in my opinion Marlborugh, or anyone with the surname churchill is the greatest british hero. He ran rings round louis XIV forces for years and not too mention Blenheim and all that. Not many ordinary brits no he existed though.
Of course Drake is a British hero, he was the best at what england was good at during the time, piracy. He also helped lay the foundations of the English navy and gave the Spanish an enormous headache at a time, when they were the "superpower" and protected England fro its catholic crusade.
