TGOMTG Conquest Class Challenge (C3C)

Any progress, SW? Clock is ticking....

One down, one to go.

TGOMT sw 750bc-550bc

preturn, just lower tax to 10% saving some nickels.

IBT Babylon declares on Greeks. good. all i going according to plan.

1- kill a german warrior with an archer, now bleeding bad. the archer-warrior pair run back to the west.

2- Boston archer > spear,
road some.
greeks are a long ways off, so i keep the troops near the borders in the SW.
the Gerries seem to have gone for greek lands.

3- WDC archer > settler. NY archer > worker. (both on growth)
as the SPICES that greece had are now free for grabs. i move the archers down there to block any AI settlers till ours is there.

4- Sumer has monarchy, but at monopoly, its just too expensive. had hoped for some deals.

5- NY worker > archer,
move some workers to road our approaches to sumer on that oasis.

6- Boston spear > archer, change atlanta from worker to walls (so i dont waste 2 shields waiting for growth)
ISTANBUL gets the ORACLE.
trade greeks 170g for PHIL. Babylon PHIL + 195g for CoL. babylon isthe last without PHIL so had to take something, and phil is more useful now than MM. total cost 315g = 16 turns or so.
start a suicide run in the west'

7-greeks are trying to get ToA. Sumer want MoM and ToA. even better.
kill a german archer holed up near our spices.
water the oasis aslong as im there. start roading the spices.

IBT Persia and Babylon dont like greece anymore.
i also spot a handy settler group of sumer.
think about it.
wait.

8- WDC settler > archer, NY archer > archer,
the suicide is still floating and finds new land  it has barbs, so lets hope it also has tribes.
settler starts running to the spices.

9- Arrakis city is built, soon to have spice mines online. set for temple.
that new land sports some fine ivory. shouldnt have forggoten my 12 gauge.

10- Boston Archer > settler,
Athens wins the ToA, cascading to the gardens all over.
SUMER's Lagash wins the GARDEN cascade

plan is clear. wait fro the greek deal to expire (2 turns) move our SoD IBT, take out Sumer NOW.
Lagash is size 5 only now = no city def bonous!!

i have the predeal save, so if you want it, just holler

I think we are making progress. No Maths yet, huh?

Rota:

namliaM - up and get us ready for war.
Methos - in reserve
S'ven - back on line
Bede - got twisted up in his own feet
soul - fixed my boo-boos

Looking at the save I noticed Germany is willing to negotiate peace and would give us both Nuremberg and Heidelburg. Granted, we still have two turns left on our MA with Greece so we should wait until after that. Bismark also has Map Making, Monarchy, and Republic, though he wasn’t willing to give any of them for peace. He also has 390 gold!

I’m not for sure about the city deals, are they worth it? I typically take them but have never known for sure. IMO Nuremberg would be a good trade as its surrounding terrain is great, but Heidelburg is surrounded by jungle and I believe a lousy trade.I’d suggest at this time to take Nuremberg as well as any gold he’s willing to give. Hopefully when our MA is over the peace offering will be better.

Looking at the trades it looks like everyone has Map Making, everyone except Babylon has Monarchy, and Germany is the only one with Republic.

Curious why the workers are in the forest, are we planning on chopping them soon? My own suggestion would be to road the tile NE of Atlanta so it’ll be faster to both get to Lagash and defend it. I'd also suggest roading the tiles that our western front will be taking. I'm of course assuming we will be attacking on two fronts.

Question: Are second invasion force that attacks Agade do we plan on controlling it or razing it and moving our stack onto Sumer? I believe it may be wiser to raze it and come back later and build it back up. Besides maintaining the resistance on a size 7 city (even if we starve it) could be risky. Plus I hate to leave good troops behind just to hold a city.

I’ve attached my opinion on the battle plans for our invasion. The red dots are the starting points. I would suggest attacking agade from the wheat so that we are not attacking across a river. After it falls or is taken we move straight north and attack from the horse tile to stop them from receiving that resource.

The same goes when our eastern arm reaches Ur, we need to attack from the southeastern side to stay away from the river.

@Mailman: Luckily you’re a big MM but just in case I’ll mention this anyway. Both WDC and NY are going to waste a lot of shields if they aren’t MM’d. With a little work Atlanta can have its walls done in 2 and Chicago will have its barracks done in 5. Both WDC and NY won’t have any wasted shields at all.

I would also suggest taking Arrakis City off the bg and putting a Philly citizen on that tile instead. Due to corruption Arrakis isn’t even using the bonus shield from the bg and Philly could definitely benefit from the +1 food. I put Arrakis’s citizen on the grassland NE of the bg.

Are we definitely waiting for Math before starting anything? I prefer the help of cats but didn’t know how quick we needed to strike?

Oh yeah, here's my suggestion on the battle plan:

Sumer_battle_plans.JPG

METHOS,
my plan was a little more cunning.
i planned on a MASSIVE strike through Lagash and moving north to Sumer.
a secondary force of mostly defenders is to move up to Agade, harrasing the sumer troops, drawing thier fire against our hilly spears.
that way they will die on our spears.
i believe in no half measures - we need to pick a city or two and follow on them.
as i see it, we really want the gardens and sumer. after that we break sumer's back and eat Agade up.
so detailed plan -
Agade front: a smallish stack (3 spears, 3 archers) as buffer and pillagers. will draw sumerian fire.
Lagash front: all reserve troops, mostly archers. take Lagash and work north.
when lagash and sumer are gone, keep on pushing.
in the SW: keep some blocking troops in case of funny business (5 archers, some spears?)
the towns SOUTH of lagash should be monitored, but i dont think they'll prove to dangerous after they are cut off from sumer.

SOme tactical suggestions:

Capture both Agade and Lagash. Bring spears in some quantity.

Sumeria is a busy wonder builder so he won't have much of force until after we attack. When advancing on the capitol use the hills and mountains along the coast for cover and make sure you defend the mountain chain at Lagash.

If we don't have cats we will need a force of archers of at least two times the defense at the capitol, if not more, and he can build Enks in one turn.

Objectives should be Agade, Lagash, the capitol and the horse town. All of it if we can do it.

On the peace treaty with Germany, I never take towns. Unless they are on my borders.

Got it,

Plans for war: No none yet... I guess we are a bit low on both archers and Spears (by my count).

Will build some more of both and get them ready for "the battle plans".

Will play tomorrow (monday) hopefully (work permitting).

Greetz

I must admit I let MM-ing slide a bit, but did have some fun in return....
Have a read if you DARE

Xerxes suggests an Allieance vs the Greeks
He is willing to give Map Making as an incentive... This would mean ...

2) Probably will allow the Germans better access to our lands
3) a 2 front war on our lands, which we cannot handle
4) Take the focus of Sumeria

P.S. I hope them Greeks are still friendly

Give a guy lemons and we get lemonade. Nice work.

Rota:
Methos - on the firing line
S'ven - in reserve
Bede - lemme get my hands on those evil Sumerians.
soul - fixed my boo-boos
namliaM - got us into war and scored three nice victories

So, do we push on take Ur? Can we muster enough force quickly enough? What happens if Sumer flips back or is lost?

I am a little concerned about what appears to be a lack of mass in our attacking force and the mountains north of Lagash are uncovered. Does Atlanta have a barracks yet?
And what do we need to pay for Maths?

I hate to say it but I don’t trust Greece at all. I get that sinking feeling they’re going to take SF during the IT.

Also noticed that Greece has Mathematics now and are willing to trade it for 260 gold. I would suggest we take it now before they possibly attack.

I typically starve a city down to 1 pop after taking it to help keep it from defecting. Is this something we should do also?

I won’t post a got it until tomorrow afternoon. Sorry, but we have several friends coming over tomorrow night so I won’t be able to play until Wednesday night. I hope this is okay.

At least this gives us plenty of time to discuss it.

Question: Do we have enough troops to take Ur? Once the resistance is down do we need to rush temples in Lagash, Agade, and Sumer?

@namliaM: Great game and great job, looks like you had some excitement!

I find it interesting that none of the AI's seem to be settling the southeastern tip of our continent. Usually the wars don't start until after everything is settled (granted I'm used to playing Regent level). Makes me wonder if there isn't any future strategic resources located there.

Starve away, or pop-rush, or whatever it takes to get the population down.

By all means by Maths from Greece. If SF has a garrison it is probably safe.

Temples are not a bad idea in those captured towns.
