Yes, that's basically what I did. Had mercantilism and skyscrapers early, although no Big Ben (I usually get it when going commerce, but couldn't fit it in the BO this time). Was enough, however, to buy 5 Labs at plastics.

I took out extensive loans leading up to labs, so when spaceship factories rolled around, I just renewed them as needed. Had pretty good GPT by that time anyway. Couldn't get any Nuclear Plants this time, though, due to lack of uranium--Casimir took out the CS's that had it :( Had one Solar Plant.

Yep, 1500 a part. After Apollo, I switched all my cities to working mines, staffed factories/workshops, etc. 5-year plan helped a lot. With Hubble and SS Factories, I think my parts took around 11-12 turns in most cities. One city was a little slow, around 14-15 turns, but I timed this to finish with the Hubble city's part (finished Hubble about 3 turns after Apollo). Nuclear plants could have shaved a few extra turns off.

    Peaceful DV T236

    Spoiler :

3 city NC a bit late around T90. I had to take 2 extra policies before rationalism since there were many barbarians to kill that generated extra culture. No early game wonders. Sistine was the 1st one I got. Did not get PT either. Tried Macchu but it was gone the turn I started it.

FPT was very low and I did not get even a single GP. I managed to buy 1 monastery I think and 1 research lab.

Not a single war with AI except 2 worker steals from Indonesia and China.

Gold was a problem initially since cities were growing fast and I had to buy many lux and a few CSs. Later on it was sorted out (I also settled a 1 pop city north on the coast to sell it to China for like 50GPT and get crab for WLTKD) and after winning WF it was a straight path to the Globalization and DV.

Policies: Full Trad, Rationalism, Commerce x1, Patronage x4.
    Ideology: Freedom x3
    Religion: Pantheon 10% growth

I expected a little bit better result but this lost of LToP by one turn really hurt

However I think that this game show that usually fifth city and ToA are unnecessary. I have cities with similar population and bpt like Acken and with LToP I would finished below 210T.

I won't make a long post of this one, the Germany game had more interesting stuff to share.
    Spoiler :

    SV turn 279
As always when i go this way (which i consider the relatively safe way for me on Deity), i've played my Science Turtle slowly but regularly with very few wars (i DoWed China late around T60 to "recruit" some workers and "relocate" some trade goods) but quickly made peace and stayed peaceful and friendly with everyone until Ideology.
Could have saved a few turns at the end but i was distracted by a a double DoW from Wu and Gaja. I had no fear as my Jaguar mobile infanteries were eating their GW infanteries alive but i forgot to buy the last part for several turns :hammer2:
Better FPT (only had shrines/temples and monasteries as Gaja only had those and nobody else cared to spread to my lands till modern :gripe:) would have saved maybe a dozen turns or so but even this way i couldn't hope to go below T260ish
    Spoiler :

Casimir has been a big warmonger and managed to annoy Ahmed enough to get Dowed by him in the late game. Warsow was changing hands twice a turn at some point :crazyeye:
Wu mostly attacked Pacal but for a change he was not totally wiped out of the planet before the end.
Gaja have also been a warmonger, but he was really bad as you can see from the minimap.
My 6th city on the minimap below Sofia is an ex Chinesse ex Polish city i couldn't raze before the end.

I probably wouldn't be happy for anything except GS in science game.

What was the reason behind use GE for BB - it's late game wonder and require commerce so very easy to get not mention it's not essential for anything?

    Spoiler :
most peaceful game ever ,I was going to try warmongering so I opened with honor and tradition
had to bribe a bit ar the beginning to get China of my back, also I did not like Poland close to me so I bribe b around and he finally died mid game
I was too late for a religion and 10 tech behind in science and had to buy a CS to get enough faith for a GE to help with Hubbard telescope .That's when i finally caught up with Marocco and the Dutch in science.

At that point I bulbeb 4 GS finish rationalism got a few more nd a lot of trade agreement

Might I recommend, Tarafran, that if you want to open Honor and benefit from any war-based UA, such as Monty's, that you don't bribe but fight! China isn't dangerous until CKN's at ca. T80ish. You could have used Jaguars and Archers to kill all her units before then, bankrupt her economy, and set her up for a fall, long-term. Just my 2Kc.

My second DCL and second victory so I'm pretty glad :D. This time a little bit better then the last and on the first try as well.

Poland was a little over the top in this game :D

My tourism was terrible and Freedom was my people's favored ideology choice, so I switched my ideology and lost 2 tenets, putting me back down to 6. But that is enough to be able to get the tier 3 Freedom tenet that allows you to buy spaceship parts with gold, of which I had about 15000. The Foreign Legions I upgraded to mech infantry, so I actually had a (small) military when Casamir declared war on me.

Pretty good for me, but it seems like Turn 184 plastics with only one GS bulb used + Leaning Tower should net a faster victory. I must still be doing something obviously wrong in the end-game, just not sure what it is.

    Spoiler :

Really wanted the Cerro de Potosi, but settled for the elbow room only Antwerp location instead.

    2 worker steal from China
    2 worker steal from Indonesia

    Wonders:

    Oracle
    Leaning Tower
    Porcelain Tower
    Big Ben
    Hubble
    Statue Of Liberty

    The good:

    4 city tradition

Finally got a city state snowball effect going. It started a little late (around 100) but really paid off when I could sell luxuries for gold.

Scholasticism + Lots of city states allies really pays off

    Turn 98 Education
Turn 184 plastics with money for all 4 labs.

    Tons of culture - 26,000!

1400+ bpt for 4 cities

Bank of William ;) He had 671 gpt after I took out loans!

    The bad:

Still seem to be dropping science during great scientist bulbs. I know they wanted to fix a bug, but why can't the system just do the right thing? :crazyeye: Don't throw my science away, please! :goodjob:

Waited too long to buy food tiles for Tlatelolco

No religion - only 1 faith GS

Not a lot to get excited about. Went with only 3 cities and peaceful game. Got Plastics on T190, but 3 cities isn't enough for a fast finish from there. Maintained DoF's with Netherlands, Morocco and Poland for RA's. Full Tradition, Commerce opener, full Rationalism, 6 in Freedom. Ended up buying 3 spaceship parts.

    2nd attempt at Deity
    Spoiler :
I lost my first attempt at a DCL game, on the Spain map, which was my first Deity attempt. So I decided I would try the previous Aztec map. I’d read the thread a while ago, which theoretically would give me an unfair advantage, but the reality is I don’t remember a thing, so I am going in pretty much blind. I will try and turtle for a science victory.

I settle in place. Like the mountain and river, less thrilled about jungle. Its theoretically powerful, so maybe I’ll actually be able to utilize it.

Build Jags instead of scouts. We’ll see where that takes us.

Pop a few ruins. I love culture ruins, maybe only second to faith ruins. I think its because I have a hard time multiplying faith and culture. Gold I get loads of, pop I can grow.

Meet Wu. I suspect I will be fighting her at some point in the future. That future is now, as I grab a worker from Shanghai (shanghaied!). Peace comes soon, though.

Old faithful is like my least favorite natural wonder. Its… yawn inducing (in the game. I rather like Yellowstone, in real life. I think I ate bison for a whole week. I like bison.) Get me a faith wonder, I resent building faith buildings.

Barbarians are everywhere. I want to settle Southeast on a hill in range of truffles (popular among pigs and French people) and dye and cotton, but there is a camp that keeps building stuff. The Jags are not quite up to going toe to toe with the axe throwers. I’ll need to kill them. The culture for kills is pretty helpful. I rather like the Aztec abilities.

Instead of tussling with the barbarians in the southeast, I am going to settle in the desert to the South. I’ll try and get Petra there, maybe.

I settle in the desert on turn 35. Problem, a barb camp spawned nearby guarded by axe guy, and I am having a devil of a time repelling them, and I have to get the area ready for wonder production by mining everywhere. Need archers to deal with this situation.

Turn 46 I settle my third city on the truffles/cotton site. Probably will be the front line for a future war with China. I’ll get around to fortifying some time.

I’ve only managed to steal one worker from my worker farm. I am going to have to build workers. I was trying to grab stuff from Antwerp, but honestly all the places look kind of iffy in terms of terrain. I might not have an eye for this yet.

Lose Petra on turn 84, with three turns left. I’m not surprised, I know Indonesia has a desert start, and get desert folklore. Oh well, the city should be fine.
I hit education at 116, so I am lagging here.

Turn 133, I built my HC in my desert expo. About three turns later I realize that the observatory mountains and the jungle is in my capital. Its like I don’t know how to play at all. Following the loss of Petra and this giant error, I contemplate quitting. This type of failure is aesthetically displeasing. I resign myself to having lost another game, but I play on.

I Dof William, and he seems friendly enough. He then settles a bunch of cities right next to mine, but its all on crappy land. Still, if he attacks I am in trouble. Everyone is taking turns attacking Poland. I decide to bandwagon in spirit, and denounce him. He declares war on me two turns later, along with the Maya. That was unexpected. Hopefully my mouth isn’t writing checks that my body can’t cash. Still, he is fighting everyone, so I am not that worried. China is still my primary concern.

The mayans settle a city to the south of the desert. Uh oh. Still, they are fighting the Netherlands, so I give the open borders to William, and he sends an army through my lands and takes the city. The Poland Maya war against me simply won’t end, but there isn’t much too it. A musketman appears, pillages my cotton, and then decides the best way to continue the attack is to take a boat. An ancient caravel that I had lying around sends him to the bottom. A polish fleet shows up, and it could be trouble. I think some ships can capture cities. Battleship bombards my swordsman, killing him. I pay China to attack Poland. Two turns later, Poland offers peace, and the fleet sails away. Fine.

Netherlands are fighting China, which is ideal. They are generally the front runners, and I try to keep that going.

Ideologies appear. I’m the third to ideologies (no coal), and for a science victory that isn’t good. Still, I’m encouraged by Netherlands taking Freedom. I decide I will take that, and try and get culturally dominated by him. I open borders. My culture is always weak, and I end up with negative from China, who went order. I am the first influenced culture, by China. Great. Things are not looking up in the tech race at this time.

I pop my scientists for satellite, and complete Apollo and Hubble on turn 266. I have built big ben, and plan on space procurement. My culture is weak, and won’t have that for a while. That doesn’t matter, because my science is weak, too, and its going to take a while to get the necessary techs. I plan on a mix of hard building a few and buying a few. Every hard built part is on a railway leading to my capital, under heavy guard by military units. I am paranoid that the computer will sense I am about to win if I actually attach the units, so they idle outside. Hopefully, they aren’t killed by a sudden attack.

Poland and Maya declare war again. A few turns later, Poland dies as Arabia takes all his cities.

The sciencing and building take forever. It will be turn 313 before I finally get particle physics. I only have faith to purchase one GS. My science is stuck around 760, so each bulb is pretty weak. Williams has built all the parts except one. There is definitely room for failure, but it doesn’t look like he quite has the tech for that last piece.

I finally get particle physics, with all my cities building science. ISS is proposed, but too late, suckers! I launch on 314. Flawless strategy, indeed.

Deity seems pretty forgiving for science victories. I played MUCH worse then my first attempt, on a harder map, and still got the win. I’m still bad at culture and science simultaneously, and faith generation was abysmal. Lots of stuff to work on. My cities are only in the low thirties and high twenties, after 300+ turns. I think in general I have happiness problems from around turn 100 to 250. There are way too many times I am preventing growth because my happiness is at 0. I need to figure that out so I can keep the growth up.

Other points, looking at my notes: I like Aztecs. The lake thing seems somewhat useful (I feel I often run into lakes, and if I don't, fine) and the culture for killing units is nice. If I hadn't focused on a science victory, honor seems like it would be really cool.

In general, I was terrified of combat at Deity level, but I've managed to stay out of wars to a greater extent than I though possible. I love bribing civs to attack each other, and I think that may be helping. The enemies that leak through I've been able to deal with. I also put a huge emphasis on building gold buildings, so I generally have upgraded units, though only a handful. I think that helps. Anyway, I'm curious as to what would happen if I was in a real throwdown. I imagine it wouldn't look pretty for me.

Nice one. I'm happy for your win, and you're really not doing too much wrong. It's true it's not that fast a time, but for this early in your Deity career, not bad at all. To get the BPT up you just need bigger cities, although I had huge cities and only finished 7 turns before you, so I must have done something really wrong. :S

Welcome to the DCL. I hope you'll play the other games and post your write-ups :)

Thank you, and I think I will try some of the other maps. I have tried to learn about how to play from all these threads, the DCLs in particular. So I've been reading exclusively deity strategies while playing Immortal, so the transition might be smoother than I anticipated. Its too early for me to make any broad claims, but Deity strategies do seem tuned to that level, in that I've been able to implement them better on Deity than at immortal. And I really want to get my win times down, but this is about as fast as I've done on Immortal anyway. Haven't had a sub 300 non-domination victory yet (on any level, as far as I can recall).

I only played Vanilla, stopped, bought the complete edition in dec and started playing again. This was my first deity game since vanilla.

    Spoiler :

Went Honor, three cities NC around t80, build a forth city, started war on Netherlands around t110 with X-bows, took The Hague and Groningen. Made peace. Trained troops on Bogota till Artillery. I never build many culture buildings, was relying on warring almost all game to get culture. Build a 5th city to get my hands on coal. Started commerce.

Meanwhile Poland eliminated Marokko, and Pacal, and was killing China.

Babylon went autocracy, Poland order. I took autocracy as well. Since Babylon had the most World Congress votes. Next WC we both proposed Autocracy as World Idiology.

With Artillery I declared war on China around t210 as well, took two cities, Poland took the rest.

Indonesia and Netherland took freedom and were gathering troops at the border. My happiness was below 20 at this point and Groningen was about to convert and its like 7 turns will the WC vote. I declared war on Indonesia, three turns later Netherland DOWed me. I gained enough culture to get second level autocracy Militarism, which solved the happiness issue just one tuirn away from Groningen converting. With WC and autocracy passing happiness was no issue anymore at all. Finished commerce.

After taking all but one city from Indonesia, I made peace with them, took two cities + Amsterdam from Netherland and got a 75 gpt + 1 city peace deal from Netherlands. Poland was warring Babylon meanwhile, I moved my troops to Polands border and Babylon's capital was under attack by Poland. Poland and I had a DoF and he had no troops at all at the border.
I DOW on Poland with my troops coming from the north quickly advancing. Got Clausewitz's Legacy and Poland finally took Babylon, but I took Warsaw two turns later. Then finally his troops arrived, but they are no match at this point and I took the remaining capitals a few turns later without much resistance. Taking Marakech and Babylon both in t324.
