TGW-Div 1.6 -- World War I

You're right I should be intercepted but it's not happening. Maybe the because I am bombing outside of a city? I do know the chance for interception that is setup in the editor for the biq has a lot to do with it. If the percentage chance to intercept is low, i.e. less than 30%, then bombing planes won't get shot down that often. We might want to bump up the interception chance a bit.

No, Lanzelot is next. He was hoping to finish his turn on Thursday (see few posts above).

Sorry still got no time for playing. First another unexpected assignment came in that needed to be finished by Friday, and now we are visiting the relatives for Easter. (Which means no way to sneak away to a computer for more than 15min... :mischief:)

Easter worth waiting for :) Enjoy your trip, Lanzelot!

I played the Ottoman and Austrian turns today:

Ottoman Empire:

Artillery gives the Russians in Erzerum a last fare-well... Kemal and von Sanders kill 4 MGs.
The British intruders near Makri and Jerusalem are shelled as well.

Austria-Hungaria:
In Trieste the first Austrian destroyer leaves the docks. The first thing it sees is:
attachment.php

How on earth did that thing get here?? From Murmansk??
Destroyer removes that ugly thing.

Bombardment of Zhitomir begins. Afterwards the two Infantry Armies kill 4 conscripts, but one goes down to 1/13! Two armored cars defeat the Russian Inf division outside Zhitomir. Conrad and Dankl move on and kill two more conscripts, but take heavy losses as well.

Holy cow: when I went into F4 at the end, I got the error "Insufficient draw space. Terminating program." (The system didn't even have memory left to create a screenshot of this error?! Must be a memory leak in Conquests.exe. I never had this with C3C before.) Sh... I will have to replay the entire turn tomorrow. What if I get different results? E.g the Army that went down to 1/13, could easily die (or survive with 9/13... :crazyeye:)

Lanzelot

I hope it would work out with your PC, Lanzelot. After all you are an IT guy ;)
And my mine was there all the time courtesy to Montenegro's Navy :)

Austria-Hungaria Replay:
Pretty much as before. Only differences:
  • This time the counterbattery bombardment killed the French Inf outside Venice. (Last time it didn't even scratch it...)
  • I was able to kill only 5 conscripts in Zhitomir now, instead of 6. One Army went down to 4/13 on the first attack and I did not dare a second attack.

Germany:
Destroyer sweeps mine at Tallinn. In the fields of Grodno/Brest-Litowsk 15 Russian conscripts are captured. Some German Armies have to retreat to Warsaw because of heavy losses.
A Infantry attacks Brest-Litowsk, kills 6 conscripts and looses 2.

Phew, long awaited update! :) Russian losses are mounting :(

Only 2 Weeks are left from 1914 and Central powers already have more than 25% of needed 200K VPs. Feels like Russia wont make it to 1917, so that it could declare Revolution and ask armistice with the Germany. So the battles near Brest Litovsk continue with the same ferocity.

German Army's size around Brest-Litovsk is simply astonishing. I was too tired to count all the units tonight, but perhaps for the next turn I need to take a screeny to amaze the future generations. Feels like no unit left on Western Front. Russian Conscripts are fighting against 10 Corps (4 retreating). The other six Corps are bombarded by 39 Light guns, redlining all the advancing Corps. We will see which of them will dare to attack the next turn.

2 German CLs near the Southern Finland sunk due to the underwater explosions. No promotions for Russians.

Redlined Russian troops returned from the 6 month long Western Armenia campaign without much gains, but still received hero's' welcome.

Cossack Army destroyed a road connecting Yerevan with the Western Armenia. 3 MPs and free pillage work really nice together!

Series of defensive barbwired belts are completed around Riga. No more 1-turn rail road assisted attacks feared by any Russian city. For every 10 Conscripts killed we will draft 20. Stavka issued the famous order: Ни шагу назад! ;)

Week 50-51, 1914

France:

No action this turn to report.

Britain:

British Zeppelins engage German dogfighters over Arnhem and Liege. We lost a total of 4 Zeppelins for no losses to the Germans. During the fighting however, we did manage to bomb the Bombshelter of Arnhem.

The Royal Navy has broken through the minefield belt protecting the Baltic Sea. We lose one CL in exchange for destroying a German mine that was redlined from navy bombardment.

Italy:

Italian counter battery fire damages some Austrian troops in their trenches outside of Bolzano then Marshal Rodolfo Graziani enters the scene and defeats an Austrian HMG that was damaged in the stack. He retires badly wounded however.

The Royal Navy has broken through the minefield belt protecting the Baltic Sea.

Wow!:woohoo::clap::rockon: Defense 1000 unit!

Spoiler :
The Baltic Project - was a project supported by the Admiral Lord Fisher to procure a speedy victory in a war with Germany. The plan involved landing a substantial force, either British or Russian Empire soldiers, on the flat beaches of Pomerania on the North German coast under 100 miles from Berlin. To support this a large specialist fleet would be required. Submarines and extensive mining would, it was proposed, keep the invasion force safe from the German Navy. More than 600 special vessels were required, including landing craft, minesweepers, destroyers, light cruisers, monitors, and some heavy shallow draft support ships. The latter were built in the form of the three "battlecruisers"; HMS Glorious, HMS Furious, and HMS Courageous.

Ottoman Empire:
von Sanders kills two British Marines between Makri and Adalia. Kemal kills British Inf R near Makri and Inf A near Gaza.
A Russian combat engineer is taken POW.

Austria-Hungaria:
Siege Gun and Inf A defeat Cossack near Lemberg.
After properartillery preparation, Conrad kills a conscript in Zhitomir, but goes down from 15/16 to

4/16! Armored cars continue the attack but loose 2:3.

Germany:
German fleet destroys two Russian submarines near Helsinki.
Railgun and then Counterbattery shelling of the stack dug in between Grodno and Brest-Litowsk kills two

conscripts. Zeppelins killed another four divisions. Retreating Army Groups took another 6 on the way back, then Inf A attacked and killed 5 more divisions, at the loss of 2.
The battle of Brest-Litowsk continues. More shelling and then 3 Inf A attack, winning 2:1.

Sorry, I didn't have much time for civ in the last two weeks, but now our vacation is over, so things should get better again... ;)

Just to give you some vague idea what do the heros of Brest Litovsk go through each turn. Not shown more 210 mm guns, and 6+ Corps healing in Germany.

Killed the stack of 4 units (1 MG, 1 Vet R Div, 2 Regular R Divs) south of Grodno by Samsonov, 2 A Divs and 1 R Div. Lost Cossack, 1 A div and 5 R Divs :crazyeye: 2 German units went to Elite during this slaughter!

No other actions to report! Russia is waiting for turn 2 year 1915 when massive reinforcements will arrive!

Week 51, 1914

France-Britain:

Anglo French forces launched their offensive against Liege this week. The fighting there was to prove to be the most brutal so far on the Western Front.

The French forces moved in first. The preparatory bombardment did not go too well however. Only 3 of the 6 big French guns in action hit their targets. Then the little guns fired with similar results. The infantry were ordered to attack nonetheless. Three French armies started the offensive followed up by a heavy French infantry assault. The French sector retired as the English began their part of the battle.

British guns also did not do too well either this week. It is clear when it comes to artillery the Germans know what they are doing and the Entente does not. Even a massive Zeppelin bombardment failed to do much. One population point was destroyed as well as the market place of Liege. Then the British moved in. Their attack was lead by two Corps and followed up with a heavy infantry assault. The line could not be penetrated however and this week saw the biggest loss suffered by the British army in all it's history.

In the end the result was as follows:

11 French Rifle R, 12 British Rifle R, and 1 British Indian Infantry. The German defenders lost 2 Landwehr Divisions and 9 Rifle R divisions.

In the Middle East a British Indian Division spots a badly damaged Kemal! Immediately the Indians attack Kemal who was at 10/18HP before the battle. After the battle the Indians are all dead and Kemal is reduced to 6/18HP.

Artillery hits the Turkish defenders in the Red Sea city there but nothing else happens.

The Royal Navy bombards Copenhagen and much to their surprise a medium sized force of German ships are caught in harbor and are all redlined.

Week 52, 1914

Italy:

The year ends quietly for the Italians with no action to report.

Ottoman Empire:
The Ottomans start this year by taking a break and giving the Russians and the English a little rest as well...

Austria-Hungaria:
Counter-battery damages intruding cossack. The Austrian cavalry then leaves the barracks to hunt them down.
Siege of Zhitomir continues, but no active action taken this turn.

Germany:
The people in Germany are celebrating the heros of Liege and the victory in a cruel defensive battle!

The Swedish embassador complains about a Russian destroyer flottila near Stockolm. Battleship Nassau takes care of it... We do everything to please our friends the Neutrals...
Here's a little riddle for you: where did General Rutsky and his Cossack Army go? They must have deflacted to the west... :D
Zeppelins kill two Russian Inf A near Grodno. More Zeppelins damage Vilna

Railguns bombard British fleet at Esbjerg and damage 7 battleships heavily. Then three German König Class battleships, the best we can build, engage the numerically superior enemy and sink three battleships, before retreating into safety.

Zeppelin tries to bombard the British fleet that has broken into the Baltic sea, but is shot down. Then five almost completely broken Pre-Dreadnoughts and a battleship drag themselfes out of Copenhagen, but hit mainly the empty water...

Holy cow: a destroyer spots 7 British submarines near Kalmar! One gets sunk.

What are the Italians doing at Besancon? Guys, the tulips are in Amsterdam! (Here you'll find only counterbatteries... But four were not enough to beat them?!)

Little shock at the end: after saving and looking into the Saves folder, the file was not there!! Oh, no, hours of work lost! (This had happened to me before on another laptop 2-3 times. And sometimes it had created the file in the Conquests folder.) But good luck: after looking around I saw it: it had just created a file with ending ".sa" instead of ".sav"...

Last week of the bloody 1914 was marked by a remarkable victory! German troops understood the futility of their Brest Litovsk siege and retreated back to German occupied Poland!:whew::whew::whew:

Russian Propaganda presented Brest Litovsk as Russian Verdun. Black markets got littered with the cans and can openers left by Germans in abandoned Brest Litovsk trenches.

Austrians felt the consequences of German withdraw in the very direct way: Russian artillery suddenly became available to shell something else than German positions. All the infantry units got redlined near Zhitomir.

As for Ruzsky, it's believed that unhistorically overpowered Zeppelins killed the entire Ligh Horse Corps!

As for Ruzsky, it's believed that unhistorically overpowered Zeppelins killed the entire Ligh Horse Corps!

Well, let's put it that way: Russian horses, not used to the sight of flying objects, panicked and trampled their riders into the mud... It didn't need that many bombs at all, but the effect was devastating.

BTW: I read that at the beginning of the war, Russia had quite a large number of airplanes. But Russian foot soldiers always tried to shot them down, because they thought advanced high-tech like that must surely belong to the enemy...
