The new Chancellor of Germany, Joseph II, takes to the palace throne as a dark cloud hangs over the land.

Germany is a great power, to be sure, but mired in internal problems and threatened from abroad by the likes of Egypt and Greece. The broad expanse of our empire works against itself. Many races of conquered people exist in our lands at present, and still resent us.

And a thorn in our side, called England, encourages this dissent within our cities.

The new chancellor tours the empire, from Berlins towering spires to the humid jungles and arid deserts of Russia. Changes are ordered, and an infectuous confidence begins to spred in his wake.

Preparations for war are begun. All will be German, or dead.

War with England

In lightning strikes the English Empire fell, extinguished but for a single town on the Isle of Caimbridge.

Germany captured over two dozen workers who now "toil" in our mines and fields. The prize, London, is ours to do with as we will.

Domesticaly speaking, we are becoming a wealthy nation. A great stock exchange hums with activity in Berlin and our first factory will soon be completed there as well. The "Hero of London", Horsa, also resides in our capitol, waiting to serve the next Chancellor.

An aging Chancellor now steps down from the Iron Throne, and appoints his successor, who must finish the war by annihilating England once and for all. Only then will our formerly English citizens accept that they are now Germans forever and ever.

And bring a lasting peace to the land of Germany.

OK, donsig, here it is!:D

- New Great Leader in Berlin, Horsa. You should use him to build a wonder, I recomend waiting for the Theory of Evolution. Thats two free advances we desperately need. I started researching medicine to get us to scientific method.

-Military Academy under way in Frankfurt. Workers are mining the hills to add production to the city, you should mine more hills after and rail road them too. Frankfurt will be our key to world domination in the future, lets beef it up.

-Once Frankfurt is finished, we can field three new armies and meet the requirement for the Pentagon. These "required" three armies could be disbanded after the Pentagon is started, so just throw old units into them, if possible.

-I tried to concentrate our workers efforts around our two capitol cities and the "circle" of cities around them. The outlying areas will never produce well, so I focused on the former.

- Greece and Egypt seem to REALLY dislike us. Watch out for naval forces sniffing around our coast near the former Greek cities. They havent done anything yet, but I put some strong units in Reading. Just in case.

-Cavalry will be obsolete soon. I didnt build any more, just riflemen. Theres three elite cav arriving at Berlin for future use, or defense.

-WE NOW HAVE 1000 GOLD! [dance] If you maitain that as a MINIMUM balance, we get 50 free gold each turn. Thanks to Wall Street. So go easy on the spending. Everything over the 1000 gold barrier is fair game though.

- Lastly, there is HUGE, HUGE disorder from the war-weariness, even in our German cities. Frankfurt and Konigsberg had disorder, and most of the English cities too. Theres entertainers in half of our cities right now because of this problem. Its hurting our science and production.

End it. Make peace or kill Caimbridge. I recomend kill. I left you a galeon with troops and a frigate to bombard. Its your choice, but remember what the Scicilian Mafia says about not finishing your enemies...

Once the war is done, you will have to put people back to work in the cities. Sorry, I know its tedious, but it was the only way to make ends meet at the time, so to speak.

Dont rush build, let cities starve if need be. We are doing very well domesticaly right now, and some population decreases in the corrupt cities is maybe a good thing for now. Later on when Berlin and St. Petersburg "circles" are finished, we can fix up the rest of the place.

Go forth, and bring glory to our mighty empire!

That was awesome joespaniel!:goodjob:

It would have taken me forever to fight the English. My round will be spent in the continuing effort to consolidate our domestic position while gearing up for the next phase of our glorious conquests!

BUT: It's 7 pm Friday evening here - a time I normally do not work BUT it's near the end of finals time so I AM working till 3 AM. (That's 8 more hours! The GOOD NEWS is that when I get home at 3:30 AM I can't go to sleep because I must take my wife to work at 6 AM. So, I will have a couple hours then to play my turns!:D

PS - I will probably make peace with Elizabeth now that she is properly confined to her island...

Great work, joe!:goodjob: Up next, donsig! But of course you know that ... :)

You know, I thought that if you attk across a river (i.e. when you use your cavalry to attk London), the defenders on the other side of the river are gonna get 50% bonus in def ..... That's why I left all the cavalry in Konigsburg so that it can make a sweep into York, then turn north on the other side of the river and take London. Personally, I prefer a single strong swift attk rather than a broad whole-front invasion .....

Also I did leave most of our swordsmen in the south too, so shld sort of match the English numbers ..... :)

As for war-weariness, joe, if you think yours is bad, you shld try at my turn .... Why do you think I wrap up all our wars so fast? ;)

I guess we might as well finish off the English. :D Go, donsig!

Speaking of Interim leaders, isnt there one for Afganistan right now?
Work? I didn't see you do that much. :D J/k.

The interim leader for Afghanistan is Karzal or something (?) but let's leave that to OT. We want to rule the world over here. :)

Yes, rivers add a defense bonus. I did what you envisioned. I used some forces to keep them from coming into Germany via London, but attacked from their side of the river. I almost think capitol cities get some kind of bonus too somehow. They never fall easily.

Thank you.:D I used them all.

Yeah, when your heartland cities go into civil disorder it kind of sucks. I urge donsig to end the war VERY fast. It was getting rediculous.

I guess we might as well finish off the English. :D Go, donsig! [/B]

I agree. If we let them live, it could be a pain in the @$$ down the road. I would finish them now, but its donsig's call.

I have to admit, I get a cruel sense of pleasure seeing them on their little island out there.

Nice to be back, btw. I missed our teutonic romps through foreign countries. :D

I think the defenders in the capital do have an additional def bonus, now that I think about it. But it doesn't matter now, does it? :D

Maybe we shld. It'll be so fun. Anytime we feel a little muscular or testy, we can loom over the British Isles and blackmail them for all their gold.

Nice to be back, btw. I missed our teutonic romps through foreign countries. :D
All good things have to end someday ..... :( From now on, probably a long boring industrial and economic development phase. Maybe we shld studying our next victim. :D Just to pass the time. ;)

Holy #@$#@ We're huge!!!! Can you say tech up and ICBM the rest of teh world into submission?

:goodjob:!!!

OK.:D

Japan is the weakest of the three. If we get a toe-hold on that continent, say, at Kyoto...

I wouldnt even attempt that for awhile. We have no navy to speak of yet. We need some ironclads to project force into the oceans.

Once we have transports full of panzers and artillery, and aircraft carriers to support, then we should visit ole' Tokagawa.

I also think we should raze most cities we capture on the new continent. Then we wont have to deal with all the BS. We'll just have a couple of base cities to mass troops, heal units, base aircraft...etc.

Ive never played a game of civ3 long enough to get panzers and bombers yet, so Im looking forward to this.

One thing for sure: we should go for a domination victory.:hammer:

I really think it would be a good idea to completely rid ourselves of the English nusiance. Eventually they will try to get a city on the mainland. But, I'm not in charge right now. So....

In addition, I think we really need to build Universal Sufferage. This will help with future war weariness. (We ARE going to war again, aren't we? ;) ) Unless the millitaristic Germans are going to wait for Japan or Greece to declare war on us. ;)

I was also wondering about mobilizing the Reich for our next war. I have never really used this in other games I've played, so I don't truly know it's effectivness or lack therof. But, it seems to me being able to produce only military units and military improvements with an extra shield on each tile that was making one before is pretty damn good. Yes, I realise we can't make anything else, but if we build up the other improvements first, the others wouldn't stand a chance against ALL our cities pumping out Panzers (for you joe ;) ) and transports to get them there...

Just my thoughts...or reasoning...or something.

Mike, you're ready to come back and join us? If not, then when you're ready, tell us and then I'll put you into the roster. ;)

1590 AD: The Second German Republic declares Peace!

1595: A plebiscite in Eretria goes in favor of Greece. Chancellor Donsig obtains the right to station cavalry forces near Eretria and the peace continues.

1600: German exports increase, balance of payments favors Germany.

1605: Egypt & Japan agree to MPP, Greece declares war on Egypt, Japan declares war on Greece. German sailors witness Egyptian warriors attacking Greek hoplites on the island of Thessalonika.

1615: The German navy reports that the Greek city of Heraklia is burned by Japanese forces.

1620: Frankfurt & Nottingham RR complete. Berlin & Liepzig RR complete.

1640: Streets of Berlin lit at night thanks to German scientists.

1645: Moscow, St. Pete & Odessa RR complete.

1650: Japanese envoy offers Germany an alliance against Greece. Peace continues.

1655: England & Egypt sign MPP. (Somewhere a Sicilian laughs at Donsig.) England also declares war on Greece. German settlers found Silk City, the first German settlement on a far off continent.

1660: Pollution near Berlin! Coal city founded near Silk City in what was once China. German doctors go abroad bringing more gold and luxuries back to Germany. But are they merely doctors?

The Military Academy will be done in 2 turns. Berlin is working on Universal Suffrage as are two other civs. I spent 440 gold on the Berlin factory so we could try to get Universal Suffrage - it is still 16 turns away. (I did not let the treasury dip below 1000 in doing so.:) ) We still have our great leader in Berlin and we'll have Scientific method in two turns for ToE.

Our workers did nothing but build railroads. German citizens can now travel from Hannover to London or Odessa to Kiev by rail.

I started factories, libraries, markets, etc.

Our little navy is sailing around in the north. I did not upgrade or increase the size of our army at all. The defenses of our home continent are thinnner now that some troops have been shipped overseas.

Thanks to Wall Street and our luxury exports we are netting 166 gold/turn. Aside from the factory in Berlin I invested heavily in our Chinese foothold. I built a harbor in Silk City right away and both Silk City and Coal City will have libraries next turn. (That's almost 1000 gold invested in those two cities. I will be quite embarrassed, not to mention pissed, if they are culturally absorbed by Egypt or Japan!)

Keep an eye on the trade agreement. I sold things for as much gold/turn as I could but some went cheap. If they don't automatically expire we have to track them so we can renegotiate ASAP.

i.Psychosis brings up a good point(s).

Should we go to a Democracy now and set our science rate sky-high? I think its imperative.

Try to keep science set at 80% if possible, without deficit spending ofcourse.

Libraries, Universities and Marketplaces... oh my.

As for Mobilization, it helps build military units and military improvements, but you cant build anything else until peace is signed. So it is limiting. I urge we only mobilize if massively attacked on our own continent.

I have a intuition that no one will come over to our continent for a long time. Sounds like they will fight each other first. The useless cities can build infantry and artillery for the productive ones.

Once we start the "Final War", we can switch to Communism and forget about war-weariness for good.

It will be panzerific!:tank:

Nice work, donsig.

Now we have a toe-hold on their continent! And a new luxury! Good job! Donsig gets a gold star!

Just a thought: If we are selling Luxuries to our enemies, they can increase their science rate because they dont have to spend on happiness. I dont know if thats the case per se, but its a possibility.

I would sell to Japan because they are weak and behind us in tech. But not Egypt! Egypt is even with us, and we need to slow her down as much as possible.

Glad to hear Egypt is tied up in a big war, it will slow down her production of improvements. Maybe the Greeks will rough the B!tch up a little too.:D

I sold to the highest bidder and did make a deal or two with Cleo.:( BUT - we are the Germans and we fear no one's science, nicht war?:D

Democracy is good, especially if we can keep up with the Joneses luxury wise. Once there we may not have to switch to communism just to fight the rest of the world. I guess Universal Suffrage will tip the scales here: will we get it or will they get it? I was so tempted to use the leader but saved it for ToE.

Whether we change to demo or stay repub it is good to have a nice cash flow for buying improvements...

I think Alex is getting pounded. He's facing Egypt, Japan AND the (once) mighty English. BTW, we had so many extra luxuries I couldn't sell that I gave some to England. All they have is some galleys floating around and they are building spearmen to attack Greece... (More Sicilian laughter in background.)
