Adler,
we will probably release the Super Game version but w/ a disclaimer; ie beware! long turn times ahead!
Folks, I have been hammering away at the huge map for a couple weeks now.
Playing WP at medium aggression, and I think Demi-god level.
Just to give people some perspective on the length of turn times, I am running on an IBM laptop with a 1.6 Ghz processor and 1 gig of mem.
Turn times start out at 90-120 seconds in 1950, but quickly ramp up.
By late 64, I was waiting 77 minutes between turns. Keep in mind, at that point, I am running with a little under 500 units, and the US is running with a little over 600. From checking with some of the other civ's with a little espionage, I am guestimating there are close to 3500 units running, floating, or flying around. The turn times are as far as I can see directly related to the quantity of units in the game.
What I find interesting, is that even with all those units, it is very difficult for any civ to launch a prolonged war. Due to the size of the map, and the AI's ability to know exactly your soft spot, you need a lot of units to protect your territory, if you are a large civ.
Anyway, the huge map is immense, and very rewarding to play, but requires a masssive processor, tons of memory, infinite patience, and something else for you do to between turns.
I am including a couple screen shots to give you some perpsective.
But I think El Justo's idea of breaking this game into decades is a real stroke of genius. That will make it most playable for almost all people.
