Tactics is where it's at.

Here's one of my favorite tactics.

Moved to strategy & tips.

I kind of want to make a warmongering article, but I'm not ready yet :(. Obsolete would be mad at the quality if I posted it with my n00b powerz I currently possess.

Remember strategy is the larger picture. Like building more cities to produce more troops.

Tactics are smaller scale, but still kind of like strategies, like using your axemen to attack other peoples cities to add them to your city.

Remember, cities can make more troops. If you have more cities, you can build more troops at a time. LIke if you had two cities, thats two whole axemen, instead of one!

Remember to not confuse the two, only settlers can make cities and axemen to take them. Don't use your settlers to attack.

I hope this has contributed to this incredibly useful strategy article.

I encourage you to post an article. Heck, I post all the time and have no clue what I am doing. There are some very skilled players on this forum, that will give great feedback and then everyone benefits. Remember that there is no ONE right way to do everything. My axe rushes usually take place with macemen/trebs/pikes/longbows.

[Game] tactic,= short term manouver(s) aimed at long term goals!(Game) befriend one and have another attack him...nuf said.

Not even comedy is Obsolete. Very funy post,1,714 posts. I wonder how many were cynical? Is it that you just like typeing or knocking others. Do you use tactics in the game? About what is your win los ratio?

Perhaps the tactic is to draft a bunch of macemen with the intent of using these and any older units as an advance attack stack- a stack that is outdated and somewhat doomed- but in the meantime you are building your real attack stack comprised of more modern units.
The tactic would be to get the enemy to use up catapults /cannons and cavalry on the "disorganized" stack.
I am not a historian however, and get all my information from the jerry springer show. (and lol to TheRealCzar post)

I thought tactics were small sweets? Or is that tic-tacs?

Those are a good tactic against bad breath.

I might add that I hear the tick-tock of the clock that counts the time to the death of this expert thread.

Tick-tock
Tick-tock
Tick-tock

After a while, I start seeing tactics in my sleep. I know kung fu! I pwnz Sun Tzu! Hax0rr!!1

First of all, the reason for those 1714 posts is due to all the walkthroughs, where I try hard to remove false theories that have been going around too long in the community. I like to REMOVE misinformation if you will.

Second of all, my win/loss ratio is in the black for everything but deity. If you happen to beat 50% of the games on that level, then I’m sure we would all be dying to learn from what you have to say, even if it is as weak as the posts you have made so far.

In any case, the Strategy Essay side of the forum is for exactly that, strategy ESSAYS. What you posted originally was just a paragraph which had basically no facts to it at all regarding the game of Civ. Now, we are not asking for a 20 page report of empirical data tables, but we do expect something of quality. This means, something which contains useful information. In other words, something which can stand on its own, and gives a fact(s) that benefits the player, or at least gives them some insight. And it still must be able to defend itself in an argument.

If we allowed just anyone to just post vague paragraphs in the essay section, then it would become an even worse mess that it is already becoming.

Note: While telling someone to read Rommel’s biography on tank-war in the desert may give a Civ player some information on something historically, by no means does this sort of info mean they will gain an advantage with Bismark/Frederick, or somehow use their UU better. In fact, they have as much a chance as using the UU even worse.

What would be a game tactic, by the way this is a stratagy, make lots of SSS,hide, build, when they come, you know they will, hope you got the bigger guns? That sir is grand stratagy. Tactics are what leads to them and keeps the enemy off your back while you build an empire out of (dare I say tactical field stratagys?)

I just farted.

Here's a tactic that I've had a ton of success with: when you're setting up a game you're about to play and get to the screen where you choose your difficulty, instead of trying to beat the game on some super hard level, just pick chieftain. You can usually get settlers and workers out of goodie huts, the AI automatically like you, you start out with a few more techs, it's sweet. Also, I've noticed that if you can get modern armors before the enemy has gunpowder, you don't have to send nearly as many troops. Modern armors eat shaka's impis for breakfast, and take a relatively low amount of damage. Plus, on chieftain no one can make fun of you, because it's not like you're playing on settler

I bow down to the mighty Obsolete Emperor. His knowladge is (must be ) vast. He who goes around removing, critasizeing, suggesting articales should meat his criteria, being able to stand up to argument-(abit hostile.) Try this for us little people, please. A few game tactics by your book-just a few.

About what is your win los ratio?

Win/loss ratio is no display of skill level or adequate use of tactics. All win/loss ratio shows is how good you are at whoring the AWP in Counterstrike.

(and lol to TheRealCzar post)

Always nice to be appreciated. :goodjob:

Surely this is a criteria that should be applied to all your "tactics"? If it doesn't stand on its own, its value is moot.

I could never work out my win loss ratio, I get div/0 error

I guess flattery is also a tactic...

Not to mention eating tic-tac.

TIC-TAC FTW!

EarthGod, if you had really posted something useful about win/loss ratios I bet you would have not got this kind of flak. But you posted a half baked paragraph of badly formatted and somehow uncompreensible vague talk about using tactics.... that is not a article: it would not be even good for the abstract of a article.

Now if you want to post something useful instead of counter flaking ....

First time EVER I´m seeing an article rated 1 star... ...just couldn´t resist, red it through and people, come on, this is brilliant, REALLY funny and entertaining:lol:, hope this goes on for quite a while:goodjob:

And I´m pretty confident that my contribution contains about the same ammout of strategy as the whole thread so far:crazyeye:

Sigh.

Strategy = beelining BW and axe-rushing Shaka.

Tactics = parking your SOD on a forested hill instead of a plain.

Writing that "article" and then saying Obsolete is no good at playing Civ IV = using your starting settler to hunt for barbs.
