Nothing mach to say exept we are finishing Toky, our armies converging on all his remaning cities.
We did finished Capac.
We lost 1 (or maybe 2 cities) to revolt to Saladin.
It does not matter as we allmost won.
Next person will have an honor of finishing this game.

As it turned out, building both National and Heroic epic in our capital worked well despite how bad the combo sounds, they were very powerful in the midgame producing several GS and giving us a military production centre in the most strategic location possible. All the other national wonders except FP were pretty much irrelevant to the result of the game by the time they were built.

And here's the foregone conclusion:

Who had 5 turns in the pool? Score was ~60K, the penultimate save is attached. Just hit enter and we go over the limit when a city comes out of resistance.

This was much easier than I thought it would be. We sort of cheated by having the resources anyway, but the only use we got from them was Rails, and that only served to reduce the tedium of mop-up.

Saladin actually built Apollo in this turnset, but it was still going to be a long time before he launched.

Nice game all, thanks. I'm impressed with how resilient civ 4 actually is, you can play without all sorts of things and still win comfortably through applying similar principles.

:goodjob: with this team it was sort of expected

remember I got scolding for building the HE in our capital. But I also thought it's a great central location and it can produce a lot opf troops

Congratulation team.

Heroic in capital work good enogth, but I still think it was better to build it in Madrid and pair with Iron works or West point. We did not try to get Mil trad simply because there was no mach point. In that case we would had be able to run more specialists in capital longer. But probably on that stage we were allready in winning shape.
