Here's the situation:

You survive a light plane crash on a desert island, alone. There's plenty of fish, fruit, and fresh water, the climate is tropical comfort, and really other than the stuck on an island alone part things are looking pretty good. From the wreckage the only things you can salvage are a small solar power unit, suitable for keeping a battery charged, and a laptop computer.

Unfortunately, the computer has been stripped down to the bare operating system. Even the cheesy built in utility notepads and such are removed. But, there is a game installed. ONE.

You may be here for months...years...decades. What game do you want? What game would you consider a fate worse than death?

Tropical climate is far from comfortable to me, and I don't eat fish. I guess I lose by default... :p

Now, if it's a cool temperate or moderate near tundra island with migratory sea birds stopping over and nesting, then maybe - just maybe - I'd make it - with warm clothes and a sleeping bag.

Probably some sandbox game that never really ends. Ideally one with a random generator.

Well, it may not be comfortable, but the point is that you aren't going to spend every waking hour keeping a fire burning so you don't freeze to death. And after about three days I expect you'd be eating fish. Maybe five. So there you are...a couple hours a day spent collecting food, some sleep...and...playing what to fill the rest?

I would use that opportunity to become a legendary hermit master of .... TETRIS !!!! :D

Yeah, that seems a good direction. Which one is your preference though?

If you leave it up to me I'll stick you with Minesweeper.

That's...unexpected. :)

Yeah tell me about it - imagine the faces of people who would eventually stumble upon my skeleton lying there with one skeletal hand on the laptop, screen showing an unbelievable, totally amazing killer tetris high score !!! I'd become a gaming legend friend ! :D

Well, without my medication, I'll be pretty much unable to play anything that requires much fine motor skill.

So, uh...Solitaire?

Worse than death ? .... a dating sim or a flash dress up game .... ugh !! Than after the discovery I'd proceed to hit my head with whatever is on hand :hammer2:

But in the event that somehow I was magically cured by the plane crash....am I allowed to bring my music collection? If so, Audiosurf would be a decent choice.

Fine! Age of Empire 2 - the Age of Kings. The Ensemble Studios classic (the original CD-ROM version - which I still have in RL - so I don't need constant Internet access for the Steam version).

A Civilization type game or a grand strategy.

EUIV, Crusader Kings one if the CiVs I own but haven't played. SMAC maybe.

If I had to pick a single game, I'd probably go for something like the latest version of the Sims with all expansions and extra content. I think I'd much prefer something like Microsoft Word, so I could write a journal or keep my thoughts; could I go with something like that instead of a game?

I can't imagine anything being "worse than death" ... I mean, I wouldn't be forced to play it, right? I could just leave my computer turned off ...

You've never enjoyed playing games like Azalea's Dolls?

What a silly question. Civ3, of course ;)
What game would you consider a fate worse than death?
Hmmm...

When I first signed up with GOG, one of the games they offered as a free download (and maybe still do?) was Lure of the Temptress. Out of curiosity as much as anything else, I installed it, played almost all the way through, and then hit (what I later discovered was) a well-documented-but-game-breaking bug not far from the end. That was pretty frustrating (but hey, at least I got my money's worth, right? :yup: )

So I'd say that just about any (adventure) game which has a linear-ish story (and thus little to no replay-value) — but especially one which can't ever be completed/won! — would pretty much fit that bill.

You neglect the extremely important question of whether I'd have mods installed for this game or not.

If yes, then Skyrim obviously. If not, then some Paradox/4x game.

I don't think he mentioned an Internet connection, which I'm pretty sure you need to be able to play Skyrim by the recent years' "piracy protection" mechanisms.
