The Great War

Hello, I played a few turns up to 1916 and here are what I noticed...

1- There is a spice ressource in the sea near Alexandry
2- There should be air carrier in the tech tree, they start to be build durring ww1
3- Zepplin are also missing.
4- Didnt saw any rail gun, but I play as Brit so far. I will try Greman next.
5- Sonar wasnt very good at the start of ww1 (the hydrophones). After some Canadian research the British came with the sonar (look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sonar). In civ2 and maybe 3 the earlier destroyers didnt detect sub, research was in order to get better destroyers.

6- flame trowers where an important weapon durring ww1.

I really like the map amd the game is fast and fun.

Will post anything new that come to mind.

When I select a group of units there is a graphical bug, the farm, mines and other map developments turn dark and the game may ctd when i hit next turn.
 
Well, I did get Civ IV normal to work after messing around with some firewalls or whatever. It's a really good mod, I've played about halfway into 1916.

In response to this, only the Germans have Zeppelins, everyone else has dirigibles. I've seen rail guns from each power, and as I'm playing the Germans, I do have flamethrowers.

However, the tech tree stops after I get tanks. Is this supposed to happen? I'm pretty sure I saw more techs in the Civilopedia than I've researched.
 
Maybe you could use a reskinned Road for the trenches. I don't know if you can use a route's art for an improvement though.

I am playing as Germany, the beginning is very nice, the fight against France and Russia (Belgium is not worth mentioning).

It realy felt like a war.

Now, the downturn is: Since i defeated the french and russian main force, nothing realy threatens me and since hours and hours and hours, i just keep conquering one city after the other, on both sides. I am now, in October 1915 and the whole of France (excluding corsica and the african colonies) most parts of russia (including helsinki, st petersburg, moskau, kiev, odessa), the south of england (the 3 most south cities) and most of italy, appart from Sicily is occupied by me, my Austro hungarian allies occupied the whole of serbia, one city in italy, one in northern france and a few in russia. The only one struggling are the ottmans, whom i helped with zeppelin air support.

Bulgaria still did not join the war, as well as Rumania.

Russia keeps offering me peace (trying to end world war 1), which would make no sense, since the goals of the scenario are to conquer.

When i found out that i can produce merchant ships, (yes I was just producing dreadnoughts to gain naval superiority and destroy the russian, british and french fleet) i kept producing them and so my already very fast research went faster, and since august 1915 there is no new technology left to research.

Basically, I stopped playing now, because it is getting too boring.

Ok, i must admit i did choose a very low difficult, to try it out, but now it is getting a bit boring.

I like the Unique Units, The german tanks are a bit big, if you could scale them down.

German infantry is the most powerful in the game and since developing advanced infantry long long before the entente, I overrun them quiet easily with artillery and air bombardment support.

I know it is not your fault, but the map is a bit too big and it can get boring easily, I remember playing the original with the ottoman empire, I think i conquered half of europe... and stopped because of boredom.

But still, one of the main issues i have with the mod is: Why is Bulgaria not joining in?

I don't know why Bulgaria is not joining in, according to the Python code they should be. I have decided to not mess with this mod, because I began work on another mod based off a scenario for GEM. I plan on transferring the units and techs from this into that one. In this mod the ai is kind of backwards, and I had a terrible time trying to get events to work right. It does have some balance issues later on in the game. The team system seems to hurt it, and the ai does not use the merchant ships. This really needs to be updated to civ 4 BTS 3.19. I can not get Germany to upgrade their aircraft either, it's damn frustrating. I think that if I could find someone who is proficient in Python for the vanilla version of civ 4, some proper changes could be made to help the game be more fun, and help it to work properly.

Not sure the python code is old, and it says Italy should enter later than that but does not. I thought the last time I tried they did enter in April, 1915. I just got frustrated with this mod, it's old and nothing works right. It's fun to a point but I need someone with coding experience to help. If anyone would like to rework the scenario, and add events or make the ones there work, and basically make things work right, I would be much appreciated. I would love Bulgaria to enter the war too.
 
I can see your point nokmirt, you have done a nice job on this one, now let it be as it is and concentrate on 1860AD, if you build it up nicely then you can make a First World War Scenario based on the 1860AD mod and possibly get a scripter with python experience to script events for it.

My mods map is old from civ 4 vanilla. We would need a new scenario map BTS 3.19 compatible. You also would probably want to use RevDCM.

There is a map you could use Smitty, the Europe map(I think you have mentioned it yourself, if I remember correctly) that comes with Beyond the Sword. I had my Napoleon mod(which is a warlords mod, I wanted to upgrade to 3.19 and RevDCM) all set to go on this one, and I was going to add cities to it for the Great War as well. I had computer problems and lost the map scenario, and it had all the cities and civs. We easily could have changed it to match up for world war one. We could do it again, and we could use the Great War mod as a base for city names, and city placement. Once you start adding cities it goes along pretty steadily. Then it's just adding resources, mines, railroads, units, etc.

All we need is some good maps of europe in 1914, and then you can choose the city names you want to use and where you would like them placed.

Do you know anyone that is interested and doing some city placement on a map, maybe just the basics to start with? I am doing another project, but I could try to help when I can.

I wanted to ask you about the United States, in mine I was going to try to have Python events bring them into the war. I don't know Python, so I was going to try to find someone that could write the programming for me. The other thing I was thinking for the Great War mod, was to have a map with part of North America, and Europe/Russia, and the Atlantic between to better simulate the submarine war, and add the U.S. and Canada. How were you going to deal with the U.S.? Let me know how yoiu want to proceed, and we can start from there. A map should be started on. I will ask my buddy BenGee maybe he would like to help.

I'm having some problems with terrain graphics...

After a few battles, the terrain will get darker. Then after a few more battles I would get completely blackened terrain. My question is: What do I do to fix this?

Are you sure it is just the game? I had similar trouble, but finaly it was my graphics card.

Save and restart and it goes away. No one knows why that happens, sometimes you play and it never occurs. I was dealing with that before I even added anything to the mod, never could find out why.

That happens to me as well. Desktop, laptop, low graphics, high graphics, good card, bad card, big game, little game, it just happens sometimes. Like others have said, the best way to get rid of it is save and reload the game, everything will be back to normal... until the next time it happens.
 
Just redownloaded and I see a slight problem...
All of the units have the "red ball" effect and some don't work at all.



EDIT: Just took a look at the Art stuff and... well... there isn't any.
EDIT: (again) I found a art .zip that fixed most of them, but the Machinegunners and Aircraft still don't work...

Something your doing there is not working to well. I have not even looked at that mod in months, but the whole mod is in the download. I will be adding it to my new 1861 AD mod, but it will be taking awhile. I have alot of playtesting to do to even get me to 1895 AD, let alone WWI.

As far as The Great War mod, all of the artwork and units are there, I never used Pakbuild, the file was never large enough for that. Try redownloading the mod, and see what happens.
 
you've really got your hands full with all these historical scenario's nokmirt. I like it ;) Perhaps once ACW is in a playable state I can lend more time helping with some mods like yours. We're not too far, I just finished merging RevDCM earlier today (it took me 3 tries:lol:, but the 3rd try only took like 2 hours), including all the python, so maybe I could help you on some of those fronts as well.
