The Word is funny most of the time, although sometime it seems disorganized and he kind of screws it up every now and then...

On a personal level, Stewart vs. Colbert, Jon wins. He's simply funnier, and Colbert can only do so much with his persona.

On the satire level, that is reporting things which need to be reported but the media isn't doing it's job, TDS does it more often and it's funnier. Some of Stewart's takedowns (of the idiotic talking-head media, of Michael Brown, on the WMD story, etc) have been historic.

Finally, The Daily Show has correspondents, and variety is always good.

Now on the other side:

Colbert has The Word, which is the funniest segment of either show since Colbert stopped doing This Week In God.

Colbert is a better interviewer by far.

Samantha Bee and the Poll Smoking guy are not very good. The guy they brought on to replace Colbert as the senior expert guy (John Hodgeman?) is good but simply not as funny as Colbert was in that role. Colbert was the funniest correspondent on the show, so that has to give his new program points.

The Daily Show correspondent segments are sometimes simply not funny, especially when they look at weird and crazy things which are not really news items.

By contrast, Better Know a District is consistently hilarious.

In the end... though I like Stewart far better than Colbert... I gotta give the win to the Colbert Report. If you gave me two random clips from TDS and TCR, I would watch Colbert. If you gave me two random clips of Stewart alone and Colbert alone, I would watch Stewart every time.

Then of course there is the 433-part series Better Know a District. :crazyeye:

that reminds me, I missed what happened to CA's district. I know it's dead to him, but I don't know why :crazyeye:

what happened?

Well it was originally a 435-part series, but he put California's 50th District on the Dead to Me list after "his "friend" Randy "Duke" Cunningham, the 50th's Representative, pled guilty to receiving over $2 million in bribes and resigned his seat". Additionally, he retired Texas's 22nd District after Tom DeLay left Congress.

Ya, mini-KISS was awesome. I loved it when he started crying after learning that one of them didn't actually play their instrumenets.

I can honestly I've never seen more than clips of The Daily Show while actually watching other shows. Fox News sometimes shows amusing portions for whatever reason. I've never heard of The Colbert Report, though I suppose he's the same fellow the thread was about who lampooned Bush recently?

Yep, that was him.

I personally prefer Daily Show. Steven's approch just wears down for me after a while. He plays the role a bit too well, and often ends up coming off as serious when I know he's just joking.

Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn was better than both. There's something about a group of five middle aged and bitter second rate comics discussing the issues of the day that makes me laugh harder than John Stewart making the same jokes over and over again. Colbert is funny now but eventually I'm sure it'll get old.

actually, he took it even further a couple of weeks ago. California's 50th district is not on his "dead to me" list, but rather they "never existed" to him. he had the district sent out to sea on the big board and had it explode in the Pacific ocean. that was classic!

The Colbert Report is good, but it gets a little repetitive. I prefer the Daily Show, with the variety and I think John Stewart is funnier. I would prefer Colbert on the Daily Show. Most of the time the other reporters aren't that funny, except for the guy that did the mini-Kiss report. I like it when he comes on.

Yeah, John Hodgemen replaced Colbert.
