The Capo's LH Gallery and Self-Help Thread!

I don't believe so. I tried the same thing with the original unedited Justinian nonshader and got the same result.

I don't know what to tell you, I've never done what you are trying to do. I usually just make the LH, do the nifswap and then see what it looks like in-game and usually it works. Why don't you try that?

So, this is also about giving hints to users to make them help themselfes, yes? Well, then I think I'll have a last approach to get help for my Nagy LH.

There is still the problem with the eyes. The other one, about the mouth, has been tweaked by a greater distance between the camera and the LH itself. But I really don't know what else I could do to fix the eyes. The problem is that the eyes turn out of their eye-sockets. It is really worse at the beginning of the greeting sequence, but also visible during the pleased sequence (then they don't turn out but the right eye is still about moved outside). Can't say what's with the other sequences. From what I understand (I wouldn't describe myself as a pro) the eyes always look towards the eye_target, thus no rotation. Because the whole body is rotated at the beginning of the mentioned sequence, it is somewhat normal that the eyes look strait to the left. Actually the problem seems to be their position: it would be hard to recognized that the eyes are looking too much to the left if they would still be in their sockets and thus be covered. That's how it seems to work for alexander (whos animation I use for my LH). I recognized that cfkanes Firefly has similar problems as my LH, but I had the impression that it is not that bad then in Nagys case. I guess it has something to do with the model itself. I already tried several things:
- realigning the eyes to their eyeball nodes so that their movement may work better; even tried it with to seperated eyes to be more flexible with aligning; this ways things got only worse
- tried to change the animation in 3ds max; unfortunately I can move the whole bone only instead of only its end point and neighbouring bones are also affected which makes the LH distorted
- swap the animation; according to the well-know list the only animation that could work is Peters, because all the others don't fit to a european prime minister; this caused distortions on the shoulders which I was unable to fix (so far I never was able to fix stuff like that by moving nodes, I hardly get anything changed by this method at all); also the face got a bit strange...
So, now I am running out of ideas and I'd really appreciate any hint.

I guess I'll post a screenshot of the problem a little later (in approx. an hour). If you like to take a closer look at my files, you can load my files from the leaderhead request thread. Should not take you too long to find them, but I'll post them here again (this post).

EDIT: Stuff uploaded.

I'll try to take a look at it when I have time. It looks to me like this was based on Alexander right? If that's the case it may be an easy fix by simply swapping things around. Its difficult to mess with the eyes, so if you did that it may cause the problems you are describing. I can't tell from the images, so I'd have to take a look at it when I get some free time (probably in the next few days) and I'll let you know what the issue is. At least if I am able to do so.

Ah, thank you Capo. Finally someone who wants to take some time for this. At least the LH is using alexanders animations (and also shader files I think). In the nif the name Trudeau appears quite often. Without checking the colonization and homebrew LHs I guess Trudeau was another LH based on Alex which then has been turned into Firefly by cfkane and then into Nagy by me. As I have to wait for another request I made anyways it's not a problem for me to wait for this a bit, even if it takes you two weeks.

EDIT: It is possible that I worked on the lids a bit, but I don't think so (but I worked on the brows). All the other things I tried with the eyes have been saved in new files. As those tricks have failed, all those files should be already deleted. Compared to cfkanes Firefly the only difference with the eyes could be their size. I think I shrunk them a bit. I can't remember whether I shrunked the eyes themselves or only worked on the texture net a bit. In any case you can totally remove the eyes if you like. The eyeball nodes could be slightly changed, but only their position (no rotation). Compare it with cfkanes Firefly to restore the values. Other then this I can't remember that I've done anything to the eyes...

Happy Easter!

This is the LH it is based on- http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?p=6328754, in case you're curious.

So basically this leaderhead is based on a leaderhead which was based on Alexander? When I take a look at this I'll probably break it down to the common denominator (Alexander) and move along from there. But again, it may be a while as I have a lot of civ-related work on my plate right now. Which is why I have not been taking LH requests (I think I have ten LHs to do as it is).

Yeah, basically it is based on Alex. Although the torso and the glasses are from FDR and Gandhi... However, just take as much time as you need!

Hi Capo, I noticed that your Dufour leaderhead was modeled after John Adams, and I was wondering if you ever ran into any issues with it? I'm having trouble even exporting an unmodified version. I tried working things over at the Niftools forum, but to no avail.

If you didn't run into problems, could I ask what version of Blender you use? I'm on 2.48a and the new beta version of the scripts. It may be possible that something new in the scripts is screwing things up.
Thanks!

Capo,

Did you ever find what caused the cracking like I saw in that Adolf hitler LH? I think it might not have been the LH but Blender 2.48 which I've been trying to use. I just made a new LH and I was getting the same afect :dunno:

I haven't used Blender too much lately because I have been working on a set of modular civs (and I have also been busy with work). I did start on a Ptolemy Soter LH the other day though, so I'll let you know what happens with that one, I could work on Hitler right after that and we'll see where the problem lies. Just give me a week or two to finish up these modules.

I'm sure its 2.48. I opened that blend in 2.43 and exported it and it worked fine. The only really advantage with 2.48 is that it will display the dds textures and it does ut in edit mode so when you shape stuff you don't have to flip back and forth (it got rid of UV mode)

So basically you are saying if I stick to the old version (2.43) I should have no problems using the existing Hitlers out there to make a quality Hitler?

I think I am going to wind up making around 15 leaderheads for the next version of my mod. So there will be a huge update to this gallery and then after that I'll go back to regular LH making and take a break from other modding because its so much damn work and I really liked making LHs.

I think that the one I posted if I included the blend might actually work now. I may try it out but I don't have time right now.

i hear that. After I'm comfortable with Mare Nostrum I'd prefer going back to LHs. Maybe some units too.

I had a few minutes of spare time on my hands so I tried using the Hitler LH comissioned (?) by el hidalgo and it didn't work. So I did a quick nifswap and that didn't work either. So I guess I'm going to have to make this one from the ground up! But I'm starting on it, so I'll have some screen shots for you when I get around to it, probably on Thursday.

I have a question for you though if you see this Ekmek; what did you do to get that "broken" look posted in the other thread. I couldn't even get this LH to show up in-game at all. Did you have to doctor it in Blender a little to get it to work?

Just to re-enter the discussion here on 2.48, here is what Amorilla at the niftools for has said regarding the new scripts:
You must realize that I'm not modding at all myself for Civ4. However, with enough information I can fix bugs, and I've surely done so in the past for some Civ4 issues as the changelog will reveal. Hence, if you spot problems with blender import/export being discussed at other forums, don't be shy to post a link to those threads here - if we don't know about it then obviously nothing will get fixed either. Of course you're also welcome to post bug reports on the tracker, or here on the forum.

Anyway, the 2.x.x series is based on a completely different library for processing with nif files - it was a huge pain at the start but most things have been resolved by 2.1.x (it took one month with lot's of testing and releasing). Frankly, we haven't had many people reporting on the status of things for Civ4, but as I said a few reports have come in and for some things (and I'd hope for everything some day!) the latest version should definitely go better than the old 1.5.7 version.
He is very willing to help out on this issue, so if anyone can come up with anything, please join the discussion here so that we can use the new scripts without problems. The both of us have been trying things out, but we are sort of drawing blanks right now.

Please help out if you have anything to add! :D

I collected all of the parts and everything for Hitler. I threw them together (really quickly) to give a general idea as to what he is going to look like. I have attached an image showing, in general, what is going on so far.

I have to make the following changes;

1) Resize the hair so it fits his head.

2) Change the shape of his head, particularly the jawline, so its less chiseled (did I spell that right?) and fix his cleft chin.

3) Add an armband.

4) Retexture everything.

And that's pretty much it. It shouldn't really take that long. I initially planned on releasing him with the rest of the LHs I am working on for my mod. But since there has been such a demand for a new Hitler LH (especially recently for some reason) I'll release him as soon as I am finished. I'd like some ideas for a new bg though, there is nothing wrong with the old Hitler BGs, but I figure since its a new LH it might as well use a new bg as well. I am using Alexander as a base.

Here is a bit of a better indicator for you. There is still a lot of work to be done on this LH, but I think so far its on the right track. I just wanted to get this up, its basically based on the one el hidalgo put up a while back. I am just starting from scratch to make sure it works. I am going to do A LOT of touch-ups on this LH, so this is not really what it will appear like, just a little preview. I hope you guys like it so far.
