Team Sirius

Hi!

I am a Prince/Monarch level single player, and I have no experience with Multi-player or Democracy games, but this looks both fun and a good way to learn things.

I'd like to sign up, please.

Can I be in it? My strategy is like this: After making two warriors and a worker, settle a city
If iron or copper shows up, make an army and declare war on your worst enemy. If not, be patient.
Settle along the coast and/or cross the continent, preventing other civilizations to expand.
Try to build the apostolic Palace with the most famous religion.
Rest, depends. My difficulty I usually use is Warlord or Noble. I have won some Monarch and harder difficulties, but I took a break from the game, because of addiction, and lost my cool. I have been doing better, though.

----->>>>>> The only good time to seize the day is when your rights are being taken away.

I also have a question: Will we like, make agreements on like Peace Treaties and compromises?

Sure, welcome both of you to Team Sirius! :)

Generally in Civ4 you have to take the start you get and work from there. You can't really apply a general strategy plan to every single game, because every game is different - different resources around you, different lay of the land, different neighbours, and distances between neighbours vary too, amongst other things. Plus of course, not every leader should be played the same way. :)

Although building Workers and Settlers early on is always a good idea, so I expect we'll be doing some of that regardless. ;)

I also have a question: Will we like, make agreements on like Peace Treaties and compromises?
We'll make all kinds of agreements as the game progresses, I'm sure. These games are known for their heavy diplomatic element, so no doubt we (and all the other teams) will be negotiating deals at some stage. :)

By the way, you can make a signature by going to "My Account" (near the top left of the page), then clicking "Edit Signature". Then you don't need to write in your signature manually with every post. ;)

Ok, thx a lot lord Parkin!

Wouldn't it be easier to like, have one team's members do their parts on their civilizations taking turns while the other teams wait by thinking of a strategy?

Actually all of the teams seem to have their share of well-known strong players, which is good to see. Amazon may have TMIT, but just at a quick glance, Mavericks have DMOC and Niklas, Quatronia has Earthling, Merlot has slaze, and CDZ seems to have almost nothing but well-established civvers. (No offense to anyone I missed out, I was just picking random examples. :) ) And not to toot our own horn, but I think we certainly have a few well-known strong players ourselves on Sirius. ;)

Anyway, it's good to see that no team should be at a disadvantage due to not having strong core player(s). The game should be more fun and balanced that way, with no inactive teams.
That's a good point Emporer Parkin. I believe that it depends on what the players DO, not what they ARE. I've seen some of TMIN, and wait they do sounds very confusing, even to an experienced player like me. Some players are like sleeper teams in College Basketball, they are good, but the other teams don't know that!

I don't quite understand what you're saying. Only one person per team can be logged into the game at the same time, so generally it's most efficient to get one person to play a whole turn at once (though different people can take turns at playing different turns if they want). Plus, we'll always be discussing strategy in our private forum in an ongoing fashion. I don't know if that's what you were asking, as your question was a bit confusing.

I don't know what you're referring to by "TMIN". Did you mean TMIT's videos on Civ4?

Have you played any multiplayer games before? If you haven't, you'll find that it's a whole different game, even if you're experienced at Noble-Monarch in single player. ;) But the great thing about a democracy game is that by working together and sharing ideas, we can often do much better as a team than in a regular game by ourselves. Every extra person chiming in on the discussions about what to do each turn adds a viewpoint that others might not have considered. :)

I'm grateful you named me as a "good player" on Quatronia though I'm sure the rest of my team is/will be great too... I do see things spread out well enough this game; last game on Cav we had an insane amount of people all sign up/flock to Cav who were into heavy micromanagement and "optimization" while I'm not sure all the other teams had so much activity, early on anyway. So I guess the various teams will see what they get this time.

Anyway, good luck to you all on team Sirius, we will someday meet each other be it under auspicious circumstances or not.

Indeed, the spread seems to be a bit more even this time around. Another team (Merlot) has sprung up since I made that post, but they've got some good players too, which is good to see. (EDIT: Actually I see I already mentioned them.) Hopefully this should make sure the teams are on relatively even ground from the beginning. :)

Anyway, good luck to you all on team Sirius, we will someday meet each other be it under auspicious circumstances or not.
Thanks, and I'm sure we'll look forward to meeting you formally in the game in a few months, regardless of the circumstances. :)

Thanks LP! I'm looking forward to this. Since I'm an MP newbie, I'm afraid I might be more of an observer/commenter at first, at least until I get the hang of things. I just wanted to try something like this before Civ5 comes out and I have to learn everything all over again. ;)

Yes Lord Parkin, I have seen some of TMIT on YouTube, and I was like what, um, what does that mean? Anyway, I need to know what time the whole thing starts, because I have school and all that, so I won't be available all the time.

Team discussions should begin by next week, as soon as the private forums are up. The game itself should begin sometime in early April.

Basically it doesn't really matter about the start date though, because the game will almost certainly be running for at least a year. During that period, everyone's likely to be away for at least some of the time, but other people will still be here. So I wouldn't worry about being here or not here - you're free to come and go as you please when you have the time. The team will still be here. :)

This seems like a sensible team. I am not as strong as others, only Noble on Rise of Mankind, but I'd like to learn and to listen. If I become stronger, I'd be willing to participate more actively as Sirius progresses through the games.

Welcome aboard, Altjung! :)

If you have questions for TMIT, you can PM him. Or post your questions on what's confusing you.

@HUSch: Parkin is a Kiwi.

Altjung, wellcome
You are german, look here

No, I live in California. At one time I read a lot of Carl Gustav Jung, but now I am rather older, thus the pairing of opposites, Altjung (whose avatar is a prophet).

Question: do we just follow this thread for now, until some kind of announcement of a private thread and/or the start of a practice game?

There isn't much to do on the team until we get a private place to discuss things. Although it shouldn't be that far away. Feel free to browse through some of the other threads while you're waiting if you want, or just keep an eye on this thread for the announcement of our private forum. :)
