Tanelorn's Fleet

Tanelorn , your art with these big units in such a small size always takes my breath. Wonderful images!:hatsoff:

@Patine I really still don't know if you are trolling me or not. You are asking me for stuff and then nothing. Is this an actual request?
@Civinator Thank you, honestly. Ships are pure fun.

Edit of the British six ship Type 45 Daring class, gave it a taller radar mast and redid the prow.
A very capaple AAW design, build around the PAAMS AESA system, it is in many ways more advanced than the USN AEGIS in that role. It started as part of the Franco-Italian Horizon project but grew into its own thing. However it currently suffers from numerous shortfalls: severely unreliable propulsion, electrical failures, excessive noise by design flaw, lack of anti-balistic capability, limited ASW options as it even lacks a sonar (helicopters only) and generally poor construction. Anti-ship Harpoon weapons have been fitted to only two of the ships by 2018 and though there is provision for cruise missles, none have been fitted as well. It is very much a project in development, still.

I love the looks of it, like the dreadnaughts of old somehow. It exhudes power.

@Tanelorn I'll admit, it's half-and-half. I would like to see the swamp boat, but it's not a huge priority. The Minnow, however, is a joke... :p

Starting with the (Bolivarian) navy of Venezuela. They do operate a number of more modern Spanish corvettes, and had US WW2 vintage Sumner DDs and (Fairline's) Flower DEs on their roster.

USN interwar destroyer classes. The Brazilian Marcilio Diaz class was based on the Mahans. The Gridleys were scaled down in accord with the London naval treaty standard tonnage requirements, giving them a trial speed of 42.8 knots, the the highest ever recorded for a USN destroyer (can't catch Le Fantasque though). One of the Bensons was transferred to Italy and two were transferred to Taiwan in the 1950s. The Gleaveses are often called the Livemore class in WW2 sources. The Bristol class is a repeat of the Gleaves. Eleven ships of the Gleaves class were transferred to foreign navies 1949-1959; two to Greece (Niki and Doxa), four to Turkey, one to Italy, two to Taiwan, and two to Japan.
The WWI flush-deck Wickes/Clemson classes can be found in Fairlines latest US compilation, btw.

Isn't Bronstein Lev Trotsky's birth last name (as opposed to his nom de guerre)? I sense covert Entryist tactics into the USN... :P

tanelorn-type-052-destroyer-png.494514

Chinese Type 052 Luhu class destroyer (two ships), an outcome of the 1980s Sino-American detente prior to the 1989 Tienanmen massacre. It has US engines, Italian sonar, French radars and Crotale missle copies etc. All these diverse systems were not properly integrated and before the 2011 upgrade the Luhu's operational value was questionable. And its looks aren't a merit, things are where they shouldn't be, the design is all over the place.

@Patine That would be something, considering they too ended up in Mexico.
To do list: Type 051B Luhai DD (Senzhen),Type 051C Luzhou DD (Shenyang), Type 052B Luyang I DD (Guangzhou), Type 052C Luyang II DD (Lanzhou), Type 052D Luyang III (Kunming) Type 054A Jiangkai II FF, Type 054 Jiangkai I (Ma'anshan) FF, Type 053H3 Jiangwei II FF, Type 053H2G Jiangwei I FF

In many ways an enlarged version of the Type 052 Luhu above, it pioneered a lot of new weapons and technologies that actually worked, including stealth, but crucially no VLS missle launch capability. The PLAN was therefore unsatisfied with the design and no further ships of the class were built, other than the Shenzhen. As a result, the decision was taken to import two pairs of improved Sovremennyy-class destroyer from Russia as a stopgap in the AA role, where the PLAN was severely lacking at the time. However, it is the first Chinese naval ship to be equipped with fleet formation CnC system so it can act as a flagship of the fleet, unlike any previous indigenous ship or the Russian imports, making it indispensible. VLS capability and lots of important upgrades were added in a 2015 refit.

The ship uses the hull design of the Type 051B Luhai class above, equipped with the Russian S-300FM air defence missiles systems. Currently, two ships of this class have been deployed by PLAN Navy North Sea Fleet. It lacks the stealthier design and gas turbine propulsion of newer Chinese destroyers. However its SAM system is more capable than that of the newer Type 052B destroyer. Production of this class stopped once the more advanced Type 052C destroyer became available.

This class features a stealthy hull and significantly improved air defence systems, being the first Chinese-built warship capable of area air defence. When domestic systems could not be ready in time for Type 051B destroyer above, China was forced to purchase two pairs of Sovremennyy-class destroyer from Russia. As a result, the pair of Type 052B were built with considerable Russian technology, including the SA-N-12 Grizzly missle.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Type_052C_destroyer
The Type 052C uses the same hull and propulsion as the preceding Type 052B destroyer and features a four array phased array radar for 360-degree coverage, combined with VLS HHQ-9 long-range AA missiles (similar to the Russian S-300V). The six Type 052C are the first PLA warships to have true long-range fleet air defence capability. The Type 052C uses predominantly Chinese systems, with the exception of a few sensors :mischief:. The ships' propulsion is of CODOG setup, Ukrainian gas turbines, licance built in the PRC.

Altogether out of 28 planned, seven vessels of this class are now fitting out or under construction, four vessels are on sea trial and six vessels are active. They incorporate a new AESA radar, more VLS cells that can launch CJ-10 land-attack cruise missiles and better stealth features. It has been dubbed the Chinese AEGIS.

Back to the 90's.The Jiangwei I's were later variants of the Type 053 frigate family, and were the PLAN's first multi-role frigates. They sport a helicopter hangar for a Hatbin Z9 Eurocopter AS365 Dauphin copy. The class was superseded by the more capable HQ-7 equipped Type 053H3 Jiangwei II class. The Jiangwei I's indigenous HQ61 short range SAMs were later replaced with HQ-7 French Crotale copies. All 4 vessels are currently serving as coastguard cutters.
Check the previous page for PLAN destroyers.

Ten Type 053H3 Jiangwei II, a slightly larger and heavier armed version of the Jiangwei I were produced between 1996 and 2005. Another three were exported to Pakistan as the Zulfiquar class and a fourth one was built in Karachi.
