TGOMTG Conquest Class Challenge (C3C)

Yes, I believe we are. The thing is with the variant of 'no research' it makes a space victory more challenging. It also allows us to better learn the aspects of tech stealing and spying. In truth until this game I don't believe I have ever stole a tech before.

Steal? Spy? Thats dishonorable, I never did anything like it either....
And we will probably need to
1) Time the building of parts
2) Sabotage the building of parts (Again Never did that before)
3) Protect little civs (ottomans)

AAAAARGH...

3) Protect little civs (ottomans)

This is the one thing that seems odd to me. I'm not used to protecting smaller civs for the purpose that we are using. In truth its rather interesting playing with this variant.

I've also never used #2 either so that will definitely be interesting to learn.

Now hopefully I can get some free time to play later on today.

Edit: Also never really paid much attention to the different type of specialist citizens until this game.

yeah, this game teached me, and my guess is you too, loads of things.
me wants bloooood.
feed me, seymour, FEED ME!!!!*

*noises heard through the window of bottles rolling on the floor, glasses clicking and shots swigged.

I love it when the lights come on.

There are two parts to the game: building the victory condition and manipulating the AI to help you get there. (Note: The Ottomans are only useful to us so long as they keep up in the tech race. They will start to fall behind soon so we can just kiss them goodbye so long as we don't owe them anything.)

And yes we are stalling on domination/conquest because I hate overseas warfare, especially before airplanes and transports.

:bump: Yo methos....

Uhm... I don't much mind the wait... I still have my spaceship attempt in COTM14. After not playing 13 I started on 14, but its slooooooow going... Actually my first spaceship ever.

Think I may try a culture win on 15... :)

My apologies. My wife and I are both on vacation this week and we planned to spend the first couple of days close-by. I figured I would have plenty of time to play my turns but we've been very active lately. I will try and finish my turns tonight. If not I will post what I have done before I go to bed to keep the game moving. My apologies, I didn't realize we would be so active.

BTW, from Thursday until Sunday we will be out-of-state visiting family. At that point we won't have any internet access.

I'll post my turns later tonight, no matter how far I am into them.

@namliaM,

you picked an interesting victory condition for COTM14. I made the same choice. Be interesting to see how yours turns out.

Pre-Turn: Attempt to adjust a few cities to taxmen to get a little more cash. I also went through and changed all cultural builds and hospitals to either Stock Exchanges or Police Stations. I tried to give the Ottomans gpt for the deals but they wouldn’t do it. I forgot we have lost our rep.

Ottomans: We get Refining and Steel; we give World Map and 6,583 gold.

IT: Persia and Babylon sign peace, breaking our alliance.

1752 AD: Sign peace with Babylon, they give us Nimrud, Zarquim, and 32 gold. Fortified McArthur in WDC. I gift the Ottomans Oil since we have a spare.

Okay, I stopped here due to the stupid AI. The Persians just talked the Ottomans into signing a MA versus Korea. In other words if we don’t do something they’re toast. Rather than just declare on Korea I would instead attempt to plant a spy in Korea. If it fails we go to war. If it succeeds than we declare on them. Works either way.

Currently we’re back up to 15k in gold and making 1588 a turn. Basically what I did was only build courthouses, police stations, markets, banks, stock, and factories. If the city already had those I switched to wealth. Changed some terrain to water but not much.

Recall we have no rep so can’t pay the Ottomans gpt.

I believe I only played 4 or 5 turns but felt this was a good place to stop.

Oh yeah, I post something again tomorrow but my wife and I are heading to her grandfathers for the rest of the week so I won’t have access to the internet until sometime on Sunday. We’re leaving early Thursday morning.

Here's the save.

Again, I apologize for taking so long. I figured being on vacation I'd have more time but it hasn't worked out that way. Oh well, I'm still enjoying myself.

You can use gpt for deals or get cash for per turn goods if you have an alliance against a common enemy or you threaten the other nation with war if they don't take what's good for them. The threatening part only works every twenty turns though.

Just wanted to let everyone know that from Thursday (Aug. 28) until Sunday (Aug. 31) my wife and I will be out of state visiting family. I won’t have internet access nor civ availability until sometime late Sunday. Please skip me until than.

and we get to keep the RAX.
tgotg_sw1758ad_80.jpg
keep it for one more to even out the year count.

IBT-a persian cav kills a korean inf near our borders. it appears there are some straglers out there.

Sumer arty > arty, Ellipi police > inf, Agade army > army, Boston inf > inf, Zohak inf > inf,
Landed another SoD on the Koreans other ivory (might as well do a thorough job)
tgotg_sw1758ad_79.jpg
got defenders onto Iri (the captured korean town) and heavy attackers are due in very soon.

tried to not "GOTO" any ships, but double check.

Got it. Have to cancel the ToE build, no Great Wonders, remember?

Otherwise, nice landing. As long as we don't get a tusk up the toot.

yeah, well... :mischief: i was just testing you... yeah, thats what it was, just an ordinary test... yeah...

The threat to our hegemony is not military but cultural. If the Koreans continue on their present pace they will reach 100K at T515 while at the same time we will only be at 33360 at our current rate of cultural growth. So we need lots of happy gas buildings and some science structures. Ordered them up almost everywhere.

Then when they finished went back to building military, and coal plants and such. As long as we are making over 1500gpt, have zero unit support costs and technology is the less than 3000K (stolen or bought) then no need to build wealth. More troops, and more troops and more troops.

Well it is decision time gang. The world is at war again, Korea allied the Babylonians against us and the Persians declared on the Babylonians. Osman is holding his own. And the Korean Expedition is wrecking its way across Korea, burning and pillaging as it goes. But only one new tech has come up in ten turns, Refining, which I stole from Korea after three tries. The question is, do we go for conquest, or open our own reseach labs?

The tech pace has slowed to a crawl as there isn't anyone with the government form or the resources to devote to it. Korea's economy is gassed as his cities are weakly defended and counter attacks have been pitiful. There are 180 turns left and a bunch of expensive techs left to learn to get to Space and unless peace breaks out I don't see how the other guys are ever going to get there.

So think about it.

Anyway the events of the last twenty years were prety uneventful. Had to fight off a Korean landing on a rubber source (keep at least three boats handy for the shuttle to the western isles). Took the city of Sippar down by Nimrud then just ignored the Babylonians other than to plink at their invading infantry and kill three cavalry that had somehow survived the earlier wars. Hammi has been aiming his troops at our SW. Renewed the Korean alliance with X-man and kept the RoP in place.

The army in Korea has been holding the beachhead at Iri and the other force has been razing their way to Ottomanland, using artillery to wreck culture buildings before attacking the city. There is a good sized force outside of a size 20 town in the Korean interior, wreck it before assaulting and don't try to keep it. Taking down that city should put a pretty good crimp in the Korean Kultur Kurve which is now less than twice ours.

So, all out conquest, or open the research spigot, or see if we can bring about peace in our time?

well, i would like to keep the no sci variant.
if we open up the spigot, i think we have this won.

conquest seems like great AW training, so ill vote for it.
and our first target will be Korea...

[edit] why not turn this into a AW, No Sci?

which reminds me of my no sci, no trade "story". will tend to it tomorrow/

Guess its hamer time.... Clear out our continent first then go for korea?!

To bad .... No space...

Just got my first space in COTM14, it took me 30 or so turns to long cause my Aluminium (thats what you need right?) ran out ....

I had to go and conquer some.... (from spain) but then the darn Dutch declared... Gave them a lesson... But forgot about the SS for a while there.

Finaly got things back on track. Go the alu and won 1700s SS.... very late...
