Tech discovery voice overs

Your voice is very rich, but sounds a little forced - as if you are speaking in an accent or concentrating on modifying the tone. That could just be a little stress coming through. Either way that quality will probably mellow as you do more of them; it's very subtle as it is now. Overall I like the sound, and think you should continue with the project.

I agree with all others before me that your voice is very good. Great job! Maybe a bit too fast with the beginning of the sampled quote though?

Anyway, keep working on this, it's great :goodjob:

When you'll be done, would you mind voicing some quotes for Orbis' new techs? There's only a couple of them.

Pretty much what emptiness said. Its a good first take, but needs some either practice with that voice or some exploration of alternative readings.

Yeah, not relaxed enough.

Way, way too long. Just the first sentence would be OK.

The voice reminds me of Volothamp Geddarm from storm of Zehir.

That was my first thought too!

I have to say I liked it, and I expected quite the opposite. So while I think it would be cool to have some voiceover done by the actual team members, I would certainly download the FfH2 audio pack as done by scaramouche. :goodjob:

Yeah, it takes a bit of warm-up to really loosen the voice up and get the right feel for a particular read, so that'll get better as I start doing more of them and find the comfort zone.

Jet, I do agree that the quotes are pretty long. What I will probably do is record a set of the full quotes. And then we can make a truncated set, essentially, with just the first line of each quote or something like that. Some of the quotes are even longer than the Agriculture one, so I'm sure there will be people looking for the short version.

Thank you for the encouraging comments, folks! I will officially start working on this! :)

And, Opera, once I'm done with FFH techs, happy to do Orbis.

I like it very much - reminds me of alpha centauri - I don't think the length is a problem. In Alpha Centauri there are much longer quotes. Also, if you click away the tech popup in civ4 the voice will vanish. speed is okay. the only words I personally don't like are "all" "far" and "superior" - too much pronouncation of the vocals imho. the rest is just perfect.

I will officially start working on this!
wonderful! :goodjob:

I haven't listened to the sample yet, but I think this is a cool idea. Maybe Kael will put it in the main mod.

As for comments, I can't say anything about how you sound since I haven't listened to the sample yet, but thinking about it, I'm just worried about the pronunciation. I'm a little OCD when it comes to pronunciation, and with all these strange words, it seems like it would be hard to get them all perfect. Not that we're expecting perfection ;).

This is great! My only suggestion is that in this sample the pitch in your voice seems to fluctuate quite a bit. It might sound better if you flattened it a bit.

The original tech quotes by Nimoy are no more than 10 seconds long (with a one second long ding at the start.)

i don't like that ding-noise at the start of the vanilla quotes and don't see the sense of it.
here's one tech voice from AC, just that you see, that length is okay :p
it's from Nietzsche so no copy right law was broken by posting that one lol

The sample was very good, maybe even great. I do agree that from a gameplay perspective I'd prefer shorter quotations though. I hate it in base Civ when I trade for 4 cheap techs and Nimoy goes nuts speaking over himself.

Where are you from scaramouche? This might be my imagination, but it sounds to me as though you learned English as a second language with a British accent.
