TF2 (split from screenshots thread)

Except the flare gun does no damage and if you're close enough to axetinguish you really should just burn them to death with your flamethrower.

So, in summary, pyro melee weapon = pointless (unless you're out of ammo (and therefore bad)) and flare gun = useless (you don't get kills with a flare gun unless they're really bad or you're killstealing).

Yeah, getting hits with the flare gun isn't the problem. :p

flaregun is great for its minibuff effect at long range, aiming with the thingy isn' that hard, and at 9v9's i usually roll pybro. With great success :D. THe flaregun isn't useless at all, it used to be useless without the minicrit buff, but now it's actually a threat.

What minicrit buff, I haven't used it since I got the achievements related to using it, which was ages ago.

they buffed it a few months ago, so you mnicrit damage on burning person with the flaregat. So if you hit someone and then again
you can two shot 125 hp classes and three shot medics

You guys underestimate the puff-poof-axe. Against soldiers, demos, and heavies it's the way to go. Alternatively, replace with flare-axe if you're a bit outside of range but have a complete jump on your prey.

You underestimate the power of the flamethrower. It's a freaking flamethrower.

Yeah, the flamethrower is powerful, but less powerful than a crit axe.

Because you suck with the axtinguisher.

Yet I've never been killed by someone using an Axetinguisher.

Why is this?

Because it's horribly inefficient compared to just burning them.

because most pyros dont understand.

on stronger classes (i.e. demoman, pyro, soldier, heavy), standard practice amongst skilled pyros (of which i am trying to become one) is to ignite them, airblast them into a wall or corner, and then chop while they are still in the air.

Soldiers and Heavies should (hypothetically) be able to kill you before you axetinguish them.

The axtinguisher is not supposed to be some kind of main weapon of d00m, it's there for pyros to set fire and kill someone. A weapon doesn't have to be uberly perfecto to be used. Most pyros (and probably most players) are not particularly skilled with most of the classes, and just because it can be easier to kill someone with just the flamethrower than practising with a combination of weapons/techniques doesn't mean anyone using it is somehow a lesser being.

yeah in theory they should. but even competitive soldiers struggle to keep any kinda aim when being airblasted. most heavies dont even notice they are on fire.

The only time the Axetinguisher is a worthwhile weapon is if you're working together with a teammate who is setting them on fire while you axetinguish them. The time spent switching weapons, and the fact that you can only axetinguish one enemy at a time, are massive factors against using it over just burning them.

Switching to the axetinguisher against a Soldier leaves you vulnerable to his rockets.

If a heavy doesn't notice they're on fire, they won't notice a backburner coming up behind them and completely destroying them.

Just because he has 6 minutes of frags playing like that doesn't mean it's superior. When you can rocket jump using the airblast, you obviously have some talent for computer games.

i think you kinda missed the point. the point is, the axtinguisher is a more viable tactic against good opposition. clearly he is some kinda gaming god, but nonetheless, i have tried some of these tactics with my pyro play over the past couple of weeks, my average score/ K.d ratio has improved immensely. obviously i still cant rocket jump, but i can now take out an un-overhealed heavy from any angle (not just from the back), and i can usually take out a soldier if we are in confined spaces (just airblast into a wall, and axe). i'm not saying its the only way to play (i still see the appeal of attaching the backburner and W+M1ing in some circumstances) but i am pretty sure that for me, it is a better way of playing than just flaming everyone you see.

oh and its 10 minutes not 6
