TGOMTG Conquest Class Challenge (C3C)

Well I was all ready to leave it back to you... Then my comp crashed... Had the save game but lost the log....

I started taking detailed notes at first, later not so... But for now from memory...

In turn 3 or so a couple of Cavs hit on the wounded army near Korea. I killed a couple of cavs with it. Lost maybe 4 hp, then the cavs came and killed the army and the cav...

1 turn later the Ottomans made peace with Korea... The war was bad for the Ottoman. There empire now is split.

Lost and took back one town on the island we share with babs.

I got a steal of the Ottoman, Replacable Parts. Did a large cannon upgrade.
Started building a lot of factories and some have finished. WDC as an example will now build cavs in 2 turns :)

I got nineveh and kept it, did not allow it to be captured again. Some nice buildings survived. Now I am at turn 9 of my set, and I find myself knocking on the capitol of Babylon. All but 1 defender I think are redlined, the artillery did its job and there is a small stack  of cavs and knight knocking on the door......
I did all the (rather tedious) worker moving/roading/mining/railing allready.
But now it is time to deside, how hurt do we want babylon to be? Do we take the capitol? Or leave it?

I did not want to make that decision, but wanted the group in on it... and leave the potential fun to Methos who can take a turn extra.

I think we are running a bit behind on techs tho...

To kill or not to kill? ....

Got it and will play tomorrow.

Haven't looked at the save so basing comments on namliaM's. If Korea manages to wipe out the Ottomans they'll have that whole continent to themselves, meaning they will be extremely powerful. IMO I wonder if we should go ahead and take Babs palace as well as knock them back a notch just to keep up with Korea.

Granted, just remembered about the whole no-research thing so we kind of need the Babs in good spirits. Hmm, I'm not really for sure.

Got to concur on leaving the Babylonians something, but taking their capitol is not a bad idea, if we can hold it against their superior culture.

Looks like the Korrean Exfor fulfilled its job which was to get the Koreans and the Ottomans at peace, at least for a while, so bring them on home, then start building an invasion force for later.

Don't sweat the tech pace. The whole world has been at war so the pace is snail like right now. Once peace breaks out that will change.

I'm going to have to ask for a skip. Too many SG's in one night I believe has caused me to lose all interest in playing tonight. Tomorrow is entirely out of the question as I get off work at 7 am and have to be back in at 3:30 pm. So tomorrow is nil for everything.

This game has sat dormant for way too long for me to ask for it to be held up again so hopefully someone else can keep it moving. So please skip me this time around.

Thanks for the heads up, Methos.

SW, you are up.

sorry about delay, but RL bit me hard this weekend.

pre turn, well, i thought id get our peace with persia now, but i hate breaking alliances
so ill just take out the furs and capital, then sign peace.
i also spend some on upgrading rifles to grunts.

i also fire some cops, getting engineers in thier place. shave of 1-3 turns on civilian builds.
those are size 12 already, so slower growth is ok, if i can get things done quicker.

kill off a random bab or two.

IBT- lose a loose LB. (which killed and Inf last turn), DOrtmund seems to be heavily attacked (3 cavs, 1 knight, 1 LB, 1 inf)

1- Frankfurt aqua > court, Eridu bank > factory, Nurenberg harbor > court, Deroit cav > coal plant, Memphis court > bank,
the Babylon plunge is going miserably. artillery only redlined 2 defenders, the rest are 3+ hp in a metro. we wait.
Zamia is ours flawlessly (its the small town up north)
cut lots of jungles.
minor battles, including bombings at Dortmund and killing a cav.

IBT- Korea and PERSIA sign a MPP.
Dortmund loses 2 rifles but holds.

2- WDC cav > inf, Agade cav > cav, Atlanta factory > cav, Zohak factory > cav, Houston court > bank, Clevland worker > aqua, Portland court > Market,
somehow i triggered to Korean - Babylonian MPP. and i was planning on stealing the Corp from them. how obliging.
then i see i cant steal - DARN!!!
so i will buy it for cash from the Ottomans. the enemy of my enemy is my friend sort of thing.
i pay 2250 (cheaper than a careful steal, too)
change some money makers into Stocks.

IBT- the babs snag a few workers by a devious sneak attack.

3- Ur police > stock, NY police > stock, Dallas factory > stock, New orleans factory > stock, Pheonix court > artie,

AND Korea declares on the Ottomans.
AND Babylon just got Scientific Method (do we want to steal it and build ToE?)

NO UNITS WERE MOVED YET THIS TURN, just build orders given.

save it now, as i need to get on with some RL, i will try to pick it up again tomorrow, but if anyone wants it, feel free.

I got it I got it.

I have assigned reading for everyone:

TGOMTG's War Academy Article on Specialists

Using the specialists is not a cookie cutter approach and the application varies by government type, a topic I did not cover in detail in the article.

In a Communist government the most useful specialist is the policeman. They recover base commerce and base production which then feed into the multiplier buildings: markets, banks, stock exchanges, factories and power plants.

Civil Engineers are less useful than policeman as they cost more and deliver a smaller benefit in most towns. If a town is shield poor but food amd commerce rich a CE can be used to build a commerce mulitplier cost effectively. Once a multiplier building like afactory and power plant is in place use a cop instead.

Once hospitals are built put everybody at work in the fields and use the overpopulation as policeman. In towns without hospitals you need to be careful as applying a policeman may end up costing more than is gained, unless she is used to control happiness.

That is the other major benefit of the specialist. Specialists never leave their desks to join in riots, so when happiness is a problem then use policeman first (the additional gold may take care of the happiness all by itself).

I am a red icon Nazi: I hate 'em and will do everything I can to eliminate them. Use the specialists to fine tune the output of a town. One cop can often recover enough shields to finish that infantry man with little or no waste from overrun while keeping the population of a 12+ town content.

So endeth the lesson.

We have entered the end game and the tech logjam has finally broken. Korea was briefly at peace with Persia than Persia and Ottoman signed an MPP and Korea is now at war with Persia again. But during that brief period Korea was willing to entertain our envoys. Wang agreed to peace and included Espionage (his monopoly at the time) at a pretty decent discount (53gpt instead of over 1800 in beaker cost).

The SPHQ is building in Detroit and the Intelligence Agency in Agade. As soon as they finish go ahead and plant spies and Refining will be up for grabs.

The Ottoman Empire is taking it on the chin, still. So I shipped luxes and rubber for a token payment and horses, iron, saltpeter and coal as a gift.
If it looks like Osman is going down the tube (keep a close eye on the map) give him a city in our interior that is protected from the bogies.( There is one on the island to the west that fits that bill).

Otherwise I trained troops and built finished factories, coal plants and banks and stock exchanges. Founded a couple of towns in old Babylon.

Oh, the war with Hammirabi, there is a war on? Yeah there is.

Captured Babylon but only kept it long enough to check the "cultural conversion" risk and its infrastructure. Then moved the workers captured and the victorious cavalryman out to join the rest of the stack. Moved a settler with infantry escort into place on the furs, waited for the Babylonians to retake the town, then klled the four troops they put in the garrison, captured the city again, this time burned it to the ground, then built Foxfire for the furs, and moved everybody into there.

The next project was the town N of the Babylon rubble on the iron hill. Walked the troops and artillery up the mountain range with combat engineers (slaves) building roads as they went. Captured the town, took no losses, burned it to the ground and put a waiting settler on the rubble.

The worker army is laagered up near Detroit (split into natives and slaves)looking for things to do and tying their shoelaces and spitting. There are workers out building mines in the mountains and improving the fields in old Babylon and I added natives into the new towns as properly improved fields came open.

Keep propping up Osman, don't bother with the Babs anymore. Stay inside our borders, and pick off their troops until the alliance with X-man ends then end the war. I did re-up the alliance as I wanted to have gpt deals available from X-man, but nothing of any note came up.

You missed all the fun with Hammi, SW.

I have split the inactive workers into groups that will clean pollution in 1 turn on "flat" tiles. Also I did not create one single unit (but for the ones allready planned). I just did buildings....

Looking good. Nice call on the building projects.

Pull settlers from the north and NW towns to fill the empty land, rather than using culture. Build them CxxC or even tighter if the ground allows. All you need is 12 food from three citizens, and everybody else collects taxes. With that kind of citizen allocation you don't even need happy buildings. The Modern Era techs needed for the SS are expensive to buy (though cheaper to steal) and we will need gobs of cash soon.

I would use the leader for Wall Street, I think. Or we could start stockpiling leaders for SS parts.

namliaM - did us up bright and shiny.

Just looked at the save and I have a few questions before I start playing.

-Since our goal is space I'm assuming we don't want to finish Babylon off? According to CAII both Babylon and Persia are up Fascism and Babylon is behind Espionage and the Corporation.
-To keep the Ottomans in the technology race I was thinking about taking several Babylon cities and gifting them to the Ottomans.
-Other than increasing our treasury what are our short-term goals?

We need to get spies in place and start buying or stealing our way forward to the Modern Era.

Diplomatically we need to get the wars over so the technology pace will pick up.

Putting a little pressure on Korea with one of the infantry armies will be useful to get them to make peace with Ottomans. The odds are good that Korea will declare if you try to plant a spy (1 in 2), then ally with Ottomans and start feeding Osman gpt through tech purchases. The stupid git is trying to enlarge his empire by warfare with the Babylonians. If we lighten up the pressure from Korea with a diversionary force over there that may change his strategy.
