The desert island game

You mention laptop, which means trackpad and no mouse. I would have gone with Minecraft or something, maybe, or San Andreas. But without a mouse, playing FPS games is an absolute slog and robs me of any enjoyment.

So I guess I'd go with... Civilization 5?
I assumed that a wired mouse came along with the deal.

So did I. I actually don't know anything about laptops, it just seemed to make more sense as a salvage item. But I actually just think of them as a computer you can carry that sucks to try to maintain or upgrade.

Anyway, time for my answer I guess.

I would have answered this question "X3, hands down," if it had been asked any time in the past ten years. However, right now I think No Man's Sky is a serious contender. I could imagine playing out X3 if I was stuck for more than a decade or so. NMS wouldn't be as good for the first several years, but if I were really stuck for life it is genuinely endless.

beat me to it, I was thinking of "Desert Island Escape"

My first thought along the irony line was Tropico. It is conceivable that sitting all alone on an island guiding little virtual people as they develop their virtual island might be that "fate worse than death" that I mentioned. Being able to build a (virtual) airport with a petty click of the mouse would be particularly painful.

Dwarf fortress is a great idea.

I'd prolly take PhotoShop or the Elder Scrolls Construction Kit over any game. most of the games I come up in my head are infinitely better than the real ones anyway :D

maybe the new version of Daggerfall that just came out would be a nice choice, lots of random elements there

agreed, never played it either. seems like the kinda game to spend your lifetime on.

with all the spicy things available to you you choose.. playboy.

that's like someone asking you "hey boy what you want for your last meal?" and you respond "a dry toast and some room-temperature milk please. low fat, too."

maybe if I was born in the 1960s or something I'd consider it, but nah, not really

You would probably injure yourself with 10 years worth of Playboy.

Some kind of exercise game like Dance Dance Revolution but with focus on flexibility and strength as well. Staying fit would be my top priority in such an environment.

If I also had access to my modding tools and a compiler on said laptop, I would play Civ4: BTS.

If not, maybe Stellaris or something like that.

Can whip up a BAT mod in a pinch I take it ! :D

Mmhmm. Maybe I'll finally finish BAT 5.0 Of course I'll be the only one playing it.

Kerbal Space Program. Close seconds: Civ 6 or Sword of the Stars.
None of these are my absolute favorite games but they're all top-tier and have the most replay value.

I think surviving the first year will take up almost all your time. Your going to need sufficent supplies for the monson season, living in tropical island is going to be tough
I would prefer porn but if theres only one PC game something like Civ would be ideal with its replayability and ability to make my own mods.

Minecraft or Dwarf Fortress. They're both Turing complete. Maybe Factorio or Rimworld as secondary options.

I've never played any of those, which is some of the appeal, but also limits my ability to choose between them effectively.

Seems like picking a game you've never played is a high risk, low reward approach. Sure, it's new for a little while, and that's great, for that little while. But what are the odds you'll still be entertained when it isn't new any more?
