TF2 (split from screenshots thread)

Seems like most players don't realise that the shotguns can actually be pretty useful... I spam the shotty quite a bit as a Heavy/Pyro/Soldier, even though my accuracy sucks, the theory is sound for when you don't have time to reload / reach flaming range / spin up Sacha.
 
Flare Gun ist uber alles.
The Heavy Incinerator from Fallout 3's DLC Broken Steel can easely outclass the Flair Gun (And make the Pyro really REALLY happy). Sadly thats only in Fallout 3 and have to make do with the puny Flare Gun (though I did get some lucky kills with it).
 
I get as many kills with the shotgun as flamethrower when playing pyro (crits, RTDs and some lucky breaks aside).

Yeah I don't have time to learn to effectively use the flare gun when this way works so well
 
its not hard to beat shotgunning pyros, just run around a corner and then fight them at close range.
Then he's not using the flare gun to do it, hmm?

fine, thats true. but any pyro stupid enough to let himself be killed with the shotgun deserves to die. and the flare gun is *probably* superior against all other classes with the addition of mini crits, an of course the pyro's main weapon, the axstinguisher. On a side note, i finally completed the clearcutter achievement (get 6 kills in one life with the axe). only 4 to go :) but one of them is pyromancer :(

Flare gun + axtinguisher is kinda odd IMHO. You use the flare gun to get hits at long range, but you have to close in order to use the axtinguisher, which seems dubious to me.

Well, I rarely play as a pyro in the first place, so I suppose I am in no postion to give my opinion, but the few rare times I have played pyro, the flare gun doesn't seem to be of much use to me. It isn't at all useful against other pyros, and when I play spy, if I see a pyro with the flare gun, he is my first target for a backstab. The shotgun is better suited for long range than the flare gun in my opinion. If I want to set someone on fire I'll use the flamethrower.

It takes some practice, and the ability to be able to read a players next direction. i guess its kina like the syringe gun or the rocket launcher at long range in that respect. you have to know what to do with it. but it is extremely useful - the mini crits on flaming opponents make it easy to finish off flamed enemies as they run for health, and the ability to pump fire into the enemies ranks at long range is very useful.
