The Death Of Democracy?

Actually, Detroit (and a few other smaller cities in Michigan) HAVE been experimenting with programs like this, at least with specific public programs, like education or utilities. Michigan's new Gov has had legislation approved to set up emergency fiscal councils.

Central Falls has been in the news a few times over the last year and a half over it's inability to get the books in order (most famously, their high school fired every single employee in a labor dispute). It's important to remember that cities exist at the pleasure of the state, according to the Supreme Court. While actions like this suck (and are thankfully rare), it isn't illegal.

Central Falls should prob not be a city anyway, like Lucy said.

Then why didn't Rhode Island go that route instead of suspending democracy? Sure, Central Falls would probably like to stay it's own city, but I'm sure they would accept being lumped in with another local government a lot more than being placed under a dictator.
