Tanelorn's Fleet

That would awesome! Thank you!

You know, it would be fascinating to replicate a single naval battle over a small region on a large map. Rather than thinking strategically to use these mighty ships to conquer the world, just using them to fight some famous battle that took place where you only have twenty 30 minute turns to deploy and attack and evade.

Using the submarine attribute, then each ship would have an effective ranged attack using their artillery and missiles and depth charges against submarines. Wouldn't that be thrilling?

Such a scenario would be ideal for multiplayer and instead of the huge amount of time to build infrastructure and taxes and technology to generate units, instead you start with powerful units and spend nearly all of the twenty turns fighting and manuevering to get in range.

As strong as the Japanese felt their Akabune was no match whatsoever against Korean ships of the time, plus their captains and admirals were superior. The Japanese might field better soldiers and have successfully invaded Korea, but were stymied by the Korean navy. That would also make for a fascinating naval battle or a a series of naval battles and trying in vain to establish a beachead.

Like Admiral Yi Sun-sin

See this famous battle.

He used Panokseon ships.

It just so happens that such a multiplayer scenario is under development, based on a famous WW2 naval battle. It should be released in the very near future!

More intense battles and less minutia please. Nothing is better than a nailbiter where you very well might lose because somehow the AI actually has adequate ships and soldiers. These ships are gorgeous and deserve to be utilized.

A quintissential naval film is Yamato (2005) in which the sailors are awestruck by the magnificent ship...which is doomed to be destroyed during WW2.

Coral Sea? Midway? The Bismarck incident? Or another one entirely?

@Cassius Critzer Here's a shot at the Atakabune and a fix to the Kynda. Looks kynda better. Kresta in the works.

Kresta I Cruiser (4 built) and its ASW version, the Kresta II (10 built).
During the Cuban missle crisis the USSR paid dearly for the weakness of its surface fleet. During the US naval blocade of Cuba the only Soviet naval vessels were non-nuclear subs, none of which avoided detection. The withdrawal from cuba marked the begining of the end to Khruschev's rule but not before he ordered 4 6000 ton Kresta I cruisers that carried less SSMs than the Kyndas but had many more SAMs and considerable ASW capabilities. The slightly lighter (5600 ton) and more numerous Kresta II class had more modern missles.
One of the latter- Admiral Isakov- rammed the HMS Glasgow in 1981.

Or the battle of Copenhagen perhaps?

I’ve never played “The Cruel Sea”. Perhaps it is time I should I do so.

The 9700 ton Kara class were "large anti-submarine warfare ship" gas turbine cruisers with enhanced anti air capability. Similar to US cruisers prior to the adoption of the Harpoon. Her anti-surface capabilities were extremely limited, but since they were outfited as command ships, they would be operating as part of groups. Seven were built, one was fitted with S300 missles, most were discarded by the late 90s, one is kept in reserve (Kerch) one is theoretically in service (Petropavlovsk).
The Kresta I, Kresta II and Kara family of classes share the same basic design, they are known as the project 1134, 1134A and 1134B in Soviet nomenclature.
@Cassius Critzer Do you want a Panokseon and Turtle ship too?

All the Soviet cruiser classes:

The Slava were the Soviet navy's newest class of cruisers, a well rounded warship in the 3 major areas of naval warfare. Despite that, their weapons and sensors are not as advanced as the nuclear powered Kirov battlecruisers. It is comparable in size and capabilities to the US Virginia class, over which it holds the advantage of more missile rounds and better self protection. Ten ships were originally planned. The three completed ships act as flagships for task forces. One more was 95% complete at the breakup of the Soviet Union and has been the object of much diplomatic drama between Russia and Ukraine.

I guess a blue water navy isn't Russia's strong suit...
.
The new Russian corvettes- Buyan, Steregushchy and Gremyashchiy- coming next

I'd like to ask a little bit a favour of @Tanelorn, @Broken_Erika, or anyone else still kicking around, or who may pop in, that's willing. I need a bunch of Cold War and Modern vehicles that I've been unable to find graphics for. These ARE for future scenarios I have planned, not current ones on the table, but I'd like to collect them while I have a good list of them and the big graphics designers currently have the time, energy, and general willingness to churn out graphics in significant number - which would not be something I could absolutely count on being the case when I get around to the scenarios I'll need these graphics. As with many such requests, I am not at all in a rush and can wait if necessary. What I need are:
SWISS ARMOURED VEHICLES

(WEST) GERMAN ARMOURED VEHICLES

As I said, there is absolutely no rush or pressure, and I would be greatly appreciative of any work done. I offer my supreme gratitude in advance to anyone willing to take any of these on. :)

And I put this on the wrong thread. I meant to put it on the Third World War thread. Oh, well. It's usually the same crowds posting and the same eras of graphics that appear on both, so it should be forgivable.

The Kilos were the latest Soviet diesel design, being significant departures from the (ww2 Uboat inspired) Tango/Foxtrot/Whiskey hulls, having teardrop hulls like contemporary european designs instead. Most carry short range anti-air missles as well. The original version of the vessels were designated Project 877- there is also a more advanced version equipped with improved sonars and SS-N-27 Sizzler launch capability, designated as Improved Kilo-class submarine in the West, and Project 636 in Russia.
  • Algeria: 2 Original Kilo, 4 Improved Kilo
  • People's Republic of China: 2 Original Kilo , 10 Improved Kilo
  • India: 10 Original Kilo designated as the Sindhughosh class , 1 sustained major casualty. The rest were upgaded with SS-N-27 Sizzler launch capability.
  • Poland: 1 Original Kilo the ORP Orzeł.
  • Iran: 3 Original Kilo
  • Romania: 1 Original Kilo, the Delfinul, in reserve since 1996.
  • Russia: 22 Original Kilo (2 decomissioned, 7+ in reserve), 6 Improved Kilo+ 6 Improved Kilo on order for the Pacific fleet to be delivered 2019-2021. It was to be replaced by the new Lada class, but since the Ladas proved a failure, they had to be redesigned and more Improved Kios were ordered as a stopgap
  • Vietnam: 6 Improved Kilo
@Patine I'd love to help but my plate is full with ships at the moment, besides, land vehicles are Erika's thing. Why don't you PM and ask her personally?
P.S. I will do the Brazilian ones if nobody steps up tho.

@Tanelorn Okay, I'll see if I can drag @Broken_Erika off the OT forums and possibly consider lending me a hand. Thanks, anyways, Tanelorn. :)

The Moskva-class pair of helicopter carriers were the first operational Soviet Navy helicopter carriers. They wrere capable of deploying 18 Ka25 Hormone helicopters for ASW purposes but they never operated fixed wing aircraft -Moskva's deck was strengthened for that purpose and a Yak-38M took off and landed in 1972, however. Although the class had a potent long range anti-aircraft and ASW capability, its close defence weapons were poor and it was vulnerable to enemy missle attacks. These warships were also weak in anti-surface warfare. Most importantly their seagoing abilities in rough conditions were questionable. Leningrad was taken out of service in 1991 and scrapped by 1995. Moskva served up to 1997, when she was scrapped as well. A third ship of the class was cancelled.
