The (not so) Anonymous Bears Addicts Association

- Hi

- Hi!!
(said the voices)

- My name is Vorpal and I'm a Bear addict.

from Emily:
- We are all Bear Addicts here Vorpal. Don't stress yourself!

from Gerald
- Tell us how it started, Vorpal

- Well... It was nearby this city ... don't remember the name, perhaps something like Khaz... something. Don't matter anyway. I had an hunter sitting around, waiting for his eagle.

from Cindy
- yes, continue Vorpal, you are on the right path! Only the start is difficult you know...

- and then I saw a bear, in the forest. I send my hunter against him, and voila! I captured my first bear!

- aaaaah, yessssss!!!
(said the voices)

- and then I saw another, and another, and another. Everywhere Bears!!! When I got my eagle, I sent it to a peak ... and then ... the Vision! BEARS!!! everywhere!!

- yes yes yessssss YESS!!!
(said the voices)

Calm down people, you are in therapy!!
(said the nurse)

- and then, when I sent back my first bears to a city, I saw I could add one to the city, and that I got culture and happiness from it!!

(from Cindy)
- oh man, it so cool, the feeling... I must be strong, I'm almost detoxed!!

- Now send bears to all my cities. Particularly the new ones. I mean, who need a monument when you can insta-plop a bear and get culture? And you know what, I even now build roads into the tundra so that my new warriors can train a bit against bears!

- yes, yesss, yess, we do that too!!! argghhhh

- It's so good, I can't resist! See later you guys ... must go. Bears' calling me!!

- people, people please calm down!! Medics, Vorpal is running away, catch him, fast!!!

hahaha, well-written, Vorpal, and I couldn't agree with your point more.

I'm hoping something gets done about the Bear Explosion I've written about before in .34.

Their creating of dens and spawning rate really has to get slowed down a bit. In my latest game I noticed a Bear had just spawned in a den (2 Bears in the den), I killed one with a nearby Hunter. The very next turn another spawned.

It is just too much on a land map and can really bog down the barb action in the later game. Of course, if you have a strong Hunter, a Ranger or Beastmaster those Bear Farms can get you a lot of XP!;)

My friends and I will actually farm bears, making sure there's always a few left in a secluded spot that the AI can't get to. They are a really, really nice buff.

Bears ftw!

We don't need less bears, we need more other animals and more barbarians. We need easy exp fodder to send 100+ exp units after ai.

@ Zup: wait for 0.34 and we'll see if your lust for wandering critters gets stilled then. :mischief: (can't give warranty for the easy part then though. :D)

Oh yea and Bears are big! fun. If they whould be just more common on Deity. I whould even seriously try to get some in my seldom non-reload (but sometimes restart)-games with the Sidar. As is it only works with Immortal and below. I miss those bear-hordes. :(
(I have to admit the game has become quite harder in the last patches. Never had Elves! build the Ride of the Nine Kings as early as Turn 190! normal Speed . My favorite Wonder as Sidar. But thats to fast even for a relative beeline. :()

Oh and if you can grab many bears early (especially as Embers, Kuoritates or Hippus with their petcatching cavalry) + Natures Revolt Early they alongside some spiders with City-Raider 3 and Combat 5 can even bring some developed civs down to their knee-equivalents (;)). Tried it on Emperor with Kuoritates and its big fun to overwhelm the map with high-powered Critters (Griffons, Spiders and Bears mostly...)
A high-powered-griffon/bear augumented by Natures Revolt can even kill a lightly promoted Longbow! fortified in a city.
The Barbs do a good job at finishing them off. And you can collect the spoils. :D

there was another awesome post about bears slaugthering everything written as a nice story a while ago... if anyone can find it tat would be great, it was hilarious
