You may have noticed that we have a new Off Topic setup (no, it's not a joke :p).

Sometime in the future, we're considering rolling the current History into them, although I think we have enough of a history to stand alone if needed. We're currently asking this in S/T and A/E as well.

I'll probably ask to archive this forum (like for the old OT) so that we can more easily find old threads, move the active ones to the FC, and all new history-related threads will be started in either FC or FT (OP will decide).

What do you guys think? As the current frequenters here.

Not a great idea. Unlike A&E or S&T which are effectively withered husks which would be better if rolled into OT simply because they don't have traffic right now, History has a decent volume of threads and decent traffic, but not enough to keep them alive in the midst of a big OT forum.

This. While the WH subforum has seen better days with higher traffic (and high quality posts/house-written articles to boot!), I fear it would be instantly lost in FT, and would gradually fade away even in the less-popular FC now.

I have a feeling history discussion would all but disappear without its own subforum. Maybe "History questions not worth their own thread" would survive, but I don't imagine much regular history discussion would happen otherwise.

Yeah, please don't move WH. Instead of migrating to OT like you hope, I imagine most WH threads would end up migrating to the NES forums instead.

I tend to agree w/ this viewpoint.

Aw, now that I was thinking of posting a new attempt at my history of economics?

Well, I'm not committing on that one. ;) But I'd hate to see WH disappear. It seems to me that keeping it separate makes more sense that the current attempt at splitting OT.At least people posting to WH were not in doubt about which subforum they should use!

I don't think anything would be gained, and possibly there would be loss, from merging this. However you might want to look at what threads in OT might from time to tome actually be a better fit in history and move them. That might get more traffic here.

I'd rather History stay separate as well.

Alright, good enough. I'm also not really in favour but the question needs to be asked. :)

I'll let the mods know.

If WH was merged with OT, I'd leave CFC. This is the only reason I still come here. It may have seen better days, and even I don't get the time to devote to it that I once did - lousy children, ruining my life and killing my hopes and dreams - but it's still a perfectly capable forum in its own right. And I would miss it if it were gone, as I agree with the consensus; history discussion would basically die in OT. Hell, I pay so little attention to the rest of the site that I had no idea anything was happening with OT. It's WH and H&J for me, and the only H&J threads I visit are onces I subscribed to last year, if not earlier.

Please God no! I agree with those who think History would die in OT.

History has a different feel to it than the other subforums, plus it gets enough traffic to warrant it being a separate forum, IMO

So keep that and create an american politics subforum and I'll be happy ;)
I thought OT was an American politics sub-forum :p. At least, that's what it feels like whenever an election happens there.

You know, even with all that in mind, this place is inactive as all hell.

That's part of it's charm, though. Threads don't get buried under pages of other threads, and you can usually expect an answer.

Sure, but it used to be active enough for visiting here to be interesting on a daily basis, without being spammy enough that you'd miss a discussion or not get an answer.
