Prince
Hello everyone,
My unexperience with civ4 doesn't put me in a position to make the right choise in a crucial moment in one of my games; Is there anyone who wants to help me and tell me what he would do in my place?
Civilization4 version: Warlords v2.08
Civilization: Ottomans
Leader: Mehmed II (Expansive, Organized)
Difficulty: Prince
Number of opponents: 17
World: Huge
Game speed: Normal
Startin era: Ancient
Year :1802 AD
Last techs: Military tradition (Cavalry); Rifling (Rifleman); Astronomy (Galleon, Frigate); Chemistry (Grenadier)
Civics: Representation, Vassalage, Caste system, Mercantilism, Pacifism
Rank:
Score: 1st (1690 pts.; the second has 1611 pts., the third 1523);
Culture: 1st (more of the double of the second!)
Power: 6th
Other infos:
Founder of Judaism and Islam; 8 opponents on my continent, 7 are Jewish like me, 1 (Korea) is Buddhist. Other opponents on other continents are not important in this situation. All these 7 Jewish civs are "friendly" or "pleased"; Korea is furious but is my vassal. Russia is vassal of Aztecs.
Borders:
ocean in east and south-west; Russians in north-west and south-south-east ; Japanese in north-east (near Russia) and east; English in east-south-east (near Russia and Japan); I conquered two cities of Korea in extreme east of the continent; my culture garantees me no territory loss and a slow expansion at other border opponents' expense; open borders with all these civilizations except for Japanese.
Situation:
Montezuma (Aggr., Spir.) of Aztecs (in north of north-western russian cities) and his vassal Peter (Phil., Exp.) of Russians declare war to Victoria (Fin., Imp.) of England (in east of south easten russians cities). English cities are besieged by aztec-russian
)) armies and after a few turns England is losing the war (and some of its cities); Victoria contacts me and ask me to help her: in change she will give me her loyalty as a vassal (and "Military Tradition" tech).
And this is the dilemma: Must I accept or not?
If I don't accept: Aztec-russians need many turns to conquer all the english cities or to force Victoria to a capitolation but at the end of the war Montezuma will be the most powerful leader of the continent instead of me, and this is not acceptable; besides i shall lost a chance to increase my predominance on the continent (and the entire world): if i win the war, i not only expand my territory (good for my expansive trait) but i can put aztecs and russians under my rule as vassals.
If I accept: the war will be very difficult to win: Aztecs are very strong: they have more units than me and Russians can be dangerous too. My allies are not strong: Korea, after a war against me and other civs, has only one city and a couple of obsolete units; England has lost many units and its power is rapidly falling down. The position on the map is problematic too: I am sorrounded by aztec-russians in north (three russians cities and the aztec territory) and south (two russian cities and many aztec and russian units in the english territory). My pacifist religious civic don't allow to build a large number of units even if my economy is strong. At last, my reputation with the other civilizations will be compromited if i shall declare war against their friends and mine.
Both of the options are in line with my standard behaviour in civilization games, and i don't know what is the best solutions in terms of strategy dynamics: Is a good idea begin a dangerous war when the benefits, in case of victory, are like the same aforesaid? Or is preferable to have a neutral attitude (when a war would be TOO dangerous) and to see other civs increase their power? I like more the idea to start the war but the decision is very very difficult.
Thank you for your answers and your time!
Here is my saved game; next turn Victoria will contact Ottomans..
