The Capo's LH Gallery and Self-Help Thread!

Ekmek; you have created a monster!

Looks like you are the only leaderhead maker currently available! All the other have disappeared!:)

The new LHs look cool. I'm definitely going to download the last two (Mongkut and Sennacherib). I'll be waiting for your new MOD, though, to get the entire Assyrian civ. Is it going to be like in Civ Gold?

Well my mod (and the new version) only has two additional civs added which are Israel and the Iroquois (the Sioux replace the Native Americans, the city list is completely different and they have another leader as well, but I left the same UU and UB so as not to ruin the game mechanics). The new civs I make (so far there are thirty of them, for a total of 32 new civs for my mod) are in modular format and are made to go with my mod. I didn't do diplomacy texts or custom diplo music so the player can decide which civs they want in. So its up to you which ones you want to add (there are civs like the Teutonic Knights or the Songhai that I could understand if people didn't want in due to irrelevance or repetitiveness for example).

So you won't have to wait long to see Assyria as a civ. I am not exactly sure what I am going to do with Assyria but I definitely wouldn't say it will be like Civ Gold. Firstly I might not use the same UU and UB they used (although there is a pretty good chance I might), secondly I might not even use Ashurbinipal (sp?) and may actually make Sargon the second leader (Sargon is already in my mod as a second leader of Sumeria, but I also have Constantine as a leader for both Rome and Byzantium in my mod and Sargon is Sennacherib's grandfather). Finally all of my modules have flavored units, which I don't believe Civ Gold has. So, and no offense to the Civ Gold mod at all, I actually play it myself often, but I would venture to say mine will be better. :p

Just out of curiosity, why do you have the Iroquois and Israelis added in the core game? To me, it would make more sense to put them in the add-on packs with all the others, and focus the initial download on the vanilla game civs.

For these modules, since a lot of the unit sets aren't made yet, I make a lot of the units myself. My skills in that area aren't good so I basically take other people's work and edit that. You can check any of my European module packs (or any of the module packs actually) and see what I am talking about. They all have flavored unit sets.

As a small example this is what I have so far for the Apache Rifleman.

If you visit my mod's (Diplomacy is the name of it) thread in the modpack forum, I regularly post image updates and use a lot of feedback and ideas from people who visit my thread. I like a lot of consensus because I think it makes the mod better and more user-friendly. The first one I made was my first ever foray into modding at all. So this next version should be much better/polished. I haven't started doing the Assyrian unit set just yet, I am still working on the Apache units, but I'd be happy to see your (or anybody's)thoughts and advice in that thread.

I added Israel because I used the JARM as part of my mod. So I figured if you selected choose religions nobody would pick Judaism (all of the other religions were accounted for) and I figured they should be in. Plus I thought Ekmek had great LHs in David and Ben-Gurion so I couldn't resist. The Iroquois were added because I wanted to add another civ as well, figured that another North-American Indian civ wouldn't hurt, got some C4 Colonization leaders, and saw some awesome Iroquois unit sets out there. Also they were in Civ III so I figured why not add them!

Plus since I didn't change the core game mechanics that much I figured a couple extra civs would make it a bit more enticing a mod.

Besides... that Sargon LH was originally Suppiliuluma of the Hittites. If we ever make the Hittites we might need that LH.

This is actually the thing I wanted to know. Will there be the same UU and UB and the same city list. I saw the Ashurbanipal from CivGold- it is a bad LH, in my opinion- doesn't look at all like an Assyrian leader, looks more Medieval. Anyway, I didn't doubt you'll also add flavour units. I have a question about Thailand: will their flavour units be those red ones from the Thailand MOD or is there something new you're working on?

Besides... that Sargon LH was originally Suppiliuluma of the Hittites. If we ever make the Hittites we might need that LH.

I don't quite get your logic here.

I can just make a Suppiliuluma or whoever else we might need. Why go through all the trouble of changing something I already made (a mod) just because someone made the LH for someone else before and we 'might need' the LH?

I used Suppiliuluma as as Sargon because I thought his attire looked closer to Gilgamesh's and he would be a good fit as a second Sumerian leader. If/when I make the Hittites I'll probably make a new LH for that.

Igor, would the Ashurbanipal LH be good for someone else?

I'll answer these questions, but if they don't pertain to my LHs I'd rather keep them in my mod's thread. That way its all in one spot and people don't get discouraged from coming here if they are just here about the LHs.

@ GeoModder; thank you.

@ IgorS; I am probably going to use the Thai flavored units that already exist. I am not a particularly great unit maker, and while the Apache guy might look cool all I did was switch the head and reskin Bernie's American rifleman a little. My skills aren't that deep, and making six flavored sets is quite an undertaking. As for the UU and UB; the Assyrians will PROBABLY have different ones, but I am not sure. It is pretty enticing to use the same stuff as CivGold. Generally I determine it based on certain criterea; quality of the graphic (or of a possible replacement graphic), historic accuracy/relevance of the unit or building, historic accuracy or relevance of the stats of the unit or building. If CivGold has good stats and a good name but a bad graphic I might use the stats and name but not the graphic, if I don't like it at all I use something else (for instance in the Finland module I made I liked the Sauna so I used it, but I did not like the UU so I used a different one or in the Romania module I liked the UB but did not like the graphic so I used a different graphic, and I did an entirely different UU). As for the Ashurbinipal LH; I totally agree with you. If anything I'd rather use that as a Hittite LH but that is a stretch too, the LH looks good in the sense that it looks like a good LH, I just don't think it looks particularly Assyrian.

Alright, having said that, any questions about my modules or about my mod should go in the proper thread. Thanks.

Igor, would the Ashurbanipal LH be good for someone else?

I think he'd make a good early Turkic leader, maybe a Hittite, or a slavic leader. I might even venture to say a Norse LH perhaps. Its hard to say, I don't know if you've seen it but its basically a white guy wearing some robes (similar to Mehmed's) with grey hair and a beard. At least to me that's what it looks like.

Thanks for all of the kind words everyone! They are greatly appreciated.

I am going to make the modules for these new guys, and then I am going to do the Ulmanis and Nasser requests and then for a while I'll be out of the LH making business as I work on version two of my mod (although I am making a few new LHs for that). I am doing a few LHs that people already have made, but I had a different vision for them, I won't go into too much detail on that right now (you'll see it when it comes out).

But please, if you find anything wrong with the latest LHs I have made, or any of them for that matter, please let me know so I can fix them (whether sooner or later). Thanks.

I noticed some clipping on the Mongkut with his sash, I'm adding Siam/Thailand to my mod.

Is this possible to fix?

mongkut.jpg

Unfortunately the clipping can not be fixed because I can't change the animations on this LH. The only way to fix it would be to move the sash forward in which case it will clip against the forearm and look even worse. My original intent was to change the animations for Mongkut, but that proved impossible because the base skeleton doesn't work with any other animations.

Its weird that the eyeshadow isn't working right, were you able to fix that?

EDIT: You could always remove the sash, but I think (despite the clipping) it looks better with the sash. But the sash is easy to remove if you have nifskope.

Still strange, I could have sworn it was in there. It worked for me. I may have accidentally deleted it when I deleted all of the blends and extra nifs. If anyone else experiences this I can post an eye shadow for you, but if you have colonization you could use any eyeshadow. In fact it might work for regular civ LHs too, I'm not sure about that. But if you have nifskope you could just pluck the sash off if it really bothers you.

EDIT: I can try to see what I can do about the sash, but it might not be until next week that I do that. In the meantime if you have nifskope you can move it around (towards his neck more) and see if that helps.

But please, if you find anything wrong with the latest LHs I have made, or any of them for that matter, please let me know so I can fix them (whether sooner or later). Thanks.

Only a small problem with Munoz Marins greeting, look at his arm/his shoulder.

Is not a big issue, because it's only the greeting :).

Cochise, Sennacherib: :goodjob:, nothing to say more.

You should organize the pictures in the starting post in an other chronology, the newest first, so the progress can easier be seen :).
