The Hall of Players

All articles from Noble Zarkon's links added in the writeup thread. Will have to work over it in time again, but at least the information is fully compiled (except Kaitzilla G-116 Culture through Espionage) .

I'm having the "Civilization blues" currently. I got fancy catapults, I got 20+ nice cities, I got a 30+ unit army, and I neither want to keep conquering currently, nor research all the way to Education with needing to micro all of my cities, even though they're really strong this time.

Yesterday I played 15T and it took 15h of hardcore gaming. I need someone to build me up again :x .

If it helps (probably doesn't), I feel the same. Am in the late stage of the game, but all the micro and keeping in control of all the idiocy the governor does in 80+ cities is a bit of a nightmare. Each turn easily takes an hour, and most of it isn't fun. Basically I just look forward to finishing the game, and either stop playing, or stop playing with such ludicrously time consuming settings.

@Pangaea, fixing the spies assigned by the governor is quite fast if you go through the domestic advisor. On the City Details tab you can see the specialists in each city and by clicking the city icon to the far left you can get straight to the city screen when you see a nasty spy. Pressing esc in the city screen will take you back to the advisor.

Maybe you already do it like this, but mentioning it just in case there's someone reading this that didn't know about it. :) I know I found out very late that it could be done this way.

If you want to check the tiles worked in each city every turn, this won't help you much, though...

You guys are doing great, it's awesome to see a bunch of top players attack a record many thought unbeatable but at the same time be so generous with helping others out.

I'm not surprised you are a bit fatigued, it seems very gruelling - make sure you get some fresh air and breaks from the game! Maybe have another easier game on the go at the same time??

I do something similar, and use that F1 screen a great deal, but also use the log and check out cities that have grown, to make sure the governor doesn't use a bad tile or specialist. Pretty time consuming.

One could probably use the buttons at the bottom of that F1 screen, to hire and fire specialists, but I do prefer to do it in the city screen itself so I see what tiles are worked too.

Tried to use the automation earlier btw, with clicking the various buttons, but only in rare cases did it result in firing the spies, and often the result was to work a pile of specialists instead of just a couple and then working tiles. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a good way to solve this.

Would be great with some type of priority tool for specialists. Let's say you prioritise 1. GS, 2 GE, 3 GM. When you run out of GS spots, the governor will start hiring GEs, then GMs. If you click on a tile in the city screen, thus removing one specialist, it will remove one from the bottom prioritised specialist type.

It's without doubt the most tiresome part of the late game. Probably half my playtime, at least, is wasted on fixing idiocy the governor does when cities grow.

Fresh air? What is this thing you speak of? A new invention from our top scientists?

*checks if the game has hired spies ahead of scientists*

Just finished and published the newest CIV Illustrated guide. Finishing it alone already took 3h, not to mention all the days that went into writing it. I originally wanted to play a little more of the current Gauntlet, but now I know if I'm not too tired. Have to stand up early tomorrow, got an appointment at 14.00 'o clock at my University ^^ .

That sounds great, and congrats with the (likely) new #1 :)

Still struggling with a certain Gauntlet game here, although I had some ideas about playing for the normal HoF slots before starting this game, or maybe the G-Minor, as that looked interesting too. With so many eyes on the Major, maybe I could have got a decent finish there

Just submitted a game on Noble / Marathon that should get a #1 slot (and not Time or Score which is all I have at the moment!!), aided by capturing 2 enemy capitals by Turn 10!! Had "No City Razing" on thankfully :-)

I'll refer to this post when the next crybaby comes that says "Noble is so difficult wuaeh" ^^ .

Could you please disable that spam by your phone? It's in settings somewhere.

I struggled a lot early too. One of my first games was a sour loss on Earth 18, at probably a lower level than Noble. Got a few cities peacefully, before eventually warring and grabbing more, then I got gang-banged by most neighbours. Another attempt I lost space to a huge China I think. This game is difficult when you don't know what you're doing, as there are so many buildings and units, and the tech tree is big, long and confusing. "What to take next? This might be useful..." But when staying in this forum and learning a lot, Noble becomes very easy, so you can almost beat it blindfolded

Now now, Seranoob....we all struggled with the game at some point. If you knew how badly I played this game before I found this forum. You know..things like "Oh neat, this Great Engineer will insta-complete stuff for me...let me use it on a barracks"

I didn't knew what the Pyramids do, because I didn't know what a civic is, and even though I knew that Axes and Praets are powerful, I didn't know how to get there (because I usually needed to research Mining before and I never looked at the tech-tree but only at the pop-up window that proposes two different choices and a bunch of techs that I didn't know either) . Still, I beat Noble because I knew how to properly reload everytime something bad happens ^^ .

Btw.: I'm currently playing a CIV-game with 0 Golds / Gems / Silvers / Furs in the capital, so 0 :commerce: . Found BW in a hut in T1 and settled on a Marble hill, so I thought I'd keep playing. Crazy stuff, most AIs have Alpha and I haven't even something to trade. Not as difficult as expected though, I'm gonna get foreign TRs in 1 or 2 turns and then it's GG. Mids are also next door, just need to finish the war with Louis, from whom I stole 5 Workers with a WM2 Axe ^^ . A year ago, I'd probably struggled a lot more, but since knowing that one can create greater sums of :gold: via whip-OF + Forests, makes the game really easy.

Are you sure you know how to get Trades Routes there, Sera? :mischief:
