The Entire Thought Experiment

well, I'd prefer to gift city to lincoln.
does it count as "liberate"?

well, no vassal have it's interest :)

I think liberate is return to former owner.

I'd noticed no vassals and needing milsci for blitz but they're not immediate issues.

Its looking like we'll probably have two wars: first against SB to increase our city count, second against Qin to meet the war variants, probably both wars of annihilation.

We'll get Guangzhou back eventually (or maybe raze it) so I don't think its a major issue but a nuisance variant to be got out of the way.

we can always liberate just before war or during war (just before take back a city).

On 'Return to Sender', the intent of the variant was to return the city to its former owner, so Guangzhou would go to Qin Shi Huang, not Lincoln. I'm sorry if that wasn't clear. In hindsight, 'Liberate' was probably the wrong word to use.

I'm not sure that we especially need to do battle with China again (?). To deal with 'Possession' we could aim to get Boudica to join us in a war against Sitting Bull.

We will need a late-game war if we're going to cover 'Devil's Kiss'.

We have plenty of time to debate later wars. I'm guessing the current delay is that astre and I disagree about liberating Ghuangzhou. I think we should do it now before Qin fills the north and starts getting fussy about which cities he'll accept while astre appears to think there's no rush to meet this variant.

indeed we can liberate a cityduring a war and retake it in a hurry
That's the most harmless thing to do :)

I'm not too fond of liberating a city right now either. Better to do that with an island city or during a (brief pause in a) war.

While I'd rather get it done now its not gamebreaking either way so I'll keep Guangzhou and we can worry about the variant later.

PPPP

research: lib (nat) > music (culture and tradebait) > gunpowder.

Builds:

Uruk: OU
Eridu: HE>units
Kish: Uni>Zig
Lagash: LH>lib
Ur: uni>LH
Nibru; settler(whipt) >settler.
Bad Tibru: lib
Scythian: zig>lib
Harappan: LH >lib
Zimbir: LH>lib
Xian: forge>zig
Nanjing: Jemon
Xhanghai: zig>lib
Beijing: Taj
Hangzhou: zig>NE
Gaungzhou: zig.forge
Sharup: gran>culture
Umma:gran>culture
Bantu: culture

Settle copper island with existing settler.

Grow on builds (whip zigs).

Check for trades (gunpowder, guilds, astronomy).

Hope SB doesn't declare.

ok with the plan but i see a 4th city to found: crab on the same island as macau is free.
please try to catch it if possible.

Thanks for the PPP.

Overall I think it's good. Printing Press rather than Gunpowder so we're not following the AI?

Not sure on the proposed Library in Legash (production focus), and I'm so-so with Lighthouses in cities with no seafood resources but acknowledge that as a Financial leader working coast isn't terrible. I'd lean to getting a Settler or two out of Zimbir (working good tiles) after the Lighthouse maybe rather than Nibru which is still got a lot of growth potential which would be frozen during the Settler builds. As earlier put forward, I'm 'meh' about Beijing and the Taj due to the Great Artist influence, but I'm sensing that I'm alone on that concern. If it gets done this turnset, what's the plan with civics and religion ... I assume Representation / Caste / Pacifism-Judaism?

As per my report from the last turnset, I should have fixed citizen allocation in Hangzhou - please move them off the Workshops.

I suggest Work Boat builds for seafood resources - Bantu's Crabs, and proposed Copper-Fish island's Fish. I assume we've got two cities in mind for the area between Zimbir and Bantu, so a couple more Work Boats needed for those cities. astre's just proposed yet another far-flung, so another Work Boat needed. We also need more Workers.

One of the Farms (if not both if we're happy to have a longer Farm chain) at the top of Nibru's BFC can be cottaged.

Maoi Statues are still available.

I played last night. Pretty much followed the plan except fitting in some settlers and WBs.

1240 Lib>Nat. Beijing starts Taj. Uruk starts OU.

1250. What's this? Abe has nationalism already? !!

1260. Music>PP. Banana to Bod for sheeps.

1270. What's this? Stop trading with our good friend Celt the Bod? No!!

I thought about defying but unhappiness and losing production bonus?

Just in time:

Let's nip in before the ban (nearly everyone hates her).

Which opens up this deal:

1280. PP>gunpowder (not available in trade).

1290. As expected:

1300. As half expected:

zzzz

1330. Get a Great Artist in Beijing. Whip Taj for 6 pop (whip has only become available this turn). Will we get it in time.......

Cities have grown, two more cities have been founded in the north east, we've got a couple of Jewish monasteries, we even have a spare settler. HE is complete, NE remains a work in progress.

SB has been surprisingly quiet.

(Guangzhou's a mess).

Here's the save:

thanks for trying to catch those island cities :)

Will look at the save tonight. It seems like I'm UP, i will propose something quite soon. But if you have idea before that, i take :)

for boudica, she stoped talking because of AP :(

for next set, i propose GP farm theme party:
switching to caste, pacifism, rep and set religion on confu (only common city religion)
and starve eridu, kish and Hagzhou.
last turn of GA, swap to : free religion/slavery

with that, continue "Granary/zigura/lighthouse/forge for everone" program
finish Ox Uni without whipping or with a 2/3 pop whip at worst.
in bejing, build a forbiden palace

btw, i don't get why a jew temple does not give us 2 hammers (in Shangai for exemple). anyone have an explanation?

for
Shock Jockey
Attach a Great General to a Horseback unit that already has the 'Shock' promotion.
does it work with an elephant?
Should we wait to upgrade it to a cuirassier?
Or should i prepare in one city: barack, stable and an horse unit to give him shock ?

will prepare a detailed plan after first discussions

PS: I've just noticed there is a huge amount of sea food in indian primary territory
will try to prepare for war for next set.

Overall I like the plan.

Your call on the religion, but if you wanted to consider Judaism rather than Confucianism I'd not be upset.

I'm mindful of which two National Wonders would suit Beijing best. It could be a production powerhouse, and I think that both Maoi and Ironworks could be contenders there, as well as the proposed Forbidden Palace. Dare I suggest that one of the new cities such as Bantu or Isin could be earmarked for The Forbidden Palace?

While Mining Inc's not going to yield tons of :hammers: (even if we do stop trading away our Copper and capture Native America), I still think that it's worth founding and as such I wouldn't mind our :gp: cities running an Engineer in their specialist mix on the off-chance that we'll pick up a Great Engineer.

"Horseback" was intended to mean a Horse unit. The War Elephant thing occurred to me as well, but nobody until now has raised it! pigswill's got that Horse Archer underway in Eridu for just this purpose I'm guessing.

well, the thing about confu is that eridu is not jewish and will not benefit from pacifism. confu is the only common religion to all 3 cities.
I could eventualy convert to jew as soon as i convert eridu into jew if that suit you.

btw, I'm planning for building GP, but i don't really know how to use them :) . Try to make 3 consecutive GA? we have MoM so that would mean 36 turns !

Eridu has Judaism, but Uruk doesn't - maybe run one of the two Jewish Missionaries under production into our capital when they're done?

Personally I'd hang onto our Great Merchant (Coco Chanel) for Sushi, if we pop a Great Engineer I'd save them for Mining Inc., a Great Scientist could be held for Aluminium Co on the off chance that we don't score Aluminium but I'm OK to merge them into Uruk given how far away Industrialism is, and anything else I'd be happy to earmark for a Golden Age. I'd be prepared to merge our current Great Artist (Mark Twain) into Guangzhou if the roster felt it was important to address the culture in this city, but I'm non-committal on that idea, or trying to hang onto it, or gifting it back to Qin as per pigswill's proposal.

yep seems like i was wrong. was sure eridu was not jew.

well, i'll prepare tonight a proposed plan with jew intead of confu tonight
