The Ancient Mediterranean MOD (TAM)

But why are the images of the folder and not the Icon. I'm downloading the tryout now. I also forgot that you only put the possible number of players as 8 with I had to change. Also why are the roads in the cities gone when you start the game? I tried it with 1.00 and 1.22 then I uninstalled the Program and reinstalled it. I tried clicking the porperties on the city tile to road and no roads and either way when I start the game there are no roads! Is this a bug? I also found that when I built a city on a road it disconnected the road!!! what is going on. Note I thought I might have done something wrong so I tried your original one and it still disconnects. Roads cannot lead into cities for some reason. Tell me how to fix it?

I'm wondering others before me must have tried to modify this great MOD but why wasn't it reported? This is a real problem...

I found an alternative!! I think I've spent at least 7 hours today on this great MOD. In the Med. Map when you edit it the roads don't show but in the fertile creasent it works!!! This means I have to remake the map I made of Greece which took me about 4 hours straight but Woot! at least it works!

However anyone found why in the Med map the roads don't connect?

I should really study for my philosophy test tomorrow but this is so addicting...

Dacians. Not a lot of people know about these guys.

Hi!

As a romanian fan of this game I can tell you few facts about dacians.

Dacians are a tribe derived from Tracians. Capital city of Dacians was Sarmisegetusa (there is an open air museum with remains of the constructions..). A romanian historian found a similiraty between Stonehenge and the Great Sanctuarum from Sarmisegetusa . His theory is based on both visual and matemathical calculations.
The first historical fact known about dacians is from a well known ancient historian named Herodot. He wrote that Darius I , the king of Persians started a punish campaign against scytians (514 BC). He passed Bosfor with a very large army and met dacians at Black Sea.All tracian people from his way surendered but dacians. They were easily defetead.

The Dacian teritory was delimited by Tisa river, Nistru river, Black Sea and Danube Delta (most of the Romania teritory..).
The decision of Traian (the roman emperor..around 90's AD) to conquest Dacia was made because:
1. those guys became too strong and the romans cannot hold on at the Danubian border.
2. the defend of estic provinces from migrating tribesc; also he wouldn't like to let helenic culture to influence too much the est of europe; Dacian teritory was supposed to be a latin replica of western civilisation created by Caesar and August
3. romans wanted to conquest all civilised people from the proximity of their borders; dacians were part of those "cived" people
4. gold and other minerals, fields for agriculture (a good source for other campains).

There were 2 wars between romans and dacians: 101-102 and 105-106. In the last war, the king Decebal commited suicide as he didn't want to be a prisoner.Between 103-105, Apolodor from Damasc (a well known architect) built a bridge over Danube as roman troops can cross the river. This bridge is also known as the longest in the Roman Empire (1135 meters) and it remains only a foot wich can be seen today in Drobeta city. Dacians were beaten and their country became roman province. It seems that romanians are the result of mixture between dacians and romans.

Well, there are a lot of articles and books about dacians but i'm stopping here.. :)

gr8 mod man!

Fix this please

I have also received the error from the previous post. I would suggest that this is a problem with the paths in the scenario file. The installation instructions on the first post indicate that the scenario files need to be installed into the Conquests/Conquests folder, but the self -extracting zip file will not allow you to do so, instead extracting them into your Conquests/Scenarios folder. Presumably it is unable to reach the Fire Catapult files in the Conquests/Conquests/Rise of Rome folder because it is trying to find these files locally. I think the only solution whilst in the middle of a game is to copy the files for Fire Catapult over from Rise of Rome to the TAM 2.2 folder, as I do not believe updating the .mod file will have any effect on a game in progress. This is what I have done, but I am not going to test it right now.
Hope it works...

I had a different mod that also used the fire catapult from Rise of Rome. All I did was copy the "fire catapult" folder i that mod to this. It worked out nicely!
:goodjob:

This is a really great mod but I'm curious as to why there is a huge lack of good defensive units. I'm playing as the Romans and my 8 defense Praetorians just can't stand up to 12-14 attack strength units they have to fight. This makes it hard to hold cities against AI SoD's . My only chance is to keep lots of offensive units in my cities for counterattacking but that's hard to do if the AI is using 2 movement units. Also, these wimpy defense units are costly compared to the comparable attack units so building stack of them is difficult.

Is there a reason why defensive units are so underpowered?

This looks awesome. I download it then I try to install it and I get an error that says I have a runtime error. I hope this doesn't mean that the installation is corrupt (3 hour d/l time in dial-up is quite painful...)

Civil disorder intensifies in The Ancient Mediterranean Mod thread!

Hi

I know that this Mod is complete and there is point saying anything but i read that the Arabs were not included because

Arabians: They might have been important, but not a large Empire as most of the other nations were. - Thamis

I don’t think that was correct exactly, the Arabs before 620AD were mostly traders as well as the cities. After that of course Islam began to spread and 'The Islamic Empire' formed this lasted about 620-1400Ad.
During this time The Empire reached Europe in Spain, North Africa (conquering Egypt) and reached as far as India (Hindu Kush area, also Conquering Persia).
The fact remains that the Arabs i.e. 'Islamic Empire' dwarfed Rome
at its mistiest and were a major power during this period. Afterwards of course a decline came due to ignorance really (discussion for another time :) ) this led to the massecure of muslims, spain is a good example with their 'Spainish Inquishion' . This around about 1400-1600Ad.
They had great leaders as well, Sultan Saladin who was famous during the defense of the Crusades, so I believe they should be included really but that’s my opinion.
Anyways it’s too late now trying to convince you to put the civ in, I haven’t played your mod much but it’s very good from what I’ve played.

Thanks for the mod, excuse my spelling mistakes

What is your next project anyhows?

with regards Muhajireen

This is the "Ancient Mediterranean." 620 CE places the Caliphate and all successor states firmly in the Middle Ages, far later than this scenario covers.

I just have to say again that I really love this mod. Playing another Emperor game as Rome and having a great time. I know you've said that you're done tweaking it, but I do wish you'd buff up the last age a bit. Anyway... Just my two cents.

kaptajnknark:
You have to install to CONQUESTS\CONQUESTS. I am certain the install file will let you do it, it should even select that folder by default. Unless maybe you have a pirated version without the appropriate registry entries. Otherwise the fix posted by It'sPat will work, too.

Horton:
Because otherwise the AI won't be able to make any conquest against the AI. The AI strategy is to trickle down units one by one, which is completely useless. It is expected from a human player to be able to fend off attackers with offensive units. Ancient warfare was very much about fighting back and forth, rather than sitting in your city.

Muhajireen:
Arabs are, as it has been correclty noted, a post-Ancient CIV. The game here stops at 600 AD. In a way, the Arabs are represented by the Sabeans, the ancient Yemeni civilization.

Simna:
Black death is very prominent in this MOD. You can prevent it from spreading by cutting the roads around the infected city.

Leptomeninges:
There will be one more final update, which will only have a few minor fixes and improved graphics. Otherwise I'm too busy with other stuff, and I will also make sure that a good Ancient Med scenario will find its way into Civilization 4. :)

Trying to reinstall your original version after making some changes to various civs for fun. Having some trouble with the self-extractor. It insists on installing only to the conquests folder (C:\Program Files\Atari\Civilization III\Conquests) as opposed to Conquests\Conquests. If I try to browse for conquests\conquests the option is greyed out. If I follow the spot it wants to install it ends up in my conquests\scenarios folder. Can I just bodily cut and paste the files to conquests\conquests or will this give me bugs?

I followed the default installation and it ends up in conquests/scenarios rather than conquests/conquests. Will this work or should I cut and paste?

Thanks for your quick reply.
