The Atlas Project

on another note: could you please tell me where the 'custom' build speeds (for marathon/epic/normal/quick) are saved when i edit them with this program? it causes crashes when playing in MP, and the 'restore' function doesn't seem to be working properly, as i still get 'your config files are different from host's' warnings when i try to restore them.

also, coal seems to lump together quite horribly.. currently on a map where there are a dozen sources of coal in an 8x6 square on an 80x60 continent, with the other continent not having any..

The resource placement is very... funny to call it somehow... In my maps they don´t appear where they should...

@Boombaard:
The file edited for custom speeds is CIV4GameSpeedInfo.xml (in Civ4\Assets\XML\GameInfo). You could copy this file from your friend. But actually, this should not happen. Are you sure both you and the people you are playing with have version 1.52?

@elhoim:
Can you be more specific? I'll look into it. As far as I know, these resources need adjustment:
* Rice, wheat, corn : not on hills
* Coal : Less lumped together
* Fish : Correct amount

Well, besides that, I noticed that Whales are almost always on coast, very near to the land, when they should be at least one plot away, I think...

I found a little bug: When click the cross to close the tune gamespeed window, it closes the program altogether...

On a side note, the tune gamespeed affects only this map or it changes the main file for all games?

@elhoim: all games..

@junuxx: thanks, as for the being sure: quite, we've been playing MP games together since november or so, never seen the error before i edited the speeds a bit, and not seen it since i reinstalled civ to fix it (since the restoring didn't work :))

still not sure why it happens junuxx.. all other files appear to be untouched (looking at modify date), but the game still reports a 'file version difference' on MP games.. which seems to sometimes cause 'Out of Synch' errors :S

Hey,
First I want to thanx you for this great tool.
Second, I wish to know if its possible to fix this issue : I use a mod which change the two last gamespeed/settings to new ones. But with all map generated by our tool, gamespeed/settings are already fixed, so that even when I load the map under civ4 and choose into map option the mod gamespeed/settings I wish, I'll have to play with awful vanilla settings.

Hi aidler,
Deer are only placed in tundra forests, which are pretty sparse. If your tundra or forest setting is low, you might get a world without tundra forests. The resource placement algorithm will then fail to place any deer. You can either try to increase the amount of tundra forests, or you can play on a world without Deer. :)

Hey, Junuxx, you're alive! Yey.

Just wondering if you plan to get back to work on Atlas eventually--and/or does physical reality still demand your full attention (as I assume it has been)?

Hi

is already a couple of months as me for me have generated a map with the editor but in any case it has been a lot of fun.

Do not put the project merely on ice. Big thx for your work.

I'am about to install Civ4 for me just again and looked for a fine Map there your editor occurred to me again, I unfortunately, had deleted it but have now again.

Could you make an option to only randomize resources, and leave the map as it was? This could be usefult when changing a map from 1 mod into another. And to also spice up a good map one might've already played.

Yeah I still need to do some bugfixing and improvements on Atlas, but I've problems putting myself to it. There are hoewever some pretty cool enhancements to the river generation system that you haven't seen yet. :)

There seem to be some problems with Atlas and locking modified assets, which may affect multiplayer games or GOTM games. It's probably got something to do with files I put in the assets folder instead of the customized assets. Should be easy to fix.

@Paasky:
Try the 'Generate Misc' button ;)

the original map generator placed deer on grasland or plains woods, too
at least my capital on a huge Great Plains map had this (lower right corner where everything is grass or plains)

Disclaimer: don't know if your explanation only explains what the tool does ;)

I think that's because the core game maps only puts deer in plains/grass forest in Great Plains (and Fantasy Realm).

Atlas' first anniversary is drawing near, and I've been working on a new version with a completely redone user interface, Warlords compatibility, a much requested "load" function, better rivers, bugfixes and much much more.
Also the Gamespeed Tuner gets a big overhaul because it interfered with multiplayer play, and had some more shortcomings.

I hope to release this version in a week, maybe two. Feel free to post requested functions and stuff. Now is your chance ;)

Junuxx.
