The Gang of Four - FRFR Redux

Pre-turn – Some units haven’t been moved. Move those.

See we’re going to need a warrior to escort a settler with these barbs around. I think I send one settler pair towards the hill, and the second can start south along the coast. I’d like to upgrade our boats so that they can carry a settler pair, but we don’t have a harbor.

Change Copenhagen from a warrior to a harbor.

X-man is the only civ ahead of us. He has Philosophy and wants an arm and a leg for it.

We do know all the civs, so that should help.

IBT – Trondheim: Settler=> Harbor (5)

1. 1075 BC -

IBT – Bergen: Settler=>Warrior
Babs are building the Oracle. [party]

2. 1050 BC – Since we lost our scientist with the settler build in Bergen, I bump science to 10%.
X-man now has CoL too. He won’t sell it.
Portugal now has Philosophy. Henry will sell it to us for 151G. X-man is at 153G.
I’d like to get more cash to get a two-fer, but everyone is pretty cash poor. Let’s wait a turn or two and see what develops.

IBT – X-man demands 30G. How are you going to get here to attack us? Stick it in your ear. The dope declares war on us.

3. 1025 BC -

IBT – Our two settler pairs are attacked and we get two elite warriors to escort our settlers.

4. 1000 BC – Cleo now has Polytheism. India has Math.
Time for a three-fer.
Buy Math from Gandhi for Writing, HBR & 98G.
Sell Math to Henry for Philosophy & 31G
Get Polytheism & 11G from Cleo for MM, Math & Philosophy.
Sell Gandhi Philosophy for 98G.

So for three techs, we get three more techs & 42G.

Good thing we aren’t competing in a QSC. Three cities, two settlers, one wonder, 8 citizens, 5 warriors and four curraghs. The only good thing is that we are a tech leader with only three required techs from the MA.

5. 975 BC – Found Reykjavik on the hill by the wheat. Start a harbor. I think we can build about three tiles apart.
IBT – Trondheim: Harbor=>Settler
Bergen: Warrior=> Archer

6. 950 BC – Start the warrior across to meet the settler.
Found Oslo on the west coast three south of Bergen. Start harbor.
We might lose a curragh to a barb galley.

IBT – Our curragh survives. Egyptians are building the oracle. The barbs come over and plant themselves on our wheat.

7. 925 BC -
8. 900 BC – Decide that the barbs have got to get off our wheat tile. Attack the warrior with our MP warrior in Reykjavik.
9. 875 BC – Kill the barb horse on our wheat. So now we can work it for the extra food.
10. 850 BC -

After action report: Curraghs are headed back home to be upgraded and help with settling. There is one just outside of Trondheim to be upgraded next turn.

I have been building a harbor as the first build in a city. Since it is our lifeline to the rest of the civ, it will be critical.

We are the tech leader. I wouldn’t worry about the Great Library, a waste of shields. Although the Lighthouse might be a good idea. That will give us communication across a sea tile and allow us to trade with everyone. Plus it will allow the horses to be shipped home. Right now we can trade with: China and Babylon. The Lighthouse will give us everyone, well as long as the dopes build a harbor. The Persians are the only ones building the lighthouse right now. We could probably do it in Bergen. Or Trondheim.

X-man is being a s***. He still won’t talk. We are actually in good shape. If we ever decide to self-research we will be able to crank once we have libraries and universities. I’m thinking this variant isn’t extremely hard. Just very hard. Hopefully I won’t have to eat those words. :cringe:

I’ve attached a screenshot to the next post. I would go for the red dot with the galley next. That will get us horses. The rest are judgment calls.

Looking good bugsy! Especially on delaying the trade to get a 3 fer, excellent move!

I do believe that gorm-o-rama has his turn in the barrel. :D

I don't know if gorm is going to grab this. Stapel, why don't you jump in when you get the chance.

I have just finished DI1, and have GK1 in the shuffle. It's the weekend so I can probably play both, would you like to wait? if not I can grab it after you, Stapel.

go for it gorm! I thought you might have left for Africa already.

Tis the problem with running SGs with the same people over & over............. especially since we tend to be in the same order every time.

Preturn:
Everything looks good. Looks like we will be expanding like crazy.

I don't think we can get any wonder without any mining squares or at least any prebuild. Sorry Budsy, but I don't think we can get Great Lighthouse.

825:
Trondheim makes settler, starts war.
Bergen makes archer, starts war.

Chinese started GP.
Bergen started Temple of Artemis.

Upgraded our curragh to a galley to carry our settler. Loaded up our settler and war.

Moving another curragh back to Trondheim.

800:
Our 1st settler+war pair heading for the iron resource.

775:
Upgraded our 2nd galley.
Trondheim makes war, starts war.

750:

730:
Trondheim makes war, starts settler.

710:

690:

670:
MM Bergen to make settler and grow in 1.

650:
Bergen makes settler, starts war.

630:
The Dutch are building Great Lighthouse.
Dutch has completed The Pyramids.

Peace with Babylon gets ours COL+282 for Maths+Poly.

Stockholm founded on iron resource, started a harbor.

Summary
(1) We have a galley loaded with a war waiting for the settler next turn in Trondheim to take the horse resource.

(2) a settler is moving towards Budsy's yellow dot to settle.

(3) We are still tech leaders (along with Babylon) and are 29 turns from Literature.

Next better player.

The save

Got it.

Great planning. I can play 3 SGs tomorrow. Right now I will play settlers of Catan with some friends. Not as good as civ, but the RL aspect offers something extra.

Playing!

Pre Turn 630 BC: looks ok. Checked all trade opportunities. Nothing to earn here. I move out our galley, to save one movement point. Lux to zero :) . We are researching literature (for what reason???? ) at slow speed. I don’t see the point in it. If I am not mistaken, we have been doing so for 21 turns now. Even at this point, switching to the republic seems to be a fair option: 34 turns at 100% science and –2 gpt. Or do we want money?

I could use some help on what is the idea behind it.

@Stapel The research was started by previous players so I assumed we were aimming for something (I had been away awhile so I wasn't certain). I agree we should swap to Republic. Also you might want to whip the harbor at our fur lux city.

If literature had 29 turns left that means it was probably started 11 turns ago which was on my watch (unless this is one of the 50 turn research games :hmm: ) I probably thought we should get literature for the Library, but we really don't need that with our trading. So switching to republic is a good call.

And if it was started 50 turns ago, then it was mine. I think that was probably the case & I went for it incase we wanted to try for the GL, and so we could build libraries down the road.

Either way I'm glad you switched.

All techs are 50 turns max in c3c. But 21 turns ago, we didn't have philo / CoL.

In c3c, you cannot trade maps before ?navigation? and cannot trade contacts after printing press. Therefor, we will be able to trade techs until long after education.

I will be away on a business trip in Nigeria for 4weeks. Once In Singapore, I will have internet access and will continue playing.

All the best everyone, sorry....RL takes over.

Turn 1; 610 BC; Trondheim: settlers => rax. Curraghs go home. We pretty much know the world. Kill a barb horse near Reykjavik. Extra science in Reykjavik, to prevent riot. Sell HBR to Egypt for 64 gold. Sell HBR to Babs for 50 gold. Sell alphabet to Chinese for 52 gold.
Turn 2; 590 BC; Birka founded. MM Reykjavik: Harbour in 1.
IT Babs demand Code of Laws  Guess what: war happiness!
Turn 3; 570 BC; Found a town on the horsies.
IT: A Chinese settler comes close. That sucks a bit. We will have war with the Chinese at some time I guess.
Turn 4; 550 BC;
Turn 5; 530 BC;
Turn 6; 510 BC; Trondheim builds rax => Archer.
IT: Chinese settle south of Trondheim.
Turn 7; 490 BC; A warrior pops 50 gold :D near Horse Hus.
Turn 8; 470 BC; Bergen harbour => rax. Upgrade curragh in Bergen. MM Reykjavik. Growth in 1 anyway.
Turn 9; 450 BC; Copenhagen harbour => temple (to use the whale).
Turn 10; 430 BC; Oslo is MM-ed okay, harbour in 1.

Production in Reykjavik is debatable. On settler now, but rax seems fine too!
