The Era of Justinian

I dont understand. 5% is a very low chance of dying. So people until they reach the 30 will have no problem of dying.

Perhaps I am in error.

As I understand math, if I have a five percent chance of dying each year,
then I have a (5% * 10 years) fifty percent chance of not seeing my tenth
birthday, and a (5% * 14 years) seventy percent probability of not reaching puberty.

The odds of my not being among the living by my 18th birthday are 90%.

What is the mistake in the above thinking?

Neither him or you are wrong. Odds of a char seeing his 18th b-day are 10%, but your chance to see your next birthday each year is 95%.

You see the first, he sees the second. But you are right.

Kinda like seeing the forest for the trees? :)

Kinda ;)

Corrected the earlier entry.

Old values:

Age_____Annual chance of demise
0-5_____6.7%
6-16____2.4%
17-60___2.3%

New values:

Age_____Annual chance of demise
0-5_____6.7%
6-16____2.4%
17-60___2.2%
61+_____5%

I had a round off error in the 17-60 crowd, and neglected to include a setting for the really OLD folk.:old:

Hey Christos! Just wondering: Mosher appointed my noble self as a general, so is there any way for me to increase my skill level at being a general? Perhaps gold investments in tutors to increase a randomly generated baseline? Of course, that would mean the first dude is luck of the draw, but... I would prefer that to it just being luck of the draw the entire time.

No. You can only increase your skills when you win battles. Just declare war to someone and raid his territories. This is the Medieval Era. There are no such things as reason for a war, UN and Global Peace. Just attack someone and then make peace. Do you remember a year in Byzantiums history that was without wars or revolution? You dont because Byzantium was always at war.

No.

Some nations have more, some have less. I will post them in the stats. But the Superpowers are the Sassanids and the Byzantines. The Sassanids dont have many provinces, but they gain 12 IC from Eastern Iranian provinces that are not shown in the Map.

Thanks for the answers. I still have two of the original questions though.

1. Continuing with the accounting issues, do we have a starting balance to work from?

2. Can we bank surpluses in IC, Manpower and Gold?

:hmm:

1) What do you mean? Are you talking about unhappines.

2) Yes.

1) What do you mean? Are you talking about unhappines.

Actually no, I hadn't thought of 'unhappiness' as a pre-existing condition. But that is a good question.

Do we start with our nation in 'attitude' balance, with equal numbers of happy and unhappy people?

Clarifying my earlier question, do we have a starting balance in the resources of gold, IC, and manpower to use in improving our lands, or are we restricted to what our countries produce in the first turn?

Thanks.

1) You start with 0 Happines and Unhappines.

2) No. You begin with what your nation produces, except for Byzantines and Persians, who start with 1 Cataphract and 1 Legion (Byzantines) and 1 Gond and 1 Cataphract (Persians)

Oh awesome !!
Me wants to join. I wish to be a free willed, Foederati captain, whose services might be "purchased" if one was willing to pay the price and proper place in the court.

Permission to go ahead ?

You have to chose one nation and play as a Noble or as a Ruler. Armenia is not yet taken and it is very adavanced.

Yes. However you could always play a Noble celtic family. You can also take the Germans or the Arabians.

I want to let the other nations know that I have not been ignoring them.
I joined this forum recently, and have not received PM capability yet.
As soon as I do, I will be sure to contact each of you with exciting and
profitable offers. :)
