The Conquests

Wonderful update! What happens if you kill the swordsman holding their relic? Do you get the relic yourself?

Either that, or the swordsman drops it and I have to pick it up.

If you are going to go after the Burgunidan Relic, go straight for Venice. In my France game I thought it was in Aix-la-Chappelle, so I ended up having to destroy half their empire before I found their relic.

I did the same thing in a game as England. Of course, by that time, I already had more than 10000 VP and 2 Relics, so I just decided to kill them and be done with it.

This time, I won't repeat that mistake. Besides, Germany already captured Aix-La-Chapelle anyway.

Can we get a victory screen pic? Just wanna see how close anyone is to winning.

Sure:

But those are a bit out of date, since I've played up to 1251. This is what those graphs and victory screen look like now:

In case you can't tell from that, I've destroyed France and taken the relic. I also did some other stuff, watched a few wars take place, and saw several civs get utterly destroyed. Now, problem is, I'm at a loss for what to do next: I found out by looking at the F4 screen after picking the relic up that the relic isn't shown as captured or lost by anyone while picked up. This presents a problem: Logically, I should go after Germany or Burgundy next and take theirs, but I don't know if either of them still even have their relic. Germany lost theirs to Turkey a while ago, if you remember, and with my new knowledge, might not have actually gotten it back. As to Burgundy, they've been utterly destroyed by Germany, mostly, and lost Venice- to the Bulgarians. So, again, I'm completely unsure where their relic actually is. They also only have 1 King left, and they're bound to die soon anyway. That leaves England, who probably still has theirs, but, given my lack of ships, getting it from them will be pretty difficult, if I can even find it. France moved theirs around a lot, and it was in Angers when I captured it.

I could also just grab the one I have and send a bunch of Ansar Warriors at Jerusalem at this point- I'd probably get at least enough VP's to stay ahead of Turkey and the Byzantines for the rest of the game, and could easily get more by fighting Germany and Burgundy anyway.

Interesting thing: I just checked the Views of this thread, and it now has a couple hundred more than Terrain-Unwise Romans, which makes my two stories ranked #16 and #17 in all-time views for Civ 3 stories, assuming you don't count the two Celtic Peacekeeper threads as separate stories, and also don't count the "Funniest things the computer has said" thread, which isn't a story at all. :p

What I've found is that it's usually as tough to take Jerusalem as to capture a relic, so I'd recommend cashing in on the relic you have now, and if you can get more, all the better. The other relics don't do much good without Jerusalem, after all. I'd recommend bringing some pikemen, too, otherwise your landing party will probably be half-slaughtered upon disembarkment. The Ansars probably still will be quarter-slaughtered by assassins, but at least the pikes can absorb the other Abbasid troops. If the Byzantines are still fighting the Abbasids, that would help a lot.

I only have 1 Galley right now, so I was thinking it would just be faster to send them there by land, especially with Ansars having 3 moves and roads for most of the way. Maybe send the Ansars by land, and the Pikemen/Assassins by Galleys.

An Army can carry a relic, and gives you extra movement to get there faster.

No. It would still take forever to get to Jerusalem by land even with Ansars. Build up your navy, mate. It's far quicker. If you divide your force by land and sea transport your galleys will be waiting for a long time.

That might be true, but on the other hand, there are roads most of the way there, so all I need are a couple of ROP's.

Either way you're going to have to build up your navy to transport the pikemen. Why don't you just build enough to transport the whole Army. It would be simpler.

IIRC, in this scenario, galleys can carry 4 units. I'd build about 8 and send a big group to take and hold Jerusalem. Overland has some chokes such as Constantinople that require a trip into Asia to get past.

I'd forgotten that! Well that settles it then!:)

Yes, and Ansars have 3 movement (the armies have 4), meaning that if nothing gets in their way and they can easily get past Constantinople (there is a land bridge there), I can get them to Jerusalem slightly faster than I can get there with Galleys, at least with some ROP's. Add to that that I'll have to spend time building the Galleys anyway... :p

On the other hand, if I go with Galleys, I can get everyone there at the same time, and it's still much faster to build them than to send my one-move units on the roads from Spain to Jerusalem. I also won't have to spend money getting ROP's or building an embassy in the Bulgarian capital. Plus, I don't really have enough Ansar Warriors outside of the armies to do much fighting anyway, and I'll want to leave a few here in case one of my neighbors decides to fight me while my entire army is going to Jerusalem.

I think Galleys would be a better choice, just so you can get them all at the same time and have a more powerful and unified stack.

Hey people actually agree with me: WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE!:crazyeye::lol:

I just finished a game of this scenario. I played as Norway, and used my Berserks to their advantage. Basically, I realized there was no way for me to win without war, so I just turned every city to either longships or berserks, and crushed the Danes, Germans, Polish, Magyars, and French. Ran out of time, but had 2300 more victory points than the Abbasids, so I won. Here's some screenshots of the demographics and the victory points graph.

Is this dead?

No, I just either keep forgetting to update or not being able to due to busy-ness, internet hiccups, or my mom using the computer I play the game on.

I'll update eventually, I promise.
