Tech strategy?

Just curious what techs everyone goes after at the start of the game. No matter what I do, I can't seem to beat the AI to writing, so I'm not real sure what techs to go after. Advice from the experts?

Well, a strategy that I use that I really like is, playing as Ethne the White of the Elohim, to do:

Mysticism -> Exploration -> Agriculture -> Festivals -> Crafting -> Mining -> Then the ones needed to found The Order (Code of Laws, Philosophy, and some others I think)

I almost always beeline for the tech that gives "subdue animal". Because those critters make great bonus buildings, but they disappear so fast!
