The Capo's LH Gallery and Self-Help Thread!

flaming  i think it looked better before.

Yeah, he looked like something out of rainbow brite or my little pony or whatever. Well I retextured him, and for some reason I was inclined to stick to the purple/blue color-scheme from Civ Gold's Mindaugas (even though it really has no historical basis) and this is what I would up with. The flag I am using for Lithuania is purple as well, if that helps at all. I hope you like this version better because I am not doing anymore versions! I am FINISHED with this stupid leaderhead. Finally.

EDIT: I'm not sure if I mentioned this, and I am too lazy to check, but I put some of the LHs from my European module packs on the first page to view. I'll update it again with Mindaugas, Yaroslav and Dusan when I'm finished with them. I am not putting the Collins LH I put together because I just put the Collins suit from C. Roland on CfKane's Jack Ryan and reskinned it. So I won't take credit for that, but if you want the LH, it will be available in the Irish module.

Mindaugas looks unique! Very good! Too bad I don't need it (I already have too much civs and I'm saving room for Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan maybe one day), but those who do get a great custom LeaderHead. Looking forward to Yaroslav the Wise! Who will be the base for him?

Patience; I might start on him tonight.

I am very patient! I really think you should take your time and do something really cool.

Well I already have a general idea as to what I am going to do for Yaroslav. But the reason I made so many LHs so quickly is because I am putting out a European module pack.

This is the Dusan that I made for my Serbian module (I used Ekmek's putin with the original skin, I hope he doesn't mind, I just thought the nose and eyes fit Dusan well). I think it looks good because he was a very large man and he looks really large in these screens. I think I'm going to give him a different mustache and different hair, but this is generally what he will look like, I haven't done any changes to the material properties yet. Any thoughts?

He certainly looks large.

I know Igor was interested in this (I think it was Igor at least), so I took an image of some of the parts I plan on using for Yaroslav. I'll give him sleeves too but I haven't decided which type, but this is basically what he will look like, at least model-wise.

Looks impressing...

Man I just kept going and going and all of the sudden Yaroslav was born! I just need to skin him. I am going to make his skin lighter and maybe make him look older. Make his hair and beard grey. Probably make the fur around his cap a little lighter (although I may just leave it brown). And I don't know what color scheme to go with. I was thinking Powder Blue and Gold to match Ukraine's flag, but in a picture I have of him its more green red and white. What do you guys think I should do?

EDIT: I'm going to make the background the St. Sophia Cathedral in Kiev. I prefer interior backgrounds, but if I go with an exterior shot of the cathedral its green, white and gold. So take that into consideration when making texturing suggestions.

First, Dusan: I really like him. Other than some hair-color-matching issues, a weird gloss on his beard, and the clasp shadow on his shoulder, he's a great piece of work. The use of the Putin face is especially a fine choice, and I love the way you put together a unique crown.

Second, Yaroslav: Even better than Dusan. The hat is probably my favorite part, and could be reused in multiple contexts. (I'm especially thinking of it as a possible Inuit headdress.) The combination of robe pieces in also striking, and I like the use of Ekmek's Attila beard (though there appears to be some clipping with it against the robe).

Third, the other leaders on your first page: Christian IV, Kekkonen, Dufour, and Stambolov still look great. As always, there are some parts that could use a nicer texturing job, but texture artists always seem easier to find than solid modelers, so I wouldn't worry too much about it. I'm eagerly anticipating your module to see these folk in glorious 3-D.

A few responses to Vrenir...

Yeah, if you notice the post I didn't edit the material properties, which explains the glossy look. I think I'm going to alter his hair and mustache before the final version. I am also going to add a clasp, I just have to put a Serbian logo on it and figure out which one to use, although I'll probably go with Justinian's.

As for Yaroslav; first don't worry about that as the Inuit head-dress, I am going to make an inuit leader soon (I plan on eventually making an Inuit module) and I have a different idea for the head-dress which I think you'll like more, but will be similar to this but bigger/better. There is actually no clipping on the beard, the angle just kind of makes it look that way. I didn't use Ekmek's Attila beard, I used Charlemagne's beard, it will look a little different in-game. But there is definitely no clipping, I checked for that. My main issue right now is to colorize the texture so it looks more Ukrainian/Kievan Rus-ish.

Yeah, I am not sure what exactly to do here. These modules are taking a bit longer to finish than I thought, but that is because I want them to be as perfect as I can get them. Keep in mind all of the civs have flavored units, and considering there are 14 different European civs that required a lot of work for a guy who, until this point, had no experience with making units. A few things I'll probably do is replace Kekkonen's lenses with something a bit more transparent. I might fix Stambolov's tie issue, but at this point I am kind of leaning towards doing an initial release (becuase a few people are waiting on these modules, and the flavored units that go with them, and I had a few requests for the civs in them) and then go back and update individual leaderheads as I make them. I'm not sure yet what I am going to do. If you go to my mod's thread you'll see a list of things I still have to do, and the list is rather long (although everything is pretty simple) so I haven't yet decided on the release.

But did you have any suggestions as to the color scheme I should use for Yaroslav?

I went ahead and looked at Yaroslav in game. Obviously I have some work to do still, but I just wanted to try and texture it and see how it looked, and I think it turned out pretty well. There are a few things I have to fix, like the eyes, the beard, and the cape but it came out pretty good and I'm generally happy with it. If anyone has better ideas for the texturing let me know.

I'll probably change the background, I'm not sure yet.

Well, if you haven't seen this pic, maybe it can also help you:

Overall, he looks really promising!

use some nonshader files and then adjust the hue and contrast for color changes.

Oh yeah, I'm doing the final edits on my modules and I forgot to change Kekkonen's greeting. He is based on Churchill so he removes a hat which isn't there, then appears, then gets removed. How do I alter this again?
