The Entire Thought Experiment

Folket,

(a.) Can't change the decision now.

(b.) PPP was up for a day and a half, and the Academy plan was not opposed.

(c.) While not the typical commerce-rich capital we often see, there's still a fair enough commerce haul from the Gold Mine, the trade routes, the Palace, and in time the Silk to warrant the Academy. With Civil Service not far away, we can lift the food haul and I can't see why a few Cottages couldn't go down as well as the proposed Scientists.

I was not opposing an academy. I just wanted to hear the rationale.

Folket,

Oh, righty-o. :)

I admit that holding out for the Philosophy-Taoism bulb did cross my mind, but a need to support our 'core' research from our best city I thought was high priority. As before, I'd like to put down a few cottages that won't interfere with any irrigation chains when our Workers get a chance. There's a Worker south of Uruk that's mining the grassland hill that nearly went to one of the grasslands for a cottage instead. I'm mindful that the capital's BFC has a lot of plains tiles and will therefore benefit from some farms once we get Civil Service.

vranasm,

I'll flesh out my report a bit, but generally I thought that we'd be trying as best we can to 'chase two rabbits' by both peacefully expanding north-east while stockpiling Catapults and other ground-troops for a strike on one of our neighbours when reaching an appropriate level of 'critical mass'.

Yes, I still think we need one city with cottages unless we conquer the Chinese capital soon. It will soon be to late to build cottages.

With space race victory its not too late for cottages.

Yeah, and with Financial we're several turns up on non-Financial leaders in that regard.

I do like Beijing though too. ;)

Beijing looks like a strong GP farm.

looking at the save forming kinda PPP

1) Confu missionary -> travels to Cahokia and spreads religion

2) work boat continues scout mission east

3) Eridu will stay on build catapults mission - I will probably whipe there some since there is not enough good tiles anyway

4) I would settle 1N above the settler current position on the dye (it's coastal, river) -> build monument etc

5) since there is ton of good city spots on the whole peninsula I should get out at least 1 more settler, 2 would be better - I would probably use our capital for it? grow to size 5 and then some settlers?

6) Kish is a puzzle for me, I would probably not whip there and continue with the builds

7) Lagash and ur are not worth commenting for my TS, they are really behind
- actually thinking about it... I would use both cities for building worker? they lack improvements and we need more

____

bottom line... china has elephants, and I really struggle to see why we want to go with cats warfare here seeing at least 5 good coastal city spots in north east (the barb city not counting), we will struggle with settling all the land and making war on china...

Thoughts?

I'm agreeing. Let us get settlers. Spam then. Claim our rightful land. There is plenty of time to make war later. And drop some cottages.

We've got until liberalism to war against China and Real America so no rush. We have to build vultures, we don't have to use them.

You got my Ok. Haven't looked at save, but I really think Uruk needs to stay a decent size and running some specialists. We can't afford to keep whipping it to death.

In terms of settling the north east, I found dot-mapping to be a difficult exercise, so I am happy enough to go with the group's view. Aside from the jungle, my main issue with the Dyes is the lack of productivity beyond the 2:hammers: Cows (no hills, not 'brilliant' whipping) and could see a case to split the Dyes across two cities.

Apologies - but is there a benefit in spreading Confucianism into the Native American capital rather than a junk-ier city?

Not wishing to be disagreeable, but I'd continue to whip the heck out of Eridu and off-set unhappiness with Hereditary Rule. I'd be preparing for war with Sitting Bull before he gets to Feudalism, despite rubbish terrain, Dog Soldiers and Totem Pole Archers. Maybe it's too late, but I suspect that it's only going to get more difficult.

Agree with Workers and Settlers as a general approach. Last turnset we added two of each, and I'd be happy to see more.

SB didn't adopt any religion yet and if we spread him confu he will switch making the diplo situation even easier...
even though one could argue that SB is hated universally anyway (didn't check diplo screen, but he has really high peaceweight so he is generally hated)

dunno...it's my usual strategy of manipulating AI's in game to make different religions blocks so they hate each other easier.... and I didn't found good use (outside of scouting) for the mish anyway.

edit:
why capital? it's biggest city... the more AI have population of religion the more willing they are to stay in it...

it's just safety

and another reason is that I want to see what is in Cahokia before getting rid of the 'scout'

The missionary can alternately come back into our empire and spread Confucianism to save a new city from needing to get culture from elsewhere for a border expansion if you like. Also depends a little on how we feel about maybe adopting Judaism at some point and therefore spreading Confucianism making Jewish spread more difficult.

I see the sense of spreading it into Cahokia, but that said, he could build a Temple or Monastery there as a result, and thereby strengthen his best city.

These are tiny points, I admit. Do as you wish. :)

guys I will have to postpone the TS till saturday/sunday afternoon not sure when I will be able to play fully.

it's end of the school year etc etc... a lot of happening. My kids are going to holidays tomorrow, so I should be able to play afternoon or sunday easily

No prob, V. Kids are always more important.

time to finish some micro...

couple of notes

1) Settler is on way towards the „C“ spot as new city
2) we have some sizable stack in eridu
3) We don't have HBR, but have Ivory
4) i DIDN'T switch into Bureau since it doesn't seem to be worth the 1T anarchy
5) Shaka has HBR, but he's the only one
6) AI's got Monarchy in last 1-2 turns
7)

seems like a good set.
we are 1 vulture from our secondary goal Murder of Crows
We have more and more cities :)

HBR is the way to go, we need phants to attack SB.

we need a GA soon to switch civics bureau + OR + convert to jew. do we try to hunt music after HBR? or just try to pop a GP ?

Am I Up?

Are we planning a token war v SB to fulfil a variant or a serious war of annihilation?
